Turns out that if you plug all the plugs back in everything magically works. Strange. So sorted the changing issue and put the front of the car back together. Still can’t 100% find source of oil leak (ran up to temp and no leak), but will keep an eye on that fizzing at the bung is an understatement, bring on wag nats!

So it was actually a long storey to get to this point.... Fuel issues appeared to just be lack of sufficient bleeding and battery needing a proper charge so got that sorted. Then got it running briefly but then the cam belt tensioner slipped and the belt spun. So refittied that with some bigger looking bits off the iron final motor (for the tensioner). Got it running again only to be greeted by a intermittent but viscous knocking noise. Called in the heavy hitters (master mechanic Al Borland) who suggested it might be diesel knock from dodgy injectors, and this was supported bu the noise going away instantly when cracking the injector line on one of the cylinders. So we replaced that injector with one from the old motor and hey presto, no noise. Then it started knocking again but we traced it to a different cylinder, so said fuck it let’s just swap the lot of them. Which we did, and this seems to have done the trick. Couple of test runs up and down the road and no dramas. so next up is figure out why the alternator isn’t charging, track down a oil leak (looks like rocket cover gasket), piece the rest of the front of the car back together, and do something about the exhaust (currently nothing). Was going to just get someone to tie the turbo into the factory system (it’s in the right place) but after hearing it with no exhaust I don’t think that will cut it so perhaps just a simple single muffler setup and a bigger diameter pipe. Again, huge thanks to joe and al for their help (and JB the other night)

Yeh the second is the inlet, the first is the return. Top marks. Will pop them off as well and have a nosey. Cheers!

I do appreciate your concern however, its wouldn't have been the first time I've done something stupid.

I had the master mechanic round last night (seedy al) and this is what we concluded so it’s not just me being a nupty. We bleed it up to the pump but bugger all coming out the other end. Checked it was getting voltage to the solenoid etc and tried a jump wire as well but no change.
-
So turns out the injector pump isn’t doing it’s job and is only spitting out miserable amounts of the go go juice so something isn’t quite right. Going to try swapping over the fuel cut solenoid from the other pump to see if it’s the culprit. Plenty of fuel getting to it, just not out of it

Haha good to know. Maybe I’ll bolt it all back in on a rainy day/who am I kidding.

Still have this, just did a ~2600km trip down south over two weeks, was super legit. Van is a champ (other than its petrol consumption), no dramas at all. Has been pimped out a bit further since the last photos, including fake veneer flooring, set of drawers, and some legit curtains.

Had a sudden rush of motivation after getting back from a lush 2 week road trip down south (mostly as I'm sit of this hunk of crap block the garage haha), but also wagnats. Fitted starter, motor alternator (including all oil plumbing), power steering pump Plugged all the mystery wires back in. Plumbed in injector pump Swapped over lame ass rocker cover for the original one. Filled with oil. Had a crack at starting it, but cant get it to fire. I know little about diesels so not really sure on where to start.... In addition in actually making it work, also need to get a shorter belt for the alternator as I'm not longer running an A/C compressor (it never worked). If I can get it to start, then ill move on and chuck the front of the car back on and the radiator etc. No pics, because it all looks pretty much the same Discussion/help

Wellington Monthly Meet - Discussion thread
Beaver replied to KKtrips's topic in Lower North Island Region
My week has turned to custard so marginal at this stage if I’ll make it (getting on a boat on Friday) -
It wont rain. Just dont break down this time haha So looks like it might just be me on the midday convoy.... @KKtrips is about the only person I haven't heard from who I think would make it. Ill still be at the weighbridge at 12 regardless, an head out like a loner if no one shows. I'll probably go bush for an hour or two once I get there, so for those that rock up later on, just look for the shitty white hiace van (if no-one else is there)

Do autolign not shorten them anymore themselves? Ive had a couple of sets done through them, (both in CHCH an wellington). Pretty sure they just send them up to Auckland. Alternatively, our resident expert Manu @Steelies has done this for me in the past and may be interested in offering his services.
