danger
Yeah I know this is in the wrong section but I'm fixing the timing on my mates capri tomorrow and I've gotta find out what to set it to. Its got a Cortina Pinto and my mate doesnt have a clue. Help would be nice thanks
RT
just connect up the timing gun to no1 lead and make sure the timing marks are in line. If they are not even close then you will have to get number 1 piston to TDC and pop the cap off the diz. Whereever the rota is pointing make that number 1 and go from there. Make sure you get the leads in the correct firing order of course.. 1342.. or is it 1432 lol! get a manual!

esky boi
Yep, 1342 for the Pinto. And 1243 for a Xflow
esky boi
Also, if you dont have a timing gun you can use a light bulb.. turn the engine over until you get no.1 piston to TDC, then take the dizzy cap off and connect one wire from the bulb to the points, and the other to earth. Then turn the crank backwards until youre at 8 degrees on the timing scale, now undo the bolt on the dizzy and turn it till the light goes off then turn in in the opposite direction till the light just turns on. Tighten the bolt and double-check by moving the pulley back, just off the scale, then turn it in the right direction and the light should just turn on as you hit 8 degrees Doesnt matter if its not bang on (can be a little more advanced, like between 8 and 10 is ok) You might have to have a couple of goes at it the first time, but yea.. Then just adjust the valve clearances and the carb mixture, and it should be running sweet
