  1. hi all. I'm not far off getting my cortina shell blasted and it's a decent amount of cash. there are some other bits and Bob's that I will want to do as time goes on so I have been looking at alternatives like a sandblaster from trade me. .. this one https://www.trademe.co.nz/1925653916 this one looks like they have fixed a few issues .like using a dead man hand piece. BUT are they any good....... I do have a big compressor so the air isn't an issue.. I k ow doing a full shell is a big ask but I could do it in segments and repair rust as I go.. thoughts please.....
  2. mate I learnt agers ago fucking around with blocks .....just order long ubolts and make blocks to fit the drop you want..
  3. holy shit its about time you did some work on this mate. looks good tho...are you still using the head Simon did?
  4. as I type that I also realise I may have all those bits sitting in the garage still as I never finished that rear end.
  5. looks good mate so glad you stuck with the ITBs. as for the disc and calipers I can't comment on the mondao ones. but I do have a set of mondao steel wheels but I'm also away for 5 days. but I did a lot of searching for rear discs and calipers for escort/cortina and came up with 2000 for focus discs nd calipers.. got discs .calipers handbrake and handbteak cables from.pick apart.. I also managed to fit a escort steel wheel on with no spacers ...
  6. starved of air from the factory. put some headers on it (if it doesn't all ready) that will help it breath. and weld the diff
  7. thought i would have a play with falcon TFI dizzy i had that came with all the injection bits i bought. only wanted was the hall effect as a trigger for the ecu and also for the oil pump. so pulled it a part cleaned it up and cut the top off and capped it...rebuilt with a new plug.......good to go
  8. just a quick update motor is almost done ..just need to sort the throttle linkage (pretty much sussed) injectors (might get the factory ones cleaned or go later model) spark (going coil on plug from a later model) and last but not least headers ........going to make from scratch . apart from that Hydroprint Hq here in nz did the rocker cover and trumpets for me and i love it.
  9. fuck masking up a wheel ... I normally paint them in with a small paint brush and black paint. ps should have gone darker man lol
  10. I might get it done then lol. I am pretty shit
  11. might have the motor ready ....lol.hopfully get the shell blasted start of new year
  12. They have had the same problem with them when turboing a bmw .. ( something to do with the air from the turbo still beibg present when shutting of the gas ). Should be fine for a NA motor. .....time will tell we are both using them on NA motors that's are totally different and not bmw haha
  13. nice work mate. I didn't get the IACV with mine but ended up with the exact same as yours and from pick a part. ( can get new ones on aliexpress for 20 bucks lol). you lucked out with the v10 mate. been looking at using a set on a pinto I'm building for my mk5 and they used the ITBs on all performance bmw motors. so there is a v8 set ... and the y have all the injector and idle air system all neatly tucked away on each bank..(and some dismantlers will sell you 1 bank ).
  14. Great idea mate.. I was wanting to replace 2 sections on my chassis rails...citing them off and straightening them didn't cross my mind.
  15. I also have the bits that @Valiant made so help keep the diff straight if your shortening it yourself..........if they fit
  16. I get excited with the idea of you working on this mate..its been agers and seeing what you did with the old datto.... its gonna be good.. And yeah the ca18 looks better straight and not on the piss
  17. i was thinking about rear brakes and doing a disc conversion as i didnt have any rear brakes for it. but i then thought the easiest way would be to use factory aussie drums...they came on a 6 cylinder cortina soooooooooo must work well on a cortina with a 6 in it. (keep cert man happy aswell) and its not going to have a million hp. so thanks to @J-W-G igot my hands on a set of factory aussie assembled rear drums..seen better days but nothing a rebuild wont fix.......and the best price. so here they are. and after a few hours i got the backing plates all cleaned up ready to have the backs painted in POR15. 1 of them had some damage (looks like someone lost a wheel at some point) i managed to straighten it so the drum wont rub
  18. got a few diff things done. crown wheel on...housing cleaned and painted POR15 ...diff head all bak in and good to go...(got a bit slap happy with the red paint lol....also only thing i could find.)
  19. i couldnt find it...i looked from late 2009 till 2012. and that about as hard as im looking....
  20. awesome work mate.....looks the ducks nuts.
  21. You know my thoughts mate.. DO IT. That thing looking just as it does now with a rotary in it is perfect.
  22. Pretty much mate... The last 1 I ever did was engine bay mounted (so solid mounted) the engine only moved about and inch so the holes for intake runners were oval and sealed with strips of glued foam.... But I will worry about that when I get to it....coming up to Xmas now so work will slow down on it till new year I would imagine.
  23. They are a slip fit and held on by 3 grub screws....but tight enough for 1 probably if I drilled in the throttle body a weekend bit. As for filters. Not sure.want to make a big sealed airbox in the engine bay with that seals when the bonnet shuts.. and maybe have a small panel filter in that where the air feed is...but if that does work.......... worse case .micro mesh filters inside the trumpets.
