  1. What a cop out! How long can it possibly take to replace a single ball joint? Shit, even if you have to get it from Japan you could manage Besides, is it terminally spat out, or just clunky/drivable? Harden up Do you need a hand? Urr, not to harden up!!!
  2. ute has heaps and wont squat - I promise not to hit it on purpose too! 60 wont be enough for that huge old thing. on second thoughts, you do it Fred.
  3. Bugger! Last time you and I had this problem is recorded right here : That slide continued perfectly balanced all the way through the corner! We all need to buy you a camera and use it to film me doing a burnout ON the old one Hmmm, someone said it with those words while milling around the bonnet fairly early on. I wonder who it was?
  4. Sometimes I want to kill my father. Like right now. I just found 2 of my four brand new iridium plugs (30 bucks + each) outside, on a bench, covered in rust and sawdust. Wonderful. He's in hospital right now, so I could just wish that it all goes wrong, but that seems like an unfair advantage. Chris, I think you had better come and feel what it's like on 4 cylinders. Late one sun/mon/tues/wed night when it hasn't rained for a day or so, and we'll go give it a bit of shit again. Fred.
  5. You both must've said it, I guess. Pretty sure Ben said pretty much exactly what I quoted. Still, I'll accept your told you so as well Still need to test the theory with a new plug or 4, but will have to wait a bit for that. Fred.
  6. Good news, didn't do a leak down test, but compression is an even 220psi across all four cyls and all four ign coils work, and all four ignitors work, and 3 of the spark plugs work, oh, wait... Anyone got any Denso PK20R (11) plugs undropped, unmodified (ungapped) and pulled out of a running engine that I could have??? They come stock in the black top 4age and probably dozens of other vehicles too. Similar plat or iridium denso/ngk plugs are also acceptable, but set of four would be best if different. Slacker Cam may have some, will find out soon PS, Ben, I'll happily accept your "I told you so" when you are ready. (It was you that said "it cold be ign related" right?) Sorry for ignoring you Fred.
  7. Thanks! Glad you enjoyed it. The burger was pretty fucking good too! That's 3 years old and although it doesn't suck too much, I need to do better. A for effort, C for achievement there. LOLOLOL, I had a few squirts, but nothing too bad. It still drives OK even as rooted as it is. I got into some corners in third where it went something like: 5k - 7500, brake, steer, repeat - and it felt good Still idling on 3, though Did you miss the rivets and silicone that hold the intercooler plumbing together? Thanks I love the way the tail/brake lights light up the smoke LOL Fair call. Woops, if you'd said "wait, the batteries!!" I would have Thanks for having me, 'twas a fun night and thanks again for the feed, Chris, most appreciated! Fred. PS, the owner of this and this was there, did anyone even notice??? : Ultra good bastad! or GC as you guys tend to say
  8. Keen to come, but there are a few issues: I spent ALL of my last bit of money on Toluene/fuel for the ute. I have fuck all fuel in my old beater so I'll have to drive the ute if I come. I got 30 mins sleep last night after epic mission to pick up mate from airport in ute. So, you bastards should throw a dollar each into a can for a bastard burger for me and I'll provide the toluene. Ute performance can not be guaranteed today, though. I have an HLA that is not happy so sometimes it runs on 3... it will still do 180 on 3 though LOL Thoughts? Too tin arse to describe? Or so dedicated to the cause of cars that he deserves a burger for his efforts? Fred.
  9. More remote control burnouts assisted by the spanker : As long as the brakes still sorta work I'll be happy enough Fred.
  10. I don't have this in my possession yet, but these should be shipped to NZ at some point in the nearish future. The will allow me more room to use a larger filter and/or adapters and what have you for oil cooling if I end up needing it. As it stands I can't fit a ryco Z150 in there because the steering shaft is too close with the bigger OEM oil cooler/heat exchanger. The Z150 (SA fram/filpro ph2979a) is standard fitment on another F engine with exactly the same journal sizing and oil pump setup and thus perfect for this application according to both the OEM and myself. I had enough trouble getting a Z148 (not Z148x which is small and shitty) on there as it's fairly tight even with at 120mm long, let alone the nice big 150x80 unit. That will be arriving in the same box with the cam gears I can't wait! Fred.
  11. Cheers guys What is an "FF" thread? I think he is signed up on here. The "shit tin" ,as he calls it, has been somewhat stagnant for a while. It ran, went well, and so the itch struck again. He's been working flat out on the supra project for a while, see here : http://www.lextreme.com/forums/showthread.php?t=9165 (login required i think) DAMN it... just slept in a bit... till 5pm. there goes any chance of a new release of FreeEMS today... Fred.
  12. Firstly, line locks are gay, just cook up the rear pads... if you have the power. Secondly, I added a mandatory comment to that video. I may have been more kind about that sohc pos fe engine, but you failed to link me this vid after I asked specifically for it. The only detail I got wrong was the colour and all real men know that the colour of the car is totally irrelevant!!! Slacker... This is the vid I was talking about when I said cosmo/929 in the wops in the dark! LOL. Thirdly, your TODO list doesn't include "FreeEMS EFI setup" Lastly, to readers, the man has many talents. Among them is a love of midgets... And python too... Fred.
  13. For the record, that ute has ALWAYS had a hinged rear plate, simply hung from some wire. It's better when you back into shit because it doesn't break. Anything else is a bonus. Also for the record, the reverse lights are primarily for reversing (duh!) Again, anything else is a bonus (eg lighting up a party in a field or something). Bumpy Bumpy : I now own a van It's in NZ and I'm in the UK, but I still managed a burnout The van comes with 5 studs and disk brake rear end, so those bits will be going on the ute and the van to the dump Obvious benefits to 5 studs include easy Monster front rotor choice, easy wheel choice, both of those cheap too. Disk brake rear = less work. The stock brakes were getting WAY too hot even with 700C race pads, and I hadn't really pushed them hard. In other news I also own a pair of these : Should help skew the power curve towards the top end a bit Enjoy! Fred.

    Injectors

That's the main thing Because most other places don't reflect true ground potential. Esp in jap cars dashes with every man and his dog grounded randomly on the framework. Worst ECU earth in a jappa = dash frame work. The man is 110% right and I'm insisting that the guy designing my ECU hardware does the same thing for the same reasons. However, the sensors should be floating at the engine. What you want is a good ground from the ecu to the block/battery and then individual grounds to all things that are isolated like sensors from the ecu. But, why are your sensors grounded? They should be grounded at the ECU. What you don't wanna do is make a ground loop out of it. What you have sounds good anyway, so don't worry. Fred.
  15. Spare me a little sympathy will ya? It'll have been 2 years with one burnout, one track day, and one mountain pass. That's the least dangerous stuff I've ever done in a 2 year period. I'll be needing to do some major catch up and anyone that is willing will be involved. Hopefully the first stage of that will be a TT V8 Supra picking me up from the airport! Looking forward to more pics of her. Fred.
  16. I didn't read the thread, but anyone considering doing an SC/turbo project should strongly consider building one of these instead : If I can't get my ute sliding how I want it to, I'll be trying that as the next step. Fred.
  17. Right now I'd kill for a job like that.'I'm in the middle of 3 projects that all finish about the same time and I have to keep the usually shit running Yeah, collecting garbage would be great, working with tibco business works designer when you are a genuine software developer on the other hand is just insulting and painful no matter how much cash is involved. Seriously thinking of resigning ey. Packing into the tube trains in the morning is also great sport and really helps the suit stay unsweaty... fuck london sucks 1 month down 11 to go, back in NZ in 1 year!!! Is your super rotary kit air based? The bearings in the front of dremels do not last if you try any porting with them. OK for touch ups, waste of time for serious work. I bought an air tool shortly before leaving and it was the best money I ever spent on a tool. Can't find a pic of it, but it was a little red one in a little case bought from wairau engineering. Fred.
  18. Sweet car man I look forward to taking a ride in it at some point!

    Injectors

Agreed! ^ good advice. Disagreed! The ECU should only be grounded to two places : 1) The block/head 2) The battery post Not anywhere else. Ever.
  20. You'd have to get them over 700C to fade. Not gunna happen on street rubber on the street with less than 300hp or so I second, third, fourth and fifth the Mintex FTW comment (one for each car I've tried them on)
  21. Do you have any pics of the mounts?
  22. Hi Fred! Yeah I'm a sucker for punishment The few alloy heads I've done feels like butter compaired to the cast iron I'm used to No no, I was serious, it's SO easy to screw an ally head up, whereas the process would naturally be more gradual and controlled with steel. If they are both 8 valve then there is no big reason why there should be. No big reason, but the valve train alone is a good reason : Lower mass and intertia = lower spring rates for same lift/ramps = lower friction/wasted energy. Plus, this also means that you can make it rev hard reliably more easily. Rockers are just nasty, and that includes modern engines with them like the sr20. Sorry I took so long on the reply, some silly bastard decided to pay me a bunch to sit in a high rise in London and do SFA. Shit is it boring. I'd rather be.... collecting peoples garbage I think.
  23. Dip shits one and two. Look at the title of the thread. He says ignition ECU, not dizzy. Just look at the entire possible range of adjustability of a dizzy setup. Then look at the optimum shape of an ignition curve for ANY engine, let alone a boosted carby engine and you will quickly see that it is chalk and cheese. No personal hands on experience required! Just half a brain and a half decent attitude Shame to see you aren't up to speed vvvv EFI, over rated, HA HA HA LOL ROFL ROTFLMAO etc. forced, build me a 1000hp carby dizzy turbo 2.0 8 valve engine and get back to me on EFI being over rated
  24. Cool Porting a steel head must be such fun
