  1. Is a rear bumper required for cert? Barry's going for the Lancia group B look:
  2. ... Sounds like I need to talk to Shouty Dave about a freight run...
  3. Pretty sure those are ex Formula Ford tyres. I reckon there should be a cache of them in Chch if Mitch ever gets the car rolling. Side note: will you run 15s for track work @Rhyscar?
  4. Here's the info you need from @Hyperblade's thread. J160 with TRS slicks looks like it'll be OK as long as you rev it to 9000.
  5. 4.9 will be relatively short with 13" slicks. Ruapuna's straight is long - @Hyperblade can probably chime in here with the Starlet's diff ratio, RPM and 6th gear ratio to give you a better idea.
  6. Nice! It's about time you had a car for yourself again. 90s cars are pretty oldschool now eh?

I'm pretty sure Lin is still tuning in Mt Maunganui. His business is called CDM and he's the go to guy for lots of Honda owners.
  8. Fingers crossed it doesn't end up sounding like every Altezza in Palmy.....
  9. About 2 weeks after I brought the car to Queenstown, I broke my shoulder riding the XR250... So for the last 8 weeks I've been staring at this in my garage without being able to touch it. The sling came off last week. I'm still a one armed bandit for anything heavier than washing dishes, but I still wanted to feel like I was making progress. A couple of mates helped me get the car to work over Easter weekend so I could wash it and start on a few small jobs. Much better. One job I really want to do is update the exhaust. The old side pipe has cracked and it had a bad habit of hitting the ground over ripple strips etc. This time I'd like to go full stainless and exit out the back of the car, with two mufflers. Going under the diff will be tricky because of my droop travel and lowered panhard rod mount, so I'm thinking of heading over the diff instead. It looks like it'll work - this is with the LR shock at close to full compression: Rear muffler location will look something like this: I'll run the smaller reso/muffler just before the diff and might run a V band up the front because the old flanges I've been using are pretty tired now! Taking the exhaust out the back makes me feel old. My ear drums will love me for it though
  10. Yeah, keen for some form of winter meet. Let's get it going
  11. I'd recommend talking to a shock specialist like Autolign or even a good staff member at BNT. Take the car in with you so they can get all the relevant info and order the right struts.
  12. Aaaand I'm out. Sorry guys, broke my shoulder on the Dunstan yesterday. Piano flat to Old Man Range is awesome BTW! And the Nevis. You're all in for a treat.
  13. Haha, that takes me back to a time when AE86s weren't considered oldschool.
  14. SS2000 was the class and the Pro7s fitted the category, so often raced on both grids. Also, did you guys forget how to oldschool? I moved both of your posts across from the main project thread.
  15. The vault has been opened More photos from Bay Park 1995:
  16. Yeah, I can reset your password @Hogibear
  17. Dad dug this photo out of his archives this week. Finally, a photo of the car racing at the final Bay Park race meeting - Easter 1995
  18. It's probably the fastest around a racetrack too
  19. All we really want to see is that CRX anyway.
  20. We're deep in our jellybean era since so many 90s cars are 30 years old now. Not unhappy about it.
  21. I think they're about 2000kg with all the seats in? It would've been a bit lighter than that for my camping trip. The odo also under reads a bit. It was around 10-11 l/100km when I worked out the first tank based on GPS km rather than what the dash told me.
  22. It's looking angry eh! The fronts are running a 13mm spacer at the moment and the rears have a 25mm bolt on spacer and an extra 13mm slip on for now until I can find a better way to space the rears (don't tell MSNZ). So the rears are currently 15x9 -38 . If I run the same setup with the Simmons, it works out to -51 offset. You can fit these in standard-ish arches with a 205 tyre and no spacers.
  23. With the holiday over, it was time to load the van full of stuff and get on the ferry. I only brought a small portion of my stuff. Lucky I can keep the hoard of stuff I'll never use in my garage in Palmy! Pukaki pesting: Oh yeah! I also didn't have time to fit the transmission cooler before leaving Palmy. Somehow this van appears to have magical powers and the temp has stayed below halfway throughout the whole summer of 3000+km. I'll still fit a cooler for peace of mind, but it's behaving itself surprisingly well so far. Another amazing thing is that the fuel economy barely changed between unladen travel and towing a car with a van load of stuff (probably an extra 2000kg over normal driving). It moved from an average of ~13l/100km to somewhere around 15l/100km. Maybe 1KZ's just like taking massive loads? It needs a bit more boogie, so a 3" exhaust and a few other mods are on the cards soon
  24. The 1KZ towed just fine. It's no rocket up hills with a car on a trailer and a full load in the van, but it did the trick. And the check engine light only flashed twice on my way south . No idea what it was for. The first time was around 10 seconds just out of Amberley and the second time was just a flash near Geraldine. Good van though. I started my North Island holiday around Christmas time and have been driving and camping in it since then. The IRS makes it handle nice enough and I've only had a couple of minor issues so far. Had to stop on the Desert Rd for the standard photo: Then South Waikato was so humid the OUTSIDE of the car fogged up: Note the single wiper conversion. The driver's side wiper spindle is so sloppy that the wiper wouldn't touch the screen over 80kph. Whangamata: Katikati: Te Puna: Rotoiti for @Gaz's NY birthday: Taupo: Kaimai Camping:
  25. I've had this out for another couple of hoons since the last post, but it's mostly been sitting while I renovated my house and raced the MX5. Here's a couple of shots from December 2022: And @Iggy made this awesome thing for me on the laser at his work. That's going straight to the pool room! Then I moved to Queenstown in June and left the car locked away in my garage in Palmy for another 6 months. My new job has a full workshop and some other cool things (like a dyno), so I've been itching to get it down here! That mission came together over the Christmas break. I bought a 1KZ Granvia in the North Island, flew up and towed the 86 down at the end of my holiday. I loaded it with as much stuff as possible and filled the van with even more. There's an engine, gearbox and a few other fun parts in the stash, so I'll be building an engine in the next wee while. Very keen to see what a Beams engine can do with bigger cams and more compression. The poor old Granvia was loaded! I stopped at lake Pukaki for a photo op with Aoraki: Made it to Queenstown safe and sound. I only have half a garage here, so have to be pretty careful with my hoarding (it's probably for the best). Feat a wild @TimShadboltfan27 Looking forward to getting out onto all the South Island tracks this year!
