  1. What's yer plan with the trailer hub? Prolly being daft but how do you mount a spare wheel on that?
  2. I was just about to congratulate you on the pushrod 8 luxa, and then you yanked it... What's goin in instead?
  3. Must've been lols pulling up outside the international terminal in your multiply illegal landcruiser road train, good shit. Re height, I reckon drive it for a while and see how you like it. 35s + 2.5" lift springs + 2" body lift is prolly a good place to be I reckon, should be well capable and definitely shouldn't be too scary on the road (even if missus still has to jump)
  4. Yeap full float, looking badass with the new tyres btw. For brakes I just dredged my email and for calipers I used KZN130 ones and the standard 60-series rotors, easy mod as they are a straight swap and should be same for yours (40/60/70 series stuff is all mostly interchangeable). I left the rear with drums, recall there were relatively easy disc upgrades but the new calipers alone made a decent difference so I left it there.
  5. Wow that sucks re the rust man, hopefully some gurus on this site can recommend something there... Re the semi versus full float diffs, I believe the cruiser semi floats use a c-clip design to retain the axle though I have never worked on a semi float. As per comments via PM the way to tell what you have (semi versus full float at least) is if yer hubs protrude out from the mounting face of the wheel = full float. Re brakes there are some good bolt on caliper upgrades you can do, I forget what I had on my 60-series but think they were from V6 surf, and I believe the big Sumitomo (eg Celsior) brakes also were a straight bolt-on. Google to check as some years have passed since I did mine, made a noticeable difference with 35s (and EFI Chev 350) on big heavy 60 series though...
  6. My old 60 series (green truck in pic above) had longer shackles, was scary to drive at first with constant micro steering adjustment to counter the wandering steering but once I shimmed the diff to rotate the axle back to normal (ie fix the castor), it drove mint. I also had a 2" body lift, I reckon its a good way to lift actually as you're not lifting the center of gravity as much as lifting the entire chassis like you are with springs. You don't get the articulation benefits but getting the biggest tyres you can with the smallest change in centre of gravity is the win, as clearance under the diff counts for more than chassis clearance in my book
  7. Looking good man, did you take it for a scrape around the block? Reckon 1" body lift and new 2" springs will clear the 35s? My mate had a sprung over 70 running 37s, unfamiliar with what it takes sprung under though
  8. Some other rad stuff I found in the glovebox: Wonder if these are still redeemable...
  9. Haha yeah he's a big lad, truck does feel pretty small by today's standards though, I'm only 5'11 and feel like I wanna slide the seat back a further couple inches (but is already hard against cab). Would be mean to grab some parts off ya, figured out my truck has handbrake on the transfer case so I would also need to grab with transfer and some handbrake bits to make the 5-speed work. Interesting cause either my ute has an older style driveline retro fitted, or the US spec info on the international cruiser forums isn't relevant to NZ trucks as apparently late model 40s are supposed to have handbrake in the rear drums (making 5 speed swap easier). Nah wheels and tyres were bought last year says a receipt in the glove box. Yeah those new FJs are funny looking, when released I thought they looked weird but expected they'd grow on me - except they haven't
  10. Laying in wait I imagine, body is not perfect but the best of any I looked at
  11. Thread to tell me I need a spring over and 44" super swampers
  12. Thought I'd throw up a few pics of me new cruiser, bit dangerous posting this in the projects section as really don't wanna start modding this thing (in the near future at least)... It's a 1984 BJ45 Landcruiser flatdeck, the very last year of the 40 series cruisers. Other than having a disc brake front end and a few cosmetic changes there's not a lot to separate this from the earlier 40 series trucks, is still bare inside and drives like a tractor. Dog is stoked to have a functioning ute again Even has a hitch pin linkage, need mo implements: I bought to daily drive and do a bit of work on the block so near term upgrades will be focused on making commute tolerable. Already has a bunch of window and door seals replaced but mostly steel in the interior so still makes a lot of noise at highway speeds. When I bought it the little spring mechanism on the indicator stem was shagged and would flick randomly to high beams every 10-60 seconds, made for an interesting first drive back up from wellies, managed to blind a few strangers and anyone I was following must've thought that I was looking for a fight. Pulled the stem to bits and managed to fix that, and replaced the exhaust manifold gasket today as that was also blown to bits and super noisy under acceleration. Is running the original 3B and 4 speed so thinking longer term upgrades will be 5 speed, turbo and front mount, power steering and maybe bigger brakes. Also keen to stocker up the interior as much as possible (has velour drivers seat outa who knows what in it), and some period steel wheels prolly also on the cards. Cher thanks for lookin
  13. Wanna do a deal? 4.1s in my truck I think - not on the firewall so need to jack up and check, google says BJ45 should be... Am only looking to use mine as farm hand/ute about town so would be happy to swap for 3.7s and 5 speed assuming spline count on yer H55F suits... Rear is full float LSD, also some cash yer way let me know (PM me)
  14. Sweet, H55F? What diff ratios has it got in it?
  15. Hot BJ, I just acquired one also (40 series 3B no T). Where abouts are you man? I'm in Hams and could prolly help out re tig if you did all the metal work and presented me with a beautifully fit up, tacked sculpture so only have to run beads. Also depends if you want it back purged (prolly couldn't be bothered with that), and how picky you are as I'm no pro. Would be plenty pretty enough for a cruiser though... EDIT > see yer a fair way away, presuming too far And yeah body lift definitely needs certification, and bolts need to be to correct grade (or at least that was the deal when I did my 60-series ages ago)
  16. Looking good man, you know yer maturing with age when you can appreciate fine agricultural equipments. You looking to do some work with this or just work towards immaculate patina? I need a tractor and want something vintage but at the same time want to be able to do tractor stuff with it. Any advice for a tractor noob given the above?
  17. Progress has been pretty slow, mostly finishing welding the manifolds. Gotta bad tank of argon that sent me backwards. Was scratching my head for a while trying to figure out what was wrong and needless to say was a major fark around, had to remake one of the pipes due to compromised welds. Been accumulating many yellow paper bags of dirt cheap nickle and dime install parts from aliexpress (oil and water turbo fittings etc). Also bought one of the Aliexpress gas lens kits with pyrex cups for the tig torch. The visibility of the pyrex cup is a revelation, especially for $7 delivered! Also chickened out and bought the bigger wastegates, turbosmart 45mms. Contemplating a 4m long 2>1 screamer pipe exiting behind the rear wheel, should be enough room and sound ruthless (and hopefully pass cert). Wastegate, custom fit: ^ Can also see holes cut for the intake. Thinking air filters will go where fog lights are currently and get ram air straight from the front bumper. Dont have the filters yet but mocked up old filter for test (will be blacked out for stealth):
  18. This projy wins the engine to vehicle $$$ ratio award... Presume the Kia is a holding position https://ls1tech.com/forums/conversions-hybrids/1899893-v12-ls-swapped-kia-van.html
  19. Fuck you gotta add the canteen and shovel (latter mounted on down tube)! Also needs more winch, preferably PTO
  20. This will need to be a back burner project, as trying to concentrate on getting the ute done - though can't say I've ever been very successful on 'do it at a leisurely pace' projects... Your thing needs an ammo box or olive drab jerry can incorporated somewhere - new gas tank!?
  21. Mil-spec. I think I sniped you on an auction today. Lobbed a snipe bid on some broken down POS on trademe, and noticed a similar handle to yours as the only other bidder. That you? Red trike broken rear wheel (and unattached pedal it turns out when I went to pick it up tonight)...
  22. Twin pipes out da bonnet would be rad, but more going for a 'tidy modern slightly bogon but otherwise sleeper' thing. Got the second wastegate pipe done, hope these flow OK I wanna be a cheapskate and buy the smaller gates (40mm), but will be a pain in the ass not to have spent the extra and have it creep... Opening is nicely teardropped but still might not be enough whaddyas reckon?
  23. Tasteful tuned length chinese pipes sounds worth it. How fast you been on the tall bike? Bet it's a long way down in the corners
