  1. sweet, should be a good skidder then. best of luck to ya eh
  2. chuck a lexus in it mate, it'll go hard. are you planning on leaving everything else standard? carby'd?
  3. too right, who gives a shit, i want nothing more than to axe the next bitch i hear say anything along the lines of "oh my god you're doing up a FORD??" or, "im not riding in that, i cant see the holden badge" theres more to life than the brand of a car. chuck a 327 in the fairlane man, i dare ya
  4. Under the new regs IF they think somthings a bit dodgey they can investagate, ie if they think theres a bit of duct tape instead of a steel patch on a door etc they can jab it with a screwdriver etc haha yeah, i thought the same thing, bloody wof man and his screwdriver found rust in the 323, made us fix it. we used steel mesh, covered it in bog, he checked it with a magnet "you've done a good job with the welder there boys" gold.
  5. good move man, i reckon it looks tough. you'll be proud wearing that ford badge again eh? haha you obviously arent religious on the issue.
  6. Looks like your going pretty hard on the crown man, but ive gotta warn you. fibreglassing/bogging rust like that will not solve the problem, it wont even slow it down, the water will just sit on the edge where the fibreglass meets the steel and eat away at it, making the hole bigger especially if the bog fills up all the drainage holes in the door. I've done a shitload of welding all over the capri, shaving shit, rust etc, never had any problems with warpage. Started doing some rust work/ shaving etc on my mates starlet on saturday, chopped a heap of rust out and everything just fell apart, had to be so careful to avoid warpage, didnt end out running beads of weld, just tack after tack. i put it down to the cheap thin metal the jappas use, escorts/capri's definately have thicker steel with a higher carbon content. (pity they didnt design the drainage systems properly)
  7. oh thats brilliant. much smarter than the sledgehammer.
  8. have you been to http://www.caprisport.com they are pretty arrogant but seem to know what they are talking about, i havent got my car going yet so i cant personally help you with setup, either way, i dont know any more than caprisport. good luck with it all. theres also http://www.capriracing.co.uk/forum
  9. reckon a turbo 4age aou
  10. yo dude, think we'll let RT explain this one http://www.retrotech.co.nz/toybox.html from what that says the serial numbers are a waste of time, just got to count out the gear ratios.
  11. might let the blackbird off the leash eh, i'll throw you a txt on friday or something, even though i'll most likely be horribly drunk. you'll have to come round and witness the birth of my capri too eh.
  12. The capri has escort style chassis rails under it to about halfway, then its just subframed till where the leaf springs start. i like your idea though, i'll definately run with it, see what i can come up with. even if i do just make a rail kit for it, might be overkill though, im only running 300ish hp
  13. haha sounds just like me, anytime im asked, "i'll be started on christmas day" has ya mate got a few capris getting the treatment?
  14. some shots would be good, that car is goin to be a weapon. the cage will add alot of strength to the shell i suppose. pity i wont be able to fit the fat bitches in around one/ not my style etc. when do ya reckon your mates one will be running?
  15. dude, ya can have the auto trans from behind my lexus v8, they are a dime a doz, real strong, easily shift kitted, removable bellhousing etc. and they arent worth anything because they never need replacing.
  16. hey, im guessing his is the brown one off capriracing.co.uk, it looks pretty mean. All the aussie built mk1's had v6 bodies on them with the extra gussets, not mine unfortunately I've added as many of them as i can figure out, extra layer on the strut tops, trapezium plate from the inner guard to the strut housing (pic in project buildups) an extra layer from the bumper mount back to the crossmember along the back of the chassis rail. (inner guard) and ive added some top inner guard to firewall, and lower inner guard to firewall, chassis. so if it cracks, it wont be in the engine bay?
  17. Im in the process of "strategically" strengthening my capri by seam welding, and adding gussets. has anyone else done the same or similar to their cars without the addition of roll cages? where did you focus on? So far i've added all the v6 spec gusset plates to my car and will add front and rear strut braces. Im quite keen to hear any more ideas short of a jungle gym (which i wont even consider)
  18. Cheers man, Im building this as a jack of all trades really, bit of show, be a good cruiser, and still good fun on the track. not too sure if nzpc will allow it in the 4 n Rotary champs next year, but we'll see.
  19. reckon ya cars awesome man, takin on some mad inspiration.
  20. http://www.fixrambler.com/art62.html Windsor weighs 208kg. lexus is 180kg (i checked it on a scale) my lexus should be even lighter, doing away with the bulky intake system. i'm not too sure how old my engine is. it has 2002 written on the leads, supposed to be a good indication, but i doubt it. they normally have plastic covers over the dizzy/ leads etc (removed because im gonna make something shiny to take their place) and it has 2 coils that bolt on to the block. the later vvti ones have individual igniters on the plugs and a different intake setup. havent got round to putting the diff in, i'll get it all sorted with the panard rod, anti tramp stuff when the cars in at the panel shop getting the sills done, guards welded back on etc. too much bloody work to do. hah c ya
  21. the lexus has over double the power to the standard engine, and only weighs in at an extra 8kg more than the v6 which means its going to be really easy to set up to make it handle, as i can use the research put into v6 race cars etc. a 351 would probably twist my chassis as well. The ultimate goal is a twin turbo mondeo v6 but thats the long term (i'll need a retirement project)
  22. the man problem i have with raising the tunnel is that i want to keep the standard centre console, so the car looks standard on the inside (apart from the seats, no headrests on a car like that is just suicidal) so i think im gonna have to be quite strategic about how to go about cutting it up. she'll be right though. how hard can it be?
  23. i'm pretty sure i know the place you mean. could be stocks or the place next to it. i should be able to use the supra mount after i bust out the angle grinder and the welder. cheers dude.
  24. yeah, i read up on that yesterday, I wasnt serious about solid mounting anything, it'd just be a cop out. probably snap the poor old capri aswell.
  25. um... its still on jacks, it'd drop at least another inch, maybe more. def. needs raised. the sump/ crossmember/ bellhousing would sit at 4" off the deck, g/b xmember would have been about 3-3 1/2"
