  1. I think the grumpy old fella we bought bought our truck from has died? His land is up for grabs. You can see in one of the photos on this trademe listing for his land a line up of old hinos. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =483221397 Sort of a shame- he was grumpy but quite a character. He had a missing leg and we found out later it was lost due to him having dropped something heavy on his foot, being too proud/stupid to go see a doctor when it started going green and then they had to chop the lot off knee down. He liked Jap trucks. Liked hinos. Hated the fact they got badged as fords so removed all ford badges and bought hino badges to fit back in place.
  2. One of the lower front ball joints on my viva is a touch sloppy. It didn't get picked up at last warrant but I noticed it when the car was on he hoist at work. I have asked about for new ones but these ones were only fitted to vauxhall ventora 3.3s and firenzas to suit the bigger brakes. Rocking horse poo. And I bloody well missed out on a pair of new ones being sold in cypress for £42 posted to a few weeks ago as I thought at the time- nah I don't need them, mine are fine. Sods law eh... Any way.. Vivaspeed mentioned to me that I could get them injected with resin- through the grease nipples. I asked my work mates and they said they used to have a kit to do it. Still companies overseas doing this service and it seems popular and approved. But my workmates said its now illegal in nz? I have priced getting it rebuilt by HBI engineering in Chch .. $125+gst + freight! Ouch. If anyone can help with ideas, or know somewhere else I might try for parts?
  3. Those little clips on my rx3 all either pulled out from the rubber or broke off in the door. The ones that stayed intact didn't click in and stay in place so well. Would be awesome if you can get new clips! I tried rubber in the right shape from from a source in England but it was slightly too big and door wouldnt shut. Has to be just right. Plus it was bloody tricky to try and get the clips fitted inside the rubber. I reused the old seals in the end. How bad are your old seals?
  4. which is exactly what i was gonna suggest.
  5. How did you manage to score that for free? Jammy bugger.
  6. Centre of road still offside.
  7. Cheers dude. Stu- does Martin own quiet revolution? I have met him a few times over the years when I pop in but don't really know him. Nice fella though. Which gathering did you go to? I remember the one at start of '99. It was so bloody hot up there that year. The next year I had left nz but dad told me that it rained hard and people got hypothermia? It is an amazing place up there eh! When you go back there make sure to check out the new tracks up there built by the takaka club.
  8. Finding more rust when you think you have sorted it all always sucks. When you were por15ing the underside how much did you get in your hair?....
  9. What's wire cutting?
  10. Go for it! I bloody good fun building things like these and very satisfying. Plus you end up with a house. Which is always handy
  11. Ha- according to racing beats info on clearances when rebuilding my engine is pretty bloody loose. Well actually it is. But still starts well hot or cold and goes well enough. My $100 special. Interesting what they say about 2mm vs 3mm seals.
  12. Near side then. As in near to the gutter. Offside is opposite- being near the centre of road. Although I've not heard many use near side / offside in nz? Do others on here use these terms?
  13. Port side? Is that near side?
  14. I think the series 5 turbo engine has higher compression than series 4 turbos or the 12a turbos. One reason that the setup in my car got good reviews was due to it being a NA 12a running low boost. Sod all lag and good drivability. I think stock NA 12a can run up to about 8 psi safely so long as you watch the ignition timing. So I guess a 13b with NA rotors could happily run low boost with no drama. Would be a great add on to your Anglia for the future- bolt a hair dryer onto the side... once you get bored with what it will currently have...
  15. Wow. Heavier then I thought. My viva in standard form is 770kg. Viva looks bigger but probably isn't much. Anyway yeah I reckon you'll happily slice the 0-100 down..... Is that a series 4 or 5 engine?
  16. Cool! Ya got them xe's. Good work. You only need one.... I'll look after the other for ya....
  17. The rotaries are quite heavy too. Small but chunky. A few years back i weighed a 12a complete with standard nikki carb, alternator and starter at about 120~130kg. But yeah- 600-700 kg car is light these days.
  18. I'm loving the mk1 golf on page one. Very sweet. Not seen many 2 door mk1's here in nz. Are there many British cars in Russia? I imagine not. What about old opels?
  19. Fuck yeah. Me likey. But I would eh. Will be mental. How heavy is an Anglia? Gonna watch this one!
  20. All the 'mashed up nuts by previous owners' on the axles, sump and box on our old hiace now have massive nuts welded onto them. Now future proof. Looks bodge but so long as I can always remove them easily I don't care. Usually the heat as ya weld the nuts in place helps free stuck plugs too.
  21. Yeah. I think we can soundly blame that on Sam's willy. Pesky thing. Always up to no good. 10 woman drunk in kaikoura and they didn't bother to join us?!!
  22. Yeah I think it was probably routed into the old style air filter.
  23. Cheers for pics. The one I am leaning towards is either diagram 4 but suck it into the filter. 4 would be best as I'll properly be purging the sump area with fresh air all the time. Maybe I could add a drain back to the sump but I don't think I'll be filling the tank up that quickly. The current system is how the The elford came setup except the other vent in the centre plate would have been connected to something. I can't remember quite where. It's not ideal that's for sure hence why I want to change it. The pcv valve is the stock Mazda one. Even though I don't think there is too much oil being lost I do want to avoid sucking any oil through the induction system and so have it burning inside leaving carbon deposits. I want to avoid any deposits building up as its a high comp engine with a turbo and I don't want any pre-ignition ( Im still looking for a 12a turbo dizzy with its boost related retard feature)
  24. You like my turbo vanes that look like flowers..
