  1. When? Sunday 16 april. Whats happening? Drive your interesting vehicle for about 1.5 hrs to a nice park with lots of trees, have yarns, eat foods. Where do we meet, and where are we going? meet at 10.45am, at the carpark near AA Meadowlands, in Howick. We will leave there at 11am, drive to Whitford, past Beachlands, through Maraetai, around the coast through to Clevedon, from there head out to Kawakawa Bay, then to Whaharau Regional Park. Who can come? If youre reading this, you can come. The idea is to have a fun relaxed day so if you want to bring someone whos not on OS, thats fine if they fit the usual OS member vibe, ie not a dickhead. Bring your significant other, or your kids. The cruise will be at normal speeds, its not a race. Everyone should drive in a way that represents OS in a positive manner, both on the road and in the park itself. What car can i bring? If its interesting to you, bring it. Theres no rules on what you can or cant bring. Bikes are also welcome. What else should i bring? Something to eat, some chilled beverages, a folding chair would be a good idea. There will be a bbq available to burn snags with, a gazebo, and a table for buttering your white bread on What if it rains? youll get wet. If its real unpleasant then there will be a rain date. If it gets postponed, this thread will be where you find out. See you there!
  2. This is what I would recommend. I wouldn't do any repair work until the repair cert guy has had a look
  3. Yeah thats ond of the worst "old wives tales" of the cert world, it might be an australian thing where it has to exit 12 inches past the last opening window or something like that. Its never been an actual rule here CCM=
  4. Would the increased VE be offset by more friction/weight slinging extra pistons and valves etc around ?
  5. There may be special events that can have an exemption to hold an event on a closed road with unregistered vehicles,i dunno how youd find out about that Rally cars are usually cert/wof/reg so they can travel between stages,if there was anyone who could ever figure out a way to circumvent those requirements,it would be a rally car person....
  6. As far as i know Authority card is only to cover the fact the car has a cage/harness/other stuff you wouldnt usually be allowed in a road car Log book is to keep track of events, details of cage, race classification etc. If the car goes on the road = needs to be registered and wof. I dont think theres any way around that
  7. I saw someone suggest a race class called 'mermaids' to make use of some of the flooded unregisterables that will be around, that made me lol
  8. A dishonest person would clean it and write the chassis code on it with a paint pen to make it look like a recently replaced one from a wrecker Good thing i dont know any dishonest people though.
  9. Cool pic, left to right=the navara was mine, green courier was Mat from the drop shop, next hilux was hoods one, last one was owned by Seb, he was a gc ,he passed away a few years back. His hilux always had a rattly timing chain,my dog could recognize the sound of it when it turned up in the driveway haha
  10. I havent been to the night drags for aaaages , last minute i decided to go. Cbf with friday traffic in the plymouth, and ive wanted to see what the bike is capable of since i got it Best i did was 12.3@110 I was yarning to a guy who has the same bike but his has done a heap of hard kms He was interested to see what mine was like compared to his, so he did a pass on my bike, 11.8@116 The difference was,hes not a fatty, ha
  11. if its a big effort to fit, have to cut the car up etc, may as well fit a 3.5 version?
  12. Needs cert. Basically anything other than buying a set of springs that are a bolt in ,needs cert. Reset oe springs are not ideal,as you are reducing travel, but not increasing rate to deal with the reduced travel. Usually the idea is if you are reducing travel, then using a higher rate spring is preferred otherwise it will end up soft, and bouncing off the bumpstops
  13. done it a couple of times on navaras because the front spring eye is mounted down below the chassis rail. if done neatly you might get away with it technically does require cert though However you have to be careful of pinion angle change if you do one end only if you do only one end, the drop you get will only be approx half of the change you make to the shackle or spring mount, ie if you shortened the shackle 30mm it would only drop it about 15mm like nominal said, you would have to be careful that shortening the shackle doesnt cause the spring to hit the chassis as the shackle goes thru its travel. from what i can remember of what a hilux spring mount looks like, i would think it would be more hassle than its worth tbh
  14. The 318 in my vg has been in there for 8? years I had the block decked 40thou and the heads 10 so the intake fannymold didn't bolt up properly/at all the gaskets were left on the bench , used that good grey rtv on the water jackets and ends of the block, and blue hylomar on the intake ports and its been mint, bolted up perfect without the gaskets
  15. Yep. Nothing fancy, waterblasted underneath and sprayed it with some matt black bunnings enamel. It had some surface rust that needed hiding er i mean fixing
  16. Fully restored underbody with some rejuvenation spray Got some small car barrying this morning, stopped to get a coffee and parked next to a k11 which looked ginormous next to this thing I walked out and a dude sitting outside started sharning about; how his k11 looked big it had a 1000cc motor , and i had 12 inch tyres so that must be cheap, his has 13s is it a 800cc? Whoa 660cc that must be good on fuel, oh its an auto? My brother has a manual one cool
  17. It's registered as a passenger car/van, so MA class. It's on carjam You can also follow this flow chart
  18. Cheers How long should a hard drive last? It shit the bed once and I lost everything on it in December 19, it was only 3 years old at the time had a new one fitted then, I wondered if that might be happening again
  19. More computer questions sorry My laptop does this sometimes and takes aaaaaaaages Last time I thought it was broken because it was stuck like this for a few hours but it eventually worked, I deleted a million files and it made it work faster , figured it took ages because it hadn't been connected to internet for 6 months so had a lot of updates to do This morning it's been slow as again, restarted it and it's been blue screen for about an hour Why the thing do that?
  20. a couple of thoughts on your drawing it may make life easier to use a triangulated 4 bar rather than a tri upper link. the reason for that is LVVTA does not allow threaded rod ends to be used when there is a bending load on the threads, unless the joint is rated for the load. i have been part of a discussion on this and the solution suggested was quite involved and required a lot of engineering for it to work. there are other ways of doing it but its probably easier to run 2 seperate straight bars you can download the CCM free from lvvta.org.nz have a read of the suspension chapter there is a bit of info in there on link suspension. you will need to run rod ends/spherical bearings/heim joints for your upper bars at least if using a triangulated 4 bar, bushes have too much deflection unless using similar angles to a factory vehicle ie top bars at 90deg to each other- which wouldnt work well for air suspension. your forward crossmember will likely need triangulating back to the chassis as the loading is in the middle, that's why the narrow end is usually at the diff on a factory setup. top bars look like they would hit the bag mounts at full extension unless you mount the bars high now is the time to figure out what youre going to do long term, if its going to have an engine swap or 5 stud swap or anything like that, need to factor things like that in. you dont want to build a suspension that is ok with a stock z24 but then swap in something with more beans later that then has terrible axle tramp or handling problems hope this helps, been there and fucked it up myself haha
  21. This guy has some interesting videos on suspension stuff
  22. Network security key when setting up a printer. This is the password on the card that comes with the modem, yes? Can get everything else to work on wifi with this , but not the printer
  23. I had a navara a million years ago that was bagged, same diff as you have. I did a parallel 4 bar with a panhard Panhard is not ideal but if you set it up right theres not a huge amount of movement, obviously watts link would be better.
  24. Was just minding my business and this follwed me home from @RX FORD's workshop I have no need for it but when has that ever stopped anyone? 660cc of twin cam carburetted 3 cylinder, transferring all its fury through an auto gearbox. It actually goes better than id expected it would, and despite being comically small,it has plenty of interior room even for a generously proportioned gentleman such as myself im not sure what ill do with it but ill tidy a few things up,get a wof and maybe some slam/wheels. My daughter has claimed it already, shes 11 so a way off needing a car but i found a big empty carpark and she had a driving lesson
