atropine
ok.. next thing on the list for when i get the escort back is suspension.. but im not that good with it.. what can people tell, from hearsay or experience.. bilstein shocks? adjustable konis.. what about the whole nolathane/polyurethane thing.. im pretty clueless so far with suspension.. would considering a turret kit be way too far in a road car and a bit too much work? also would turrets eliminate a back seat? so whos a suspension expert here... RT
Depends all on what sort of driving you're into.. For serious fanging around a track then bilsteins are the way, but if you don't hang corners that hard then they're overkill and you won't notice em really. Adjustible suspension again for track use, but if you're just gonna have em wound right down all the time then maybe a waste of money. Just get you car certified as low as possible with shortened struts and lowered springs. I'd say, new gas shocks all round, lowering blocks in the rear and if you want get your macpherson struts modified with a thread for adjustible platform suspension.. You can really goto town on your suspesion. My advice is to know exactly what you want before starting. I knew I wanted my car low but didn't specify EXACTLY. If you just take it in to a suspension place and tell them you want it as low as possible, they'll throw in a set of 'lowered' coils which is fuck all like 1.5". I spent heaps of cash getting my car sitting right, had I known then what I know now I could have had it done properly the first time for a 1/2 the price! Jerm
yeah tell them exactly how low you want it .. if they are any good they will sort it out..... i considered getting fully adjustable struts at the front .... its not that expensive and is really usefull but i decided against it for now... Cut fronts with modifyed struts and thicker oil... i think it is a tad to hard at the front though and i got 2 inch blocks at the back with adjustable konis set at about 3/4 towards hard.. which is perfect... made so much difference when i put the konis in... it transformed the car.... rode pretty shit before... it cured all my understeer which was the main thing.... Mr.Mk1
Nolathane bushes throghout will tighten it up no end and should be done as well as your shocks and lowering springs (even thought I know your not looking to scrape). Dont think turreting it is required just now, but its up to u and your preferences, as RT said...
SYKOV6
just remember that low isnt everything it may look cool but remember ya have to be able to drive it its no use if its only good on a perfectly smooth road and you live in hawkes bay so u know none of the roads are good. its just shit if the exhaust or some other part of the car hits the road on any major bump or if ya have more than 1 passenger aboard. its better to have a sane ride height with a good spring and shock package so it looks good but handles well also. ya can have both it just depends how much $ ya want to spend. or ya can AIRBAG it so it sits on the sills when ya park up at the repco car park[private hawkes bay joke]
atropine
hahahah the dominos boyz? exactly though.. i just laugh at my brother taking 20seconds to get through the last 2metres of my driveway, or going over the havelock north speedbumps at 5kph (i use to hit them at around 90kph at night for fun.. maybe thats why im looking at gettin my susp. uprated.).. but other than that, unless its done right and on the right car, i dont think lowering is what every thinks its cracked up to be. and yeah.. whats bagging.. around 4grand for a good set? use to be anyway.. lol
RT
yeah I agree.. I'm always cursing cos my sideskirts keep getting damaged and I've got traction bars underneath that scrape on the ground. And often I can't get a jack under the front crossmember.. or when I go to the workshop and the mechanic can't get it on the hoist cos it's too low..and I scrape the sideskirts again... I'm actually thinking of taking em off... ...BUT, it's all worth it when you're walking back to your parked car and it's totally sacked out with absolutely no guard space to speak of, and you think 'yeah dats mean' hehe
SYKOV6
4 grand! jesus boy u got 2 much money. that much would get ya a fully adjustable setup prob more like 1-2 for a good alround set up
