Turn up the radio? Since it's pretty easy to remove the back cover, have you tried rechecking the crownwheel/pinion mesh with bearing blue? Does the crownwheel have wear on the faces of the teeth? (kind of a rippley look on the face of the tooth)

Maybe check your voltage while the head untis playing up with a multi meter and see if maybe you have an alternator fault?

I haven't properly read this thread, but 0 compression would have to be as a result of a tight valve lash preventing the valve closing. I knew a guy who rebuilt his engine after a cook up. He has the head shaved,as well as the rest of it. Then he slapped the head back on without resetting the tappets and had no compression. Fail.

You did a stout burnout, and they said we don't have the stats on what this car's running in front of us, but I'd say by the look of that it must be running an 8! I lol'd about that one.

The worst part is that they use a poxy crush spacer on the pinion bearing. Didn't you have this diff trikced up by the diff shop? If so go back and tell them to fix it!

I believe thats been set by the NZDRA.

Noise on overrun/decel is the pinion bearing ussually. Noise that goes away when you lift your foot is the gearset. Axle bearing noise will be constant throughout.

It's free for racers racing on the sat AFAIK. But yeah, the outrageous fee will hurt the numbers of street cars I think. $5 to watch the practise is a good deal though. maybe we could roll out there for a look after this meet?

The dirty old Z is a bit of an unknown quantity when it comes to workshop manual data. I'd sugest maybe asking at OZdat. if that data is out there, someone there is bound to have it.

It's probably burnt oil out the tail pipe!
