I am in the early process of it now. Have most of the parts just need to rebuild the engine with forgies.

The cost for me will be around $5500, but thats with forgies which are round 2g. Al depends where you get stuff form and shit. I have got an Evo7 turbo, injectors, fuel and oil pumps from a mate so that cuts alot of price down.

The head is also big bucks unless you know someone.

All depends what parts you use, computer is expensive unless you can tune yourself and use an AC delco, or use draw through.

Hit up RT as he has done it a few times, or just look on his site it tells a very good tale. I have asked most of the questions you will ask RT so if you(RT) cant be bothered answering ill forward them.

what is involved in turboing a 2L cortina engine and wat cost are you looking at?

what kind of turbo set up is best to use etc?

thats a pretty broad question there...

cost depends on how fast you want to go.

and the best turbo...depends on how fast you want to go...

so, how fast do you wanna go? :P

you can do a super budgo setup for around 150hp for maybe $1000..?

or you can go bezerk and have something like mine 250hp for

$4000-6000?

A turbo manifold either aftermarket like mine or custom made like Methodz100. A turbo, some piping, take your carb off and make up a bracket that bolts on your manifold and route the turbo outlet over the top of your rocker cover and stick a sidedraught SU carb on the front of the turbo and do a draw through on 6-7psi.

That should get you around 150hp. Oh, you should also get the head ported. Thats always the first call for a performance pinto.

like this: suckthrough.jpg

however this this a budget way of doing it in my opinion. I don't like carbs and turbos.

I don't wanna start this arguement again...

but in my opinion they don't make very good friends and everyone that I know who builds a turbo carb setup always end up injecting it eventually.

Turbo carb setups can either be draw through or suck through (i think) and with a suck through, you can intercool, but with a draw through youll need a Pleneum (like with fuel injection).

it would probably be a lot either to get get injectors for the pinto.

Jinx sold some recently (to methodz i think ??) from the British sierra

draw through and suck through are the same. ie. pictured above. the other carb option is blow through. Where you build a pressurised box over your carb and blow compressed air through that. It is this one that you can intercool and have a BOV but is often more complicated to get right and ideally you need a carb that is designed for turbocharging.

Efi seems like the harder and more complicated route and takes a bit more effort in the beginning but once you take into account all the mucking around trying to get the turboed carb to play nicely its all worth it!
