  1. If you hadn't ever driven the car before then take a look at the trim around the screens and windows - a slightly loose trim will vibrate and hum at speed - but I would have thought it would not go away over 110kmph. Could be nothing to do with the lowering - or it still could be the front alignment. Hard thing to diagnose without being in the car.
  2. Understood - perhaps there are three different variants? I will be in touch late Thursday if we can help out. Peace.
  3. I think we are talking about different Subaru diff heads. The Viscous one we were working on loast Wednesday night did not have stub axles but it was the female spline we needed to remove. The clutch pack Subaru LSDs seem to have stub axles so that is the correct place for us to start with the datsun conversion (we have one now) There were no washers in the planetary gears (that I saw) in the V-LSD as I pulled it apart last week. Perhaps the washers are only fitted to the Clutch LSD? I will be down at the shed again on Wednesday night for light refreshments so will have a better look for you - The chances of my mate using the V-LSD are slim so if the washers show up you are probably going to get them............... not up to me of course but the owner is a good white trash bogan.
  4. You will feel an out of balance driveshaft long before you hear it I think. Did the problem start immediately after you lowered the car and does the 'hum' change pitch with increased road speed ?
  5. Perhaps my Litace was different because it was a factory 4X4 flatbed. I only say they use the same nugget as the diff nugget in the rear of my one had "Surf" written on it in white pen - like the previous owner has replaced it with one from a wreckers. It could be that I am 92% full of shit - or possibly even more than 92%. Peace boes. Got to finish up some work
  6. I used to have a Toyota Liteace truck. Tiny wee thing but it was a 4WD and used Surf/Hilux diff nuggets but had 14inch five stud wheels (same PCD as Falcon). The Litace came out in a van of course and there are zillions of them at Pick-A-Part so perhaps run a tape over one Westcort (this could all be in the link provided but I have not clicked it yet - I was just finking oot lawd
  7. Hilux is probably your best bet - but they are a bit wide I think
  8. Bloody hell - what am I saying!? The diff head does not belong to me so I better not be giving bits away until I ask the owner (he should be good with it though)
  9. I have done a bit of interweb reading and it looks like we are attempting this conversion with the wrong Subaru LSD We have a viscous LSD and it looks like we need a clutch pack LSD and a slight modification to the half shafts. Should be easy! Cubastreet - I didn't notice the conical washers when I pressed out the planetary gear layshaft last night but I will have another look and they are yours if I can find them dude.
  10. This is going to be a little hard to explain without photos - but a friend is trying to put a rear LSD out of a 90's Subaru into his 1972 Datsun 1600. We have the diff heads side by side and they are almost identical - should be easy. The Datsun half shafts are held into the Datsun diff head by a single bolt that fixes to a steel retaining disc (with a female thread for the aformentioned bolt) just inside the spider gears. The Subaru unit does not have these retaining discs so the half shafts would just fall out (the Datsun shafts are telescopic). We pulled apart the Subaru unit last night and fitted the Datsun retaining disc to one side of it real easy but to fit the Datsun retaining disc to the other side of the Subaru diff required getting the female splines out of the actual LSD nugget (the sealed cylindrical bit). I had 11 beers and could not work it out so I got taken home. How the heck do I get the spplines out of the LSD nugget (if that is what it is called) without rooting it? Ta muchly boes.............
  11. EA Falcon FI setup is craparolla (but I figure you know that). Just one injector from memory. The EA2 S Pac or Fairmonts had the multipoint injection - but perhaps you are looking for single point? The multipoint engines have WAY more power. I had a 1991 5 speed manual S Pac in 1992 (I is old)
  12. 2.06!!! That is flying for an oldschool road car man. Big ups to you.
  13. P.S. - I reckon single sidedraft on a raod car is a seriously good idea
  14. A bicycle brake (or gear) cable and a bit of fabrication for the anchor point normally gets what you already have sorted. Sadly I can't show you any pics but the trick is to get it adjustable and so that it does not bind (as well a WOT of course)
  15. That is well cool. Personally I think the wheels on it look great as they are. That FWD style offset gives it more competition cred IMHO Three blow jobs on a single licence plate must be a record?
  16. ^^^ It is good to see someone else builds high performance braking systems whilst getting pissed.
  17. Great advice. Solid rotors are so much lighter than vented too. I use solids on the race car and don't usually have issues unless the pads are about two thirds worn - and then they can't get rid of the heat. I don't use a booster either - and if I did it would only be for the fronts
  18. Sikaflex = a good brand of silicone based sealant
  19. That baby is screaming for a two door coversion - what a shame it would be so ridiculously expensive. I have never seen one before and the rear roofline is fantastic. Oarsum car
  20. The front flares are hacked off a Corolla KE70 front and the rear flares are modified front guards from a Mk4 Cortina. The bulge was hand beaten into the Mk4 donor steel and then welded in place (after tubbing the rear wheel wells and catting away the Mk1 steel) A thickish coat of bog was required to get them dead right as there was a bit of shrinkage involved and lots of distortion in the Mk1 guards. Not a small job I am afraid.............
  21. Most of it came from Mercedes (I just rocked up to the local dealer's spare parts section) and other stuff I got from eBay. There is always someone selling off new old stock W11 crap in Germany and most of them Zpeaken der English and are bloody helpfull
  22. The Aussies are right into fitting Volvo rotors and calipers but I am not certain what model or if they are bigger than the 245mm rotors you are currently thinking about.
  23. Awsome - I will look into Gorrila then. Thanks.
