  1. forget about adjusting the tierods. ^^ what he said. something aint right
  2. Being alloy it will most likely not be anywhere near strong enough to be a proper cage. Alloy 'cosmetic' cages are quite popular in the UK, but offer no additional protection in accidents. And yes I agree, they are gay. thought id add that alloy cages cannot be made legal for competition use. if you have read the autobiography by possum bourne, you will know what im talking about. but just breifly, after he had a huge crash and his co-driver at the time was killed, regulations throughout the world changed, stating that roll cages must be made of steel of chromoly steel.
  3. iv got a better idea then all of you lol. go to firestone, get a wheel allignment and ask them to do it for you. that way you get a wheel allignment, and lowered for free. just put blocks in the back. iv done it many times, its very simple.
  4. oh damn it i wish my escort was on the road and finished so i could come. can i hitch a ride with someone? lee? pleeeeeease someone
  5. well thats what he said. he priced something else up for me at trade price so i assume he did the same for the capri disks
  6. yea bnt was slightly more, 148 each or something but not sure if that was trade tho. i think it was tho but not 100% sure.
  7. ok well just an update. today i bought some new suspention off a guy my dad knows. escort struts with bilstein insert, king springs, standard disks and hubs. in the back bilstein shocks and reset etc etc springs. all i wanted was the disks but he made an offer i couldnt refuse so im getting it all. lol. anyhow, i got some 2.8 capri disks priced up at bnt today at trade, was around $140 each, so palmside is about the same. so i think il flag that option and go better solid disks. re kit the callipers, and iv just bought some formula feroda race/road pads for around 100bux which apparently are the best on the market. i think this setup should do me well for the mean-time, untill i spend some more coin down the track...
  8. The calipers themselves are made in 2 halves. To rebuild them, split them and replace pistons/seals/clean out etc. To convert to run on vented disks, get a spacer from palmside, etc which will allow for the extra width of the vented disk, and bolt the two halves back through that. I'm not a huge fan of the austin princess brakes, as they are really heavy, and this all adds to the unsprung weight of the wheel. I hear, but have never tried, that there are some volvo 4 pots that also fit with little persuasion which are commonly used over the ditch. Personally, I'm using the standard 2 pots with a spacer and mintex pads on 2.8i capri venteds. I'll let you know what they're like when it moves again right, this is a brake through (excuse the pun, had to be done). has anyone done this before? i was actually looking on palmside last night thanks to someone who put the link on here. it seems like the ideal thing to do for me, and get the callipers re kitted at the same time. is the kit for this the 'm16 spacer kit for vented disks?
  9. oh yea, forgot to mention, Ford cant get anything, and BNT also cant get anything. looks like its either repco or something aftermarket. i dont want to have to wait for more then a month or so because i want to get me knew struts in so i can move the car etc...
  10. ok well iv rung around the place and repco can get them, and yes there is none in the country at the moment. there are 4 coming from australia but the guy said it could be a week, could be a month before they get here. can you guys elaborate on the aftermarket rotors? also how is it possible to fit ventilated rotors in standard callipers with spacers? please explain this one to me. it does sound like a good idea tho.
  11. i didnt, the guy did. i know him, the place he works at gets a lot of tyres through my work. he said he rang the ford dealers etc and couldnt find anything. said they didnt even have a listing for mk2 escort or something. even tho i got new ball joints and other stuff through them. maybe i should ring them up myself
  12. ok so i took my front disk rotors (mk2 escort) into a workshop around the corner from work to get machined, and the guy said that they are getting to thin to even bother. ok thats fine, get new ones? nope, no one makes them. second hand? yes, but to find anything decent is going to be a big mission. i know that there are aftermarket disks out there, but they are mostly ventilated - to thick for the callipers. so my question to everyone, what should i do? 1. keep searching for second hand standard disks untill i find something with plenty of meat on it? 2. find an alternative disk of some other car (here is where you guys come in) 3. spend a fair bit a coin and get some aftermarket disks, and in-turn bigger callipers to go with (AP 4 pots or willwood or something like that. perhaps even some princess calliper but they dont come by very often and its probably not worth it, and going AP callipers anyway.) the car is being built with nothing but performance in mind, but at the moment i am just trying to get it on the road. i was just going to get the disks maching and new brake pads etc etc. at the moment the brakes are hopeless, and i do have track useage in mind, aswell as i intend on doing some club motorsport with the car. any help is much appreciated. cheers guys

    Track rubber

you are right on there. nitrogen = good shit. my mate uses them in his drift car on the track and he loves it. costs $5 per tyre.

    Track rubber

ok time for tyre man cam to have a turn. Bridgestone does a tyre - potenza G03 pole position. i think they only make them for 17" and bigger, so $300 each +. they are a soft compound road tyre but are pretty much destined for the track. forget about eagle f1, toyo, blah blah. they dont compare shit to these. they have the tankest fucken sidewall ever. allmost like a run-flat tyre. they are the hardest tyres i have ever tried to put on a rim. (put some 18"s on some rims this week, took 3 of us to get them on.) also, bridgestone had a demonstration track day for its tyres. same car, same sets of rims. there was a time sheet of what each tyre was acheiving etc etc. went from potenza g3's, RE001's, G03's. then it compared to a semi slick track tyre. G03's were matching those times lap after lap. go figure.
  15. arent the internals pretty much the exactly the same as the 4speed box's, except with the extra 5th gear on the other side, making it longer? thats what iv been told...
  16. its all pretty relative realy. if the half cage is made purely as a roll bar (which is what they are often refered to) then the main perpose of it is for the bar to be strong incase of the car being rolled. but you can make it as stiff as you want with as many bars as you like, within the general layout of the conventional half cage format, so long as its kept a 4 point cage. thus meaning its up to the imagination as to how you want it built. but then you will start adding uneccessary weight. this is as far as i know of course.
  17. dad made his own cage in his rally car, but that was back in the 80s. a half cage wont give much more rigity as they are only there for safety, unless you add in more diagonals. if your car is going to be used on the road then my understanding is it NEEDS to be homologated, and certed. this means you need to attend a minimum of 3 motorsport events per year, which keeps your motorsport authority card viable. iv got a bunch of mates with drift cars but they are purely drift cars so they arent certed or anything. but this isnt the case if it is to be registerd for the road
  18. what about the 1300 gt heads? would they be the same? im going to look at one tomorrow for a mate. is there anything that will tell me if its actually a genuine 1300 gt? its a mk1
  19. when i got mine panalbeated i got the guards pumped heaps. they look like they are flared, but thats because they were done by a guy who knows whats hes doing- works at the best panalshop/paint shop in hawkes bay (literally) and they are absolutely perfect.
  20. meh the muffler shop in dale is budget as. they did zorst on escort gay as like over bended and bended back so it could fit over diff which was stupid. pit stop is reeaaly good for what you pay for. place in onekawa is also real good, my mate just got some rage extractors and zorst done on his trueno at a real good price. also pit stop stocks RPS mufflers which are great quality and sound real good
  21. haha yea dad gets some real good bridgestones 4 it $85 each and they are so bloody good. never know limits of them tho coz of the mega body roll etc.
  22. pwnt hah. pitty this thing didnt go ahead. more legal skids is what we need. get the dropkicks with diesel and mums chariot off the road. yeh fair enuf pwnt on that 1 lol. fuck yea crank out dads chariot! just gave the engine a rebuild aswell itl last 4 ages!
  23. lol u realise appco and repco=same. mate works at appco, says if htey dont got something in stock they just walk round the corner and grab it from repco. can get mean discounts there now it fucking rules.
  24. actually i they did have 21 entrants from hawkesbay. and new people from other places that were all going to come down/up for the event. i saw the book with all the entrants as i was with my mate when he put in his entry so i DO know. no you dont see many rotors at comps.... except the last one when there was about 7 that came along to watch and 2 that entered. there are plenty of rotors in hawkes bay, easily 20
