Now that the speed limit on my daily commute has been lowered to 80kmh max (WANKERS) I have been having my usual retarded ideas of buying something cheap to run for the 70km round trip. If something like that could do 35km each way at 80kmh max, it would be cheap motoring (apart from purchase price obvs) and be a bit of fun to go for a hoon on now and then.

So, a better electrical noggin than mine might see a flaw in this, but power required to go faster squares each time it doubles so my gut is you will probably do the 35km to work, but then need to charge it to get home.

In my opinion, 60,000km NBCs are now overpriced compared to near new CT125s/Groms/Monkeys/Super Cubs anyone ridden a CB125F, they look too cheap to be real....

It's not old, but I think it's pretty cool.

Just paid for it, now waiting for it to ship. 2016 Alto Works, manual, 660cc 3 pot turbo and 4wd.

Does it have the Recaros too?!

Right. Does anyone here with an EV get anywhere close to the estimated kms remaining (as indicated on the dash) and are you getting anywhere close to the range shown within the sales literature.

Cant remember if i have mentioned this here, but I have put serious effort into getting atto3 to return anywhere close to stated range and it is absolutely futile. No town driving or open road driving is going to get you close. You would literally have to do 340km downhill or drafting behind a truck to get close or maybe cook yourself with no heater/AC on (or something, i don't know)

As far as I am concerned the literature is a lie and the *in ideal conditions* statement is referring to conditions that legitimately cannot be attained.

I have been questioning the sales yard (BYD andrew simms) and am not getting any feedback worth a damn.

Also worth noting, they no longer sell this 50kw standard range model in nz.

bit pissed as 250km range is proving to be *just*enough to be a fucking pain in the ass.

Folks get pretty much what it says on the tin mixed driving in a Tesla Model 3 SR. Round town only would be ~10% more. Open road only, ~10% less.

is there information missing from this post? :-)

Which bit? My first project is upskilling so I can teach it better to students, I want them to do a solar tracker project next year, and an antclass robot wars kind of thing in 2025. I need to be able to solve the problem before I teach it, I find nice hand tools make fiddly wiring more of a satisfying process...

He's actually looking at refining it this year, I'm encouraging him to document it so that others could follow the recipe if they were interested. To be honest the technology curriculum is set up for prototyping rather than making a final polished product.

He's also making the CNC plasma I mentioned in @ThePogs thread.

Caught up with this student a few weeks back. He's just finishing his second year at UC and wants to develop this project further so is going to work on it over summer. Just looking at upgrading my personal kit, is there a Knipex, or similar quality for cheaper option out there?

Give Mega in ChCh a ring.  they carry Ferodo.

Two sets of pads in my garage from Mega, no Ferodo as they don't stock them in this model. A Kevlar/organic and a semi sintered. Cheers for the heads up.

  7. I'd like my brakes on my 'CG125' front end from mBike to have more bite, especially when 'cold' not super worried about wear rate/dust. Anyone got any good options?

The caliper and brake pads are also referred as LT-F888 or LF-F808.

    Any pointers much appreciated.

Ok I’m ready to be schooled, Tesla’s why wouldn’t you consider a couple year old model 3?

Ive never had nor driven an ev but these seem to have most things going for them and can be had at mid $40’s? Thoughts opinions other options etc welcome.

Also if it been covered already send me a link cheers all

I'd look at the Chinese made Standard Range Plus as a bonus over the US made ones. Being able to charge the battery to 100% consistently is a lot less brain admin for a simpleton like me compared to mostly charging to 80% unless you're on a trip. Depreciation hasn't really hit these yet unless it's a Performance/LR model...

From what I read, the early (2011-2013?) Leafs had a shit heater that drained your battery massively, as well as the worst battery. After that it was better but only some have a heat pump. Is there an easy way to tell if a JDM leaf has a heat pump?

https://samholford.github.io/leafguide/ then ctrl+F with 'pump', it's pretty much the best source of Leaf knowledge I've found.

I'm wondering if the next few months might be a good time to buy an old leaf.

There's a reasonable chance the freebate system will be scrapped before long. As soon as that's announced, I think we'll see the same reaction as when it came in. Lots of people wanting an electric car with discount will push up the prices of fresh imports and the prices of older imports will follow suit.

The only counter to that idea is when RUCs are introduced it won't look quite so much like ultra cheap motoring either. I'd be suspicious there will have to be RUCs (and no tax on fuel) on everything too as PHEVs will blow minds otherwise.

Thats still pretty dam good they were not much more than that new?

I'm not sure, you can see numbers anywhere from 40-60km when new online. A mate's (with 100K km less than mine) does about 25km around town but I think he just drives it like a car, rather than trying to eek out range. My 34km was up and down hills etc, but minimal use of brakes, which might make a difference. Still not an expert as only picked it up on Sunday.

^I don't own one but i'm really interested in a Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV so that's what i'd be looking at.. anyone on here know much about them?

Yeah, so since this post I'm now the owner of one with 248K km. Still has 34km of range on battery only. Wahine is keen on being a one car family and this is one of the cheaper ways of ticking all the boxes. This is possibly targeted to @kws but is there anything in the way of preventative maintenance I should be doing?

I will also have a 2GR Toyota Mark X Zio w/151km coming up for sale in the near future @HighLUX/ anyone else?!

has anyone been brave enough to buy a <$6k leaf specifically to put in stock for when the ev's enhanced battery becomes available?

i assume there will be a very short window where the economics of doing this are favourable but this would be a great combo to replace our runaround fleet with.

I've got a few people into cheap Leafs in the past few years but all have been purchased with making the most of the minimal range rather than being stored. I saw an ~75% SOH battery the other day for sale for $4.5k. This combined with a rebate eligible cheap Leaf and flick the <50% battery onto someone for cheap solar energy storage would stack up pretty well.

I still don't have a Leaf as my wife/kids still think I'm cool enough to walk to work with. This might change next year when the eldest arrives at the school I teach at...
