Guest FatherSatan
Hey guys, I'm looking at buying a 1984 Subaru RX Turbo Coupe, and I realised it doesn't have an intercooler, and an intercooler would be nessecery for the kind of mods I would want to carry out, Has anyone had any experience Intercooling a Non-Intercooled Engine, I'm wondering around about how much it would cost to take it to a shop with an intercooler under my arm and say "put this on my engine mate". Cheap/Expensive? Google didn't help at all Thanks guys
zep
You'd have to buy the intercooler, and depending on the kind of piping you want, then I would say $400 -$1500 for the piping. Bends and length and diameter change how much it's gonna cost ya too. Best to ring a few exhaust shops and ask them.
drftnmaz
yea isn't easy on subaru's... if anything get a water o air setup off a newer one and plumb it up urself, or to mount a i/c and cut the bonnet up
fuel
Problem is on those leones, the spare wheel is in the way. The turbo outlet pipe and the intake plenum pipe are closish together, towards the front, so a front mount intercooler is possible.
durty
yeah, mate has one. wtf were they thinking putting the spare wheel there??? just seems silly to me
Guest FatherSatan
Who needs a spare wheel? I dont. Yeah its pretty fucked though aye, u think i'd have room if i took it out along with al the shit that holds it in place? But basically what you guys are saying is it can be done, if theres enough room? Pic of engine bay:
CaMpylobacter
hit it with a nos foger system or yeah, rs legacy water/air - less lag etc than a front mount
drftnmaz
looks like theres enough room in there for a top mount off a sti
Guest FatherSatan
looks like theres enough room in there for a top mount off a sti Exactly what I was wanting to hear
drftnmaz
does your one have a factory scoop on the bonnet? btw: the turbos on those are SH!T. i tryed putttin one on my mazda, wat a waste, needless to say the next day i checked it in the bin.... so i'm 99% sure a vf10 off a later model sub will fit on with minor mods
Guest FatherSatan
Nah it doesnt have a bonnet scoop aye, i was probably gonna go for a TD04 after i got an STi intercooler fitted.
drftnmaz
yea from memory the tdo4 will fit in the housing... i'd do it before the intercooler tho just incase the piping changes slightly
