  1. You want to race me? Or are you asking if I race? /NZ European Fuck I actually laughed out loud at "/NZ European" though what I was meaning was will you accept a race of your 610 against my C110. Though I do have to actually get mine legit again aaaaaand we would need a race-track to compete on, because I'm weird like that. I accept your race, although I have little (read: no) racing experience so I will probably lose. And yeah, racing on the track as opposed to the road is definitely the go. I can't wait to see your C110 on the road. I have followed the progress with interest.
  2. *arms in the shape of an X* No Deal! I'm tentatively hoping to have the wagon back on the road this weekend. If all goes well.

  4. Bang on. Apparently when they designed the 610 they used the 510 lower arms but moved the upper mounting points for the struts further apart (I guess to get more engine bay room?) which gave them inherent positive camber. Some of the 610s came with factory-fitted offset strut tops to counteract this. Like many others, mine didn't. I've got some rose-jointed adjustable lower control arms here to put in it, which I'm hoping will allow me to dial in a degree of negative camber. First I need to get my wagon back on the road so I can drive that while I work on my sedan.
  5. Cheers dude, I saw it one week when I was back visiting my parents and decided that I had to have it. Bought it and have never looked back. Fell in love with them so much that I have a wagon version now as well I still see the guy that sold it to me occasionally and he always says he is glad he sold it to me. That feels good to hear I could be interested in a sweet HKS manifold. PM me with how much you are after for it.
  6. Long story short: I got the car running and went for a cert. Tidied up a few minor things (WOF stuff, nothing to do with the modifications) and got the cert no problem. I took the engine and gearbox back out to fix a few patches of rust that didn't get done the first time and so I could paint the engine bay and exterior of the car again. So it basically looks like this now: This car is my daily and to be honest I just love getting out and about in it. I literally had someone bail me up for a yarn at every gas station between the Bay of Plenty and Christchurch last year when I travelled down for Datsun nats.
  7. Discussion here: http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=28024 Here we go. Ignore the dates on any of the photos...they are wrong. I bought this car when I was at Uni off an older guy who lived down the same street as my parents. When I took possession it was a tired looking little car which also sported a 3 speed auto gearbox. After driving around for a couple of months I decided to get the rust fixed and paint it. Front inserts were poked, so I got new shocks and dobisport lows as well. I paid a workshop to do it and to be honest I was never really that happy with it. I'm glad I later decided to set the suspension up myself. I drove it round for a few more months and then picked up a 5 speed dogleg gearbox for it. I then proceeded to do my first manual conversion on a car. It went quite well. I got stuck sorting out the inhibitor switch for a while, but once that was worked out it ran like a treat! I knew that someday I would probably do an engine conversion, so I decided the brakes could do with an upgrade. If I did upgrade the brakes I knew my beloved Hustlers would no longer fit. I bought some Impul FZs to take their place. I really like these wheels, and since I've had them I don't know if I've seen another car with ones just like them. They are 2 piece, 6.5" wide and I think +19 offset. They ended up fitting quite well...although the rear ones could do with being a touch wider. I also snagged an R160 Clutch LSD out of a Subaru Leone Turbo that a guy was setting up for rallying. Score! While putting the diff in I also converted to R31 Skyline struts and brakes on the front and R31 rear brakes. I only have a photo of the rear disks going on though. I drove round for a while with just the standard L18 under the bonnet, and considered a few different engine conversions (got quite close to putting a CA18DE into it). Eventually I decided on a Z18ET I had to alter the engine mounts and fabricate up some stuff for the radiator, but I used the original gearbox crossmember, driveshaft, etc which made things easy. One of the guys on NZDatsun came and gave me a hand wiring up my ECU and fuel pump, but we couldn't get it started. Eventually found that it had blocked injectors and once they were cleaned out it fired up and has run pretty darn well since. I've replaced the ECU with another standard one and replaced the second hand VL fuel pump and that's about it. Whew. A bit more to come...
  8. I would be keen, but unfortunately a 2hr drive up and then 2hr drive back for work on Friday means it is quite unlikely. Is the monthly meet always on a Thursday? Re: Project thread - I'll get around to it when I can be bothered uploading all the photos to photobucket or whatever. I'm guessing that most people who are into Datsuns will have seen my cars already at NZDatsun.
  9. It's times like this I wish I still lived in Hamilton. Damn you Eastern Bay of Plenty!
  10. Chances are it will either not go low enough, or if it does the springs won't be captive (thus use shorter inserts to keep them captive). Edit: Beaten.
  11. Just changed the orientation of the MAF sensor and that seemed to fix it. Huh. Fancy that.
  12. Hi team, Desperately trying to get my mate's Altezza ready for a blat around the track this weekend. It has a beams 3SGE which is turbocharged (low comp, aftermarket ECU, etc) and was tuned about a week or so ago. It has developed a miss (feels almost like hitting the limiter) when transitioning from off boost to on boost. It doesn't seem to happen every time boost comes on, and apparently it can happen when the engine is cold or hot. It idles/cruises fine and once on boost it appears to run fine. It runs a MAF sensor when off boost and the switches to a MAP sensor when boost comes in...we're wondering if this could be the source of the problem? Has anybody had a problem like this before? Cheers
  13. ^ Awesome. So easy to understand. Would read again. A++.
  14. ^ this. I chucked a new thermostat in my Z18ET and was freaking out when it was sitting at 2/3 on the temp gauge. Turned out that the gauge was out and it was actually getting up to temp instead of running cold like it did on the buggered thermostat.
  15. Haha hey Lawrence! I'm heading up to hamilton in the 180B this avo. Give me a txt and we can catch up during the weekend while I'm there/I can look at your A15 build.
  16. When I changed my 180B from auto to manual I just used the auto radiator (which had trans lines into it). I just removed the lines. It ran fine and the temp was sweet so I wouldn't see any problem with using one.
  17. My mates got into these when I was at uni and we had a little 39cc watercooled one that could do 70km/h. Was scary as hell at that speed though, and wobbled pretty hard when you hit the brakes.
  18. ^ Agreed. Also, as I've just found out recently, certs are a piece of piss if you aren't an absolute rough bastard.
  19. I got told that if your car hasn't been for a WOF for a certain amount of time (can't remember how long) then they will do a WOF style check over the entire car while doing your cert. I'm not sure if this is a yarn or not but I wasn't really worried as you have to go for a WOF eventually anyway.
  20. Are there really that many people running silly stretch on the streets? I wouldn't really know as I don't see it with taupo being small, only what I see people posting on forums but most of them aren't being silly about it. I guess auckland/hamilton/chch with lots of boyracers maybe there are alot of people being stupid? I agree, I don't think I've seen any cars running insane stretch on the road, and I'm in Hamilton fairly often... Maybe I'm just not in the right place at the right time
  21. Wow just read this for the first time. Love the two engines idea. Awesome
