  1. Pre-ran the first half of day 3 today combined with a shakedown run for the NBC. Front brakes gained a whole heap of power over the day which was reassuring. I also managed to lose a rear axle nut at 80km/h. Shopping list for this week is sundry Nylocs and a beer to drop off at the guy from Tadmor who let me rummage in his spare nuts. Some pretty cool new gravel, Sunday Creek Road will be a bit of a treat. Managed to score a passenger ride with @mattj competing in a gravel track race. Sorry about the ballast. Dropped into see @ThePog too, confirmed Day 2 will have a bonus 115km for me. Sounds like the Maungatapu and Braeburn are running well if a little rocky. Fizzing....
  2. Did the first speed run on the NBC this afternoon, I'm tempted to drop a tooth or two at the front next chain /sprocket change as top speed is basically the same in 3rd and 4th. I'm going to pre-run the first half of day 3 tomorrow too just to make sure we're getting the best route possible.
  3. The Maungatapu will be particularly rough with the flooding there's been recently, will add to the adventure! Fresh Golden Boys fitted, a lot easier with soap and talc than dry!
  4. I was going to run a big 2.5kW inverter off a car as an emergency back up charger, but it looked a bit industrial with 12mm leads... I ended out just driving at a constant 60km/h on the flat and hills (pulling over as soon as anyone came up behind) and maximum coast down the Whangamoas (interesting at 44psi, but it handles really nicely) . Arrived in town with 35 km of range.
  5. Kind of thread relevant, I'm helping a mate hyper mile a low SOH Nissan Leaf today to help get it from Blenheim to Nelson... Tyres to 50psi...drafting etc on the cards.
  6. The 155 tyres are sitting outside ready to be trialled if you want to!
  7. Exactly, plus with the Braeburn currently closed that might be what we'd have to do anyway, a double helping of Porika would be awesome.
  8. Would be a shame to split the ride up if we don't have to. 630am meet at the Caltex for 7am departure should give us plenty of time to ride Porika and Braeburn and back in Blenheim mid afternoon I would have thought.
  9. There are a few creeks on the Maungatapu, but not of any real significance. Even in flood they'd only be 5-10m wide and less than knee deep.
  10. Yeah, I'm doing a camchain on the NBC110 before the ride. My OCD has clicked that prevention is better than cure.
  11. Semi ling/ I've done lost PLA casting with plaster which we burnt off in a furnace, apart from ~10% shrinkage with the aluminium it worked well.
  12. If there's someone hardcore from Chch, that would make the trip extra epic!
  13. Yeah slips galore unfortunately along that road. Portage is boat access only at the moment. I'd be suspicious it's a pretty big deal slip as they'll be missing out on the Summer season. Queen Charlotte Drive will be hilarious on a small bike.
  14. Just foreshadowing a possible issue here, the road is closed just before Portage as of yesterday (currently staying in Momorangi Bay) I'd propose a back up of heading towards French Pass if we needed it? It would involve a bit more of a seal stage but still the same kind of flavour.
  15. I imagine @Mof means to St Arnaud, then down the Wairau on the road to Blenheim?
  16. Great ideas here, here is a ride I did about 12 years ago, it's ~500km total so probably not bad over 3 days, but I'd tweak it with @Pee Dubs sounds ideas. https://www.wikiloc.com/trail-bike-trails/20091114-seven-summits-ride-89525114
  17. Does this mean that @ajg193 will be into it? So confusing....
  18. @terceldude https://photos.app.goo.gl/MBY81UZp6TmNbJya9 Here is a NZ new one that I spotted this year. The owner is local and has had it from new, her grandchildren go to the same school as my kids. If I see her around I'll ask her on your behalf.
  19. The Maungatapu is a little gnarlier than that, but it still looks a lot more comfy than @Chunky_ts ride!
  20. Yeah I'd love to see a twist and go at this event, but it probably needs to be capable of an 80km/h cruising speed. Last year the slowest bikes appeared to be new Honda Monkey 125s (they were fine, but pretty consistent). I want something for this event, last year I rode/cheated on a WR250R. If someone has anything interesting, road legal, <200cc and is interested in a running/reg on hold 1983 Honda FT500, hit me up.
  21. I have a possible top of the south island loop planned for a future ride that includes these plus quite a few other adventures, we'll see what the appetite is post Molesworth 2022.
  22. There's plenty of side trails on day 1 like Mt Altimarloch, or other bits and pieces towards Hanmer if you went in the Rainbow a wee way. https://www.adventureridingnz.co.nz/gps-tracks-rides/south-island-tracks/
  23. Your motor in one of these, oh my! https://www.trademe.co.nz/3241799129 Does anyone know anything about them?
  24. Little bro is after a combo oil pressure/boost gauge for his 180SX Type X. This funtionally is sweet, but doesn't look that great. What does the hive mind of Oldschool reckon? https://www.shopsaas.com/saas-dual-gauge-boost-0-30-psi-ana-oil-press-140-psi-dig-trax-series-sg611230?fbclid=IwAR2KQqQ73Ew48wN09SviaAW6KycIBPPqZGnzvNbrLhkl128JvDUHvVrIj5s
