  1. Man I wish I had that kinda undercover space. But I know I'd just fill it with crap. Would have to be very disciplined about how i used it
  2. Heh, we are just looking at somewhere else to move at the moment cause our tenancy runs out soon. Need a bigger garage. That doesnt leak.
  3. You just worry about your non-going car(s) and i'll worry about mine Actually mine still goes.
  4. I believe that is pretty much the right amount of slam. But from a WOF point of view, probably not. So this has just got an N/A L20 in it right? (I know you have told me this before but I have a mind like a sieve). If you come across a turbo and manifolds you dont want, let me know... edit: ah I just re-read it, l28e. Got it.
  5. Cool. This immediately reminded me of an episode of Monster Garage that I saw ages ago. It was a high school special and they made a motorised shopping cart. Someone screwed up by making it fixed rear axle and it couldn't turn circles lol - something to think about (especially since it looks like all your weight will be over the rear wheels) Also, I hope you acquired the trolley via legitimate methods Legend has it that that are really expensive for supermarkets to replace.
  6. lol have changed thread title. Im aware I would have to pay RUC, but im more interested in the process of changing the vehicle class to be diesel instead of petrol and the implications on the price it may have being that it qualifies for classic reg.
  7. yes, that is RUC which makes sense... but what about stangard registration costs, cause in its current state as a 40 year old car it is like $120 per year. But is there a diesel vintage class? or?
  8. yes right you are, a churbro would probably be the go.
  9. An idea I have been toying with, probably wont ever eventuate to anything. There are obviously different vehicle licencing classes for diesel vs. petrol, so I assume when undertaking a diesel conversion on a petrol car then you go through a process of changing it to a diesel class. Anyone been through this? What about on a car that is 40 years old? Is there a difference between classic petrol vs. classic diesel class? A couple other q's: There are a few cheap LD28s on the tard at the moment. Would the power decrease be too much between say an L24 (96kW) and a LD28 (67kW). Or since it is diesel with more torque, would it be OK. And were all column change boxes created equal? For example, if you got a TD27 column change box out of a Nissan van (5 speed) and connected it up the factory linkages, would you magically be able to engage the other gears on the factory shifter?
  10. I understand heat soak... hence the reference to the spike in temperature after you turn off the engine. But there is no flow if you have a mechanical water pump, so all you are doing really is cooling the radiator. I guess it could in theory help prevent too much pressure in the system or something, because even though he coolant isnt "flowing" it should in theory all be the same pressure, as it is a closed loop.
  11. On the topic of electric fans.... I never really understood why some people leave their fans running for a while after they have turned off the car. Surely if the engine isnt running, then the coolant isnt being pumped through the engine and therefore all you are doing is cooling down the radiator? Unless there is some kind of convection effect cycling the water, or if you had an electric water pump or something. Or perhaps it has some minor effect that stops the temperature from spiking as soon as you turn off the engine. Are these people just idiots or am I missing something
  12. Tuesday? Am not home till about 9pm monday. Think micheal is back tuesday or wednesday also
  13. lol go round to my house and dismantle the interior of my parts car if you want. Its sitting in the carport. All my tools are locked up unfortunately, so you would need a few spanners and screwdrivers. Will pay you head, back on Monday night.
  14. I was considering an EV conversion, on my old viva, would be pretty much perfect for it because of being so light. But I doubt you would get much change from $10k. Not really cheap and theres heaps of stuff that could go wrong and cost $$$$. Plus people are still strugging to get a decent KM range out of EVs.
  15. Hmm, I know the feeling yeod. The dastun wagon does roughly the same, 13.5 l/100km. The rental car i've been driving over the last week averages 6.1 L / 100km, just crazyness. Man it would be sweet if it wasnt in such a girly shell. At the end of the day factor in the time and cost into the decision, eg. if the coversion costs $3000 to get from 13 L / 100km down to 8 L / 100km consumption then it would take like 90 tanks of gas to pay itself off (saving $35 each time you filled up).... thats about 4 years of driving for the average road user.
  16. Yea its a bit weird. They never used to have that high security fence heh. One of my friends got in trouble for taunting the prisoners, running up and down banging on the fence haha
  17. Lots of big industry down in Invercargill. Just a shame it's so isolated from the rest of NZ. Weather gets a pretty bad rep but I don't think it's as bad as people make out. (except at this very moment by the sounds!) Go for a hoon along oreti beach. Always good for a laugh.
  18. Heh I am not down there at the moment, back on Mon night. Mike is also away, he at bathurst. In fact lately I seem to spend more time away from Invercargill then in Invercargill
  19. hmm, do you think I should dig it out? haha Did consider stripping off the filler to have a look but then that would just mean re-doing it lol. Did you give the inside of the sill a bit of a spray with something?
  20. yeah, you're probably right. There has been oil coming from somewhere and the wind from the fan has been dispersing it all over the engine bay - free rust proofing? I'll see if the one off the spare L24 is any better.
  21. roger that, thanks for the heads up! will have to investigate further. Its hard to say if it is actually leaking round there. I will fix the other leaks and re-evaluate
  22. yeah, shits getting done steelies, but im sure the likes of yourself is cringing at some of the repairs But like I said, good enough for an amateur like myself. Not afraid of a bit of bog as long as there is metal underneath
  23. yes and no, mainly inside the sills, inside the edges of the roof, and at the bottom of the doors on the inside. Previous paintjob was a bit of a coverup unfortunately, but oh well. It is 40 years old.
