  1. put in 4 new plugs, she fired up nice. 2 ballast resistors do not help! Phil had a tutu with the timing... sexy as can be!
  2. well mine does, dunno if they all do. it is a long wire curled around the other ignition/ light/ accesory wires. There is no mention of it in the anglia manuals
  3. hmmm factory ballast resistor wrapped around ignition lead. Add this to the ballast resistor I had on the coil that was given to me = 2 ballast resistors 2 ballast resistors + 1 coil = no good 2 plugs are fekked i suspect, (cylinders 2 and 3) new plugs in tomorrw, fek around with timing and HOPEFULLY Happy days!
  4. nice you got their details. I caught a burglar in my house once, ended up infront of a judge on an assault charge. Luckily the judge threw it out.
  5. hey man, well 1) the coil I brought was a non ballasted one, apparently it needed a ballasted coil. (although the original one wasnt) so there was not enuff juice to get a good spark. 2) there was a pile of crud in the carb 3) one of the bolts on the inlet mani had come loose and dropped out, resulting in a bit of 'bubbling' around the manifold on the inlet to #2 cylinder, explaining one reason while she is running a bit crook so 1) put the other coil back in, (Sorry Pete I will not get your coil back to you for a bit) 2) sorted with a clean cloth 3) off to repco/ BNT to get a new bolt, I think there is a spare mani gasket in the shed So tomorrow she will get her timing etc checked out incase the thing had self adjusted herself out of tune. Cheers for your concern. Hope to post a vid of her running like a clock tomorrow
  6. cheers UJ, I was reluctant to pull another one from the manifold as one has disappeared. I was trying to be tight and not buy a new gasket
  7. What length and threadpattern are these for a ford pre crossflow motor? Cheers
  8. my parents neighbour brought one of these new, he still has it I think. It did have some get up and go when he brought it. He took me for a ride in it. He was a 60+ year old chinese bloke when it was new so he didnt do skids, but it seemed capable of it. Maybe just be content with power slides. BTW I am impressed with your ability to fix the CD player and your ambition to get the car phone working too!
  9. there must be a leak or something.. Even my subaru is not that bad with a 2500 binary engine. (binary - it is either idling or at full throttle, never in the middle!)
  10. got my auto electrician mate coming round tomorrow. He will sort it, All a bit beyond me I think. Electrons are something else I do not understand LOL
  11. do not think dist is 180 out, will check, but that should not make a difference would it.. I tried fuel, tried start y bastard Might have to get a professional in
  12. hmm new condensor, new points, new fuel. has spark but will not start Madness
  13. fella, that truck is the ducks nuts, cats meow and the dogs bollocks all rolled into one. I am incredibly jealous. I love the 60mph speedo!
  14. roger that, cheers guys. shopping list tomorrow: start ya bastard and condensor, also snow shoes if it keeps up all night
  15. hmm pulled all the plugs, they seemed fine, all had spark fuel is 3 - 4 weeks old i will buy a tin of start y bastard in the morning and see how that goes as the engine would fire, but not catch will also add a tin of new fuel to the tank
  16. had an idea for a meat.. Yaldurst transport museum http://www.yaldhurstmuseum.co.nz/ followed by beers at the yaldy!
  17. Better make my 300th post a good un then. Was out in the garage cranking it and checking sparks, rrrr rrrr rrrr Just before the battery got too week to crank her, I notices 'smoke' coming off the neg terminal on the battery. Burnt my finger on the terminal bolt.. Done it up tight and giving the battery a bit of a charge, will try her at 9pm Will edit this magical 300th post if she starts. Congrats on 69 posts my friend edit: I did a read up on the haynes manual.. perhaps the condensor is buggered. According to mr haynes if the ignition is ON and you manually open the points and there is a 'flash' the condensor is rooted. Thats exactly what happened. Will go to repco and get a new condensor tomorrow. if you disagree let me know
  18. Hi there, Well I have a 12v lawnmower that the battery was on for 4 years (full to flat every fortnight for 4 years). So I think it is not the best battery. I found my sparkplug tester and checked each lead today, it is sparking. I will pull the plugs tonight and check em (after 8 tonight.. bloody cold garage) I think it is coil or points as it got progressively worse running each time I started it, now she will not start at all. Pissed off as I put new points, condensor and a good coil into it. However I may take you up on the offer of a coil just to see if I killed that one.
  19. Missus had work, so I got stuck at home babysitting.. DAMMIT
  20. I will be intouch when the chch anglias come south.. BBQ at your place?
  21. hmm points and condensor are 50 miles old, as are the plugs. i will pull em out in the weekend, might go see the kids at Repco for a coil
  22. we plan an Anglia mission to timaru this summer... Will be intouch
