  1. I'm planing on painting my block which I've degreased as well as the other bits that are going to be painted, do I need to do anything else to prep them? Also, obviously I need high temp paint. I want to do the extractors as well (If thats a good idea?), any specific brand I should get, and what temps will the block/extractors get to so I know what to get.. Cheers
  2. Well, luckily I found something to do! - took me ages Reason for stripping the paint off was because the top layer of paint was flakey and it has surface rust coming through underneath

  5. ^^ got the 2 engines for $150 So a 1275 build will be happening shortly, probably after paint Picking them up Saturday. Just going to go standard head, planed for higher C/R (at this stage, depending on funds may get a better head), extractors & twin carbs. Deciding on what cam to get, theres one on trademe (brand new), 'tis a wade 140 which at 295/297 duration is a bit much for the street. But there is plenty of time for shopping

  8. Had a look on trademe this morning and found a 1300 engine near me, so I'll try my best to get it. It comes with a 1000cc engine too, so I could sell the 2 smaller engines and make the money back, or part of it

Thats a mitsi engine yeah?, I had problems getting a 4g32 head off, what I did was put a screw driver down the cam chain thing, and push the tensioner so the chain goes loose (2 people helps, can do it yourself though) and it came straight off, may need "prying" with another screw driver.. Could be completely different though.. but yeah
  11. Thinners isn't a major part of the actual coat, it just thins it out so its sprays better.. What I'd do is add a little bit to some paint and spray it and if it sprays ok keep going, if its not coming out of the gun very well then add some more, but don't put heaps in cause you will get runs and a generally crap coat

  13. Can't be specific.. but is it just single, i.e no hardeners? If so I'd say about 15%, from what I've experienced anyway.

Well, stripped some of the engine earlier and its not looking great, but not entirely bad... yet, still gotta see the bottom end bearings etc Has been sitting for a while and was kinda ceased up, little bit of persuasion with a large wrench and a few taps and it now turns over.. pretty keen on getting another engine though, is it worth getting a 1275+? or just spend the cash on this engine? Apparently the 1098's don't rev all that well, what about the 1275's?, as I'd like to do some mods also.. Cam, +C/R, exhaust and twin carbs or something are in the plans and I like a bit of "revability" Btw, I'll be building it so don't take rebuild cost into it, just parts etc How much do 1275's go for usually? - seen one for 800 on trademe... and thought that was a joke
  16. Got the 1275 and 998 on the weekend and stripped the 1275 down yesterday and it doesn't look to good, bores/pistons/rings all look fine but all the bottom end bearings are toast.

  19. I think you may be suprised if you degrease that engine bay it may come out looking brand new. my old colts engine bay was very dirty/oiled up and once degreased it looked 10x better than the original paint on the body
  20. Cheers man, kinda want to do the whole package not just the engine, but I might get the standard engine in and going and see how it handles and brakes then go from there
  21. sweet as, only 4 months or so away from getting a job, so i figuered instead of selling the mini and using my saved money to buy another car, just spend it all on the mini onto the point.. atm I have $2500 I have saved.. what you suggest I do with this? (500 will goto paint), probably get some wheels and flares aswell, so 1200ish to spend on the rest. Also its drums all round, so an upgrade there could probably help?, even if just uprated brake shoes or something to keep to the low budget Suspension upgrades etc?
