    Tuning a Pinto

    Cheers guys, shall do. I think giving it a quick tunes a decent price in return for a full set of new 175s fitted.
  10. Yeah I know this is in the wrong section but I'm fixing the timing on my mates capri tomorrow and I've gotta find out what to set it to. Its got a Cortina Pinto and my mate doesnt have a clue. Help would be nice thanks

  13. Yeah i just had a crack at it with a drill, nothing too drastic just cleaning it all up and getting rid of the burrs and lips. Cheers RT i'll look into that. its got a standard carb on it at the mo but im looking at either slapping a webber on it or trying to get or make a manifold to fit a set of 11/4" twin S.Us iv'e got. What i really want to do is make a manifold for quad S.Us. hate to think how hard itd be to set up and tune tho. Whats the story with 1100cc pistons etc? that just raise compression? what should i do to the ignition?
  14. Recently my 1300 xflow died mysteriously. Still dont know why but suspect the rings all died at once. Anyhow iv got it apart and im looking at a few mods. already has a cam and extractors and iv just finished porting and polishing the head, what else can i do cheaply that would boost power. I dont want to spend alot of money as my mercedes is still off the road. Cheers
  15. Yeah thats kinda stating the obvious, still figured itd be $150, $150/4= about $40 a journal, seeing as only one needed done I thought I might have been able to save some coin. I will do them all though, thank you very much P.S. you all get full marks
  16. Yeah is that all it costs for a regrind? I remember working for a guy who was fielding his own stock car team and it cost his 300 for his V8s crank grind. Yeah I've only just replaced the bearings and itd only been running for an hour max before they shot out. It'l only be the fourth bearing im sure. The mercs got a stupid fan that is magneticly opperated so it wont spin unless its got power to the magnets to make it grip the shaft, this isnt working which is why they blew so fast.   17. Wow guess I fucked that one up, it was a Monday though. Uh yeah Im not sure if I can buy single bearings or not. I think it might still work out cheaper to get a set of oversizeds and use only one and get only one journal reground, no idea what that costs. Top marks to you both though. Excellent!
  18. If your all as lazy as me you wont wanna do a nice long reply so I'll make it multichoice, because I like multichoice. My big ends are sad again in my Benz cos I didnt do a crank regrind, just polished up the journals a little with the sump off. I've now got to pull it all out and do the regrind I should have done in the first place. The question is: Do I need to do all the big-end journals or just the one thats shagged? (A) YES ( NO Im just worried that if I only do one whether having a lighter side to the crank will throw it out of balance or anything. I appreciate any answers, extra marks are available for tips or explanations. If you dont know the answer, DONT VOTE! Cheers.

    Theres another way, make a switch in one of your HT leads leading to a engine spark plug so that you can switch power between the cylinder spark and the exhaust spark, that way your car will momentarily run on 3 cylinders, guaranteeing there will be unburnt gas coming down the line, other thing to do would be to build it the way Devious1 described and just pull the choke out when u wanna light it up.
  20. Im Probably wrong but isnt this called dieseling when it runs on? I found a little thing on my parts car called an anti dieseling solenoid which is a valve which stays closed while the motors running but opens when you switch it off to stop it stuttering and choking etc. its sitting in my shed somewhere, i could find it for you if you were keen.

  22. hey guys wondering if anyone has a clue bout whats happening inside my poor gearbox. about 2 months ago i got bored of the horrible decelerating noises i was getting and decided to swap my gearbox to a spare i had from a wreck. first i completely dismantled it, cleaned it and replaced the main bearings. at this stage all of the cones and gears looked pretty mint. after putting it back in with new oil it was great. untill today... i found out suddenly that i now dont have to push the gearstick to get to reverse anymore. its still fully driveable but its real easy and embarrassing to push the gearstick into reverse when taking off. anyone have any clues on what its doing and how to fix it?
