  1. Theres a set of 15inch superlites on trademe. Right stud pattern and everything. Im quite tempted tho and Darren has his eye on them too

  3. Oh wait, the LCA mount is removable - well thats not so bad then. Might just need a new subframe or something relatively simple like that
  4. I'd say its a pretty good suggestion. Repairing chassis damage that bad will most likely be more than the cars worth. Slammed my old wagon into a curb - needed new LCA and was good to go, learned the hard way AWD Hondas dont drift well
  5. My 32/36 uses an oval shape in the middle. Theres nothing substantially important in the middle of the carb so an open oval wont cause any issues. 99% of adapter plates for this carb use an open oval too.
  6. Cant get my head around this. Mostly because im excellent at technical shit, but i suck massive dong at anything involving creativity. Basically the new gearbox uses a mount in a different place to where the crossmember is on the car. Have attached a technical drawing i made earlier. Yellow is the current crossmember location. Green is where the mount would be for this gearbox. Plan A is to make a small adapter so i can use the mounts off the old gearbox and bolt them onto the side of the new gearbox in the right places for the EA71 crossmember. Cant easily move the crossmember rearwards. There are some bolts on the gearbox near where the mounts need to go so should be fairly easy to fold up a piece of steel to attach to those bolts and then bolt the old mounts to it.
  7. Pictures for Africa coming up. Shows the good, the highly average and all of the rust i need to repair. Comments welcome on how gay the rust is/could be
  8. Liking the new wheels. Got a new rust free door. Got the throttle linkage sorted. Got some headers. Fitted the alternator. Finished plumbing up the coolant system. Now shitting myself because the next job is rust repair. And in that area i have no expertise and have only ever had bad experiences. Just needing some adapters for the gearbox mounts, a clutch cable and an exhaust before i can take it for a fang.
  9. Found these on facebook. Lol'd me;
  10. Hence why im so damned keen to do the cannonball run in movie theme of cannonball run movie
  11. Most of the yanks seem to lift them and off road them - so not much slammage;
  12. Update: Mustve done something right. Quite surprised how well it started and idled considering id never seen the engine run before and the carb came off a dusty shelf covered in shit where it had sat for a few years. Big thankyou to MadMike for giving the carb a kick in the guts and a thankyou to Joker for....well for stuff. Now have even more motivation to get more shit finished on the car! Needs an exhaust next.
  13. Finally got the carb mostly hooked up. Have sourced a good 32/36 which ive been assured came off a running car. Got a few concerns as well - still not entirely sure if the intake manifold is going to seal against the head well enough. The heads are fuel injected ones so have a recess for injectors in each port. The carb manifold only just covers this. Also i had to use quite a thick rubber gasket for the coolant passages on the intake as it sat a few mm away from the block even when bolted down. So I wont be too surprised when i get massive vacuum leaks - but ill cross that bridge later. Got a little bit of rust to sort out - but after talking to coldspark at the palmy meet, it cant be as bad as his project! Also need to get the crossmember for the gearbox sorted and then its a lot of small annoying jobs left to do like a custom clutch cable and a pusher radiator fan. Heres a pic. /wall of text
  14. Worth the trip, discovered Carlsberg is a bit weak.
  15. Got the intake back from the shop today. Will have it on the motor with the carb fitted up by the end of the night. Just need to do some plumbing on the weekend and get some headers and she should start. Getting excited. On the list of shit left to do; Sort out a rear mount for the gearbox Build an exhaust Fit a tacho and temp gauge
  16. Doing Palmy - Tauranga on the 12th. Is the motor complete or just a block?
  17. Ah yup. Cheers eke. Got a coil off a Piazza i think. That should do the job im guessing?
  18. I picked up a coil from a 1992 Brumby (electronic ignition) which had a resistance of 2ohm on the primary winding. My current coil also has a 2ohm resistance there but has another 2ohms added when including the ballast. Can i just remove the ballast from my current coil and save myself $120?
  19. Any way to tell apart a ballast resisted coil? The original coil has a small white block on the bracket that one of the leads pass through. The distributor seems to have the ignitor inside it. The distributor has vacuum advance to sort out the ignition curve. Distributor is off a Subaru EJ18 motor.
  20. Original motor had points ignition and my new one uses a hall effect/optical pickup inside the distributor. Theres also a big chunky transistor thing in there that im assuming uses the low current signal from the sensor to switch the coil. Do i need to change my coil or do any other fancy wiring here? Dont really want to fry my shiny new distributor. Cost me $50 that did!
  21. Tempted but hatch is in pieces still...not to mention lack of plates or wof. Would look like a right cunt rolling in the legacy
  22. Last year he did best of 2 runs but allowed me to change exhausts and do another 2 runs. Discovered that my $80 supercheap auto tip lost me 8kw compared to my corazon chambered muffler
  23. Well it took me 2 months but i finally got there. Now have this; Pretty tight fit but it does fit with no need for hammertime Thanks to Strong for Subaru first sending me a 220mm clutch/flywheel when i asked for a 200mm one. They still sent me a 190mm to replace it with and i couldnt be arsed messing around anymore so just fitted that. Waiting on an ignitor and a carb next. Looking for a weber 32/36DGV or a Holley 350cfm. After that I just need to get the gearbox mount made up and build an exhaust for it. Then comes time to stick it in the weeds
  24. Got the custom friction plate, then discovered that the pressure plate was very tight inside the bell housing and the release bearing didnt fit. So i have had to bin the idea of a 2.0l clutch and am going to source a 1.6 flywheel for the engine. Carb still hasnt turned up after the courier lost it, so am hunting for a new one. Daily driver needs to be certed for its wof due this week. Massive pain in the arse.
  25. Weekend was mostly a disaster, engine is still on garage floor. The EJ22 clutch plate doesnt fit the input shaft of the EJ16. So am waiting for a custom plate to arrive (possibly organic). Then its game on.
