  1. We have already discussed this but lower should be the next step! then steels, chrome trim rings and whitewalls also - must keep vinyl designs down side love it!
  2. yea lately it has only had small runs around the island. might definitely be time for a fang off the island! the straight around the back of the airfield would be best as its pretty quiet. the mini hasnt had a wof since 07? so dont wanna get pulled up haha cheers
  3. italian tune up? is that code word for take it for a fang? im out on Herald Island (near whenuapai, west akl) cheers
  4. also - i saw someone say you can run a slightly hotter spark plug.....? Obviously thats not solving the "problem" but may help it run better for the mean time? chur
  5. nah i didnt do rotor and condenser. what $ am i looking at to get those? where is best for mini bits? if its just one plug is it likely to be these? cheers
  6. hey, my inlaws have a sweet little old mini (been in their family for donkeys) but now just sits in the garage, rather sad really. so I had a go at getting it running etc and had some success......new plugs, timing, reset tappets, pulled carb apart and did a quick clean up etc.. However, its doing some 3 cylinder action and one of the spark plugs is really greasy compared to the rest.....what does this mean? im guessing either worn rings? or valve stem seals or something...? The inlaws are not gonna wanna throw too much money at it really so how can i find out further what it is without pulling too much apart..? Cheers also - think its a 850cc?
  7. couple of quick questions: I have a 73 toyota ke26 wagon, quite original with 12" wheels and 155/80/12 tyres. i like the style of the current wheels with trim rings and whitewall tyres. I am toying with the idea of putting a 4age in (but running k50 gearbox), really just as an upgrade over the clunker 4k, not for doing skids etc, just cruising. i have almost all the parts i need. I want to know what peoples thoughts are whether i would pass a cert with standard brakes (or upgraded) but still running the 12" wheels? obviouslt cant really increase brake size with the 12" rims... I have had trouble finding any rim/tyre combos with the classic whitewall look in 13". Also i am thinking about putting 1 rear seatbelt in (had no belts from factory), to hold a kiddie seat. Does anyone know of any good places that would do this in auckland. And would this require cert as well? cheers Dan
  8. Hey, what is the brake line thread pitch for toyotas? or specifically ae82 NZ new if that makes any difference? its "almost" M10 x 1.25 but not quite....... Cheers
  9. Hey, im rebuilding the rear calipers on my ae82. got the kits from autostop. they come with 3 different types of grease. an orange, clear and a milky coloured one...... where should i use each? my guess: clear = around piston milky = around sliding brackets orange = around handbrake actuator in the back of the caliper... or does it not make any difference? cheers
  10. hey, wof time and the GT has failed on uneven rear brakes. first time round both the handbrake and footbrake were low on the rear left. This made me think it may be something with the caliper. got a new caliper and fully bleed all brakes. this time round handbrake is sweet but footbrake still low on left rear. Must be something to do with the valving? what should i do next? is there just 1 valve that proportions the rear brakes? is this located on the firewall? Cheers
  11. got it sorted, not exactly sure how though.....so it might come back? Just double checked the vac lines and made sure all plugs were tight etc.... I used the TPS from the original engine as your one (simon) did look a little mashed, plus everything was working mint on my engine (idle etc etc) so may as well stay with what ya know haha. Cheers
  12. Ive seen something related to this before but could not find it through the search....? I have just put a new 4age into my GT ae82. Started it this morning and im in the process of setting the timing (should have finished but my timing light is shitting itself). when the engine got a little warmer the idle started bouncing up and down from about 1500-2500 revs..just continuously bouncing up and down........ Any body had this problem before? Cheers
  13. OK, Got a lot done since last post. Got a second hand bluetop 4age from Simon, arrived up in akl about tuesday last week... Got my flywheel machined, picked up a new clutch and got some ARP flywheel bolts. Toyota wanted like $12 each, but got these ARP's for $50.. spent about 2 days putting everything together. Simons 4age is from aw11? i think so didnt have powersteer and AC pumps?, that meant i had to put my crank wheel onto the new engine which was way more of a mission than it should have been! It also had slightly different throttle body setup for accel cable coming from a diff angle so i changed this over too. also the water outlet on the back of the head was diff. Simons only had one sensor where as mine had two. changed that over aswell. Got the CV boot changed also. Finally got everything put back together late today, have a small water leak at one point which ill fix in the AM. It wont crank though? just "click".... thought it was flat batt so tried to jump it but that didnt work either??? ill check the starter and earth points in the morning but what else could it be??? Will try put some photos up tomorrow not that there is much too see - just standard 4age ae82 haha any ideas of what else to check regarding the no cranking would be good so i can get it sussed asap.. discussion here: http://www.oldschool.co.nz/phpbb/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=28007
