  1. sweet! another mk2 on oldschool! looks like someones been showing it some love. win win!
  2. Hahaha its funny how everyone with a Cortina knows Craig in Waiuku.
  3. everything looks mint mate. nice work
  4. Small update. Had a look at using the rails I took off the outside and relocating them to the inside. Soon became obvious that it would be a lot of work considering that id like to keep the Bakliner deck. Went with some U bolts in the end. There are 4 mountings there with one more coming for the dog at the center of the front panel. Still a bit of tidying up to do Was a tricky fit trying to get the deck back in but if I slacken the nuts off first it works. I'll probably silicone in behind the holes I cut so water and dirt don't get in underneath the plastic. The deck will go off to a plastic welder sometime soon to get the cracks patched up. chur
  5. Hahahaha Look at what I found!. Skip the drama and go to 3.51. This is not long after I got her a fair few years ago. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wYikTnDv_OI
  6. Shaving the rails off the outside. Will either relocate them to the inside of the tray or install some u bolts so I can tie stuff down. Will definitely have to suss something so the dog can come for rides. I am terrible at remembering to take photos so youll notice they jump around abit. and tacked welded. My welding skills arent good enough to not require filler but got some good results anyhow. Filler to come later. I found the holes in the rear panel below the tailgate annoying so set about deleting them. They must have been there to mount a bumper to the chassis but meh! Crap photo to show but yeah I forgot to take a pic of it before. A bit of filler can do the rest. I also did the opposite side but failed to take photos purposely because its mostly the same shit. Baremetalled the tray floor and painted POR15 Baremetaled the passenger side and rear. Photo is after metal readying had been done. Metal Ready is cool. Kinda wish I could leave it looking like that. POR15 on. After this the dogs head turned in to a football.
  7. Seems like I’ve been quite idle on this but I can sadly say this ute takes up more of my time than my Cortina does. Me and my girl have our first kid on the way so as you can imagine there is lots of stuff to buy, things to do and learn etc etc. So less car stuff to do but more dad stuff like building a kids bookcase and restoring a dresser amongst other things. I have been putting in some time though so here we go. I removed the guards and shaved the antenna hole, also replaced the filler in the side badge holes with metal. Removed a whole lot of surface rust from underneath and POR15’d them. That pic is after a couple of months of exposure to UV light. It only affects the way it looks not its anti rust properties. In removing the guards I discovered other delights. Like this. and this I could hear the words ringing in my ears from the lady I purchased it through (was her nephews who moved overseas) ‘He loved that ute’. Hahaha what bollocks! Anyway it was a good excuse to improve on my novice welding skills. No substitute for practical experience and it seems to be the way with me. Definitely getting more confident and getting better results. POR15d my tailgate and what i think i can safely call a tailjam? Just a bit of surface rust and a few nicks there. After that I thought I would clean up behind the wiper/air vent panel just below the windscreen. I found some water inside a few days before so was skeptical as to what I might find. Another delight! I forgot to take a picture before I cut it out but it was actually kinda funny. Ford in their infinite wisdom put a bolt for the guard underneath this panel which as it turns out is a pretty awkward place for one. I think the last owner has gone to take the guard off maybe to fill those side badging holes. There he encountered some difficulty which resulted in him bending, buckling, cutting and drilling the area around the bolt to free the guard. Which he did, but then failed to rectify his trail of destruction. So rusty area cut out and flattened 1st underlying patch in and smoothed out. Then top patch on then smoothed My plastic weld repairs had seemed to be going the distance until last week when we drove up to Helensville to visit family. The liner wasn’t held down ofcourse and it was a particularly windy day. So I pulled in to the house in Helensville and ofcourse the liner wasn’t there! Drove back 10 mins and found it on the side of the road. I had expected to find it in a million pieces but it was all there just a couple of cracks had re-emerged. hahaha F it. Bought some paint to smother the thing in. Its going a bright orange with hopefully some black striping/detailing to come later. Im nowhere near the paint stage yet but its a motivator to keep things rolling before the baby arrives.
  8. coming along really fast mate. nice one!
  9. Nice fleet mate. Looking forward to seeing more of the rat ute
  10. Been pushing on with the stripping and blasting. Its not entirely clean yet but it will be. A few areas particularly in the front end will need patching but overall Im stoked with how its coming out.
  11. Converted my garage into a blasting room and a spare bedroom into mass storage. Been blasting the sh&* out of the car and making good progress. No photos at the mo cos it aint a very camera friendly environment. This will be me for the next few weeks I think. Trying to get the blasting done this summer and then get the car in for some patches.
  12. glad to hear you found another tray!
  13. Ive por15'd the chassis from the rear of the cab back. Also took it for its longest drive yet. Drove 30 mins out to pick up a replacement tray. Got home feeling good that I had ticked one issue off the list. Then walked into a puddle of coolant on my way into the house. Damn. One issue is resolved and another surfaces. Seems to be coming from the engine somewhere, hoses are old but doing their job. Couldn't be fu*&ed with it. Slammed the door. Left it for another day.
  14. No patches on yet. Still not good enough with a welder. Practicing. Trying to be patient with it. Sourced a replacement tray so removed the old one to find that theres quite a bit of rust underneath. Took it all back to metal then metal readied it and splashed some Por 15. Will hopefully have the rest of the rear section of chassis done tomorrow. The underside of the tray was quite bad. Idiot had covered rust in this seam with silicone. So this is what was hidden on the other side.
  15. looks awesome man. Your interior makes me crave white chocolate.
  16. Had my first go at welding... Just practising at this stage. F&*k Im terrible. more practise needed by heaps.
  17. I’ve pretty much given up on getting the car finished this summer. It’s just not gonna happen. It guts me but work is slow, I’m trying to get a house deposit together and it takes me too long to do anything as I’m so picky. It doesn’t help that I bought a ute. It’s going to become my daily but it needs work so the tina hasn’t progressed much since the last update. More bits blasted, metal readied and painted....The pile of bits in the living room grows! Bought this yesterday. Havent welded anything before so Im going to experiment for ages before using my ute as a guinea pig. Then if I feel confident I may tackle the easier bits on the cortina.
  18. Picked up this puppy from BOC yesterday. Unfortunately I didnt have enough $$ for some wire as well So that will have to wait till pay day. $630+GST. Pretty happy with that. I decided to do what I could to straighten the front bumper. The mounts were pretty rusty so I chucked them in the blast cab then gave em some POR15. They are now the best looking part of the car! I didn't have hopes of getting it looking perfect. Just wanted to make it look a little better. Before After Paint doesn't match but I dont care for the mo. Will probably paint the whole truck in the next 6 months so Ill do it properly then (and purchase some panel hammers and dollies)
  19. Bummer bro. Could you pillage some bits off another tray of another make?
  20. Had a whole bunch of this crap in the tray of my ute covering rust. Pissed me off so much to find all of it. It's as if they thought it would just disappear if they covered it and ignored it. Yeah its pretty low. Means Im gonna have to get another tray. Definitely one with a tuff deck me thinks
  21. Ive been spending too much time on this as the Cortina sits neglected in the garage. For wof I've - Adjusted torsion bars to give the suspension some travel (it had none) - Fitted some bumpstops in the rear (it had none) - Fitted some replacement chrome trim around the windscreen (it had none) - Fitted another bonnet - Cleaned up some rust on the engine crossmember. Last thing on the wof list is some rust removal in about 5 different places The annoying thing is that in my time working on the ute I can see what an idiot the guy was that I bought it off. Stupid stuff like painting over mud and grease. Covering up rust in the tray with a rubbery seam sealer. Boring annoying shit.
