  1. Nope, unless of course you mean BDA, BDG etc... These were made with help from Cosworth so could come into your question??
  2. I qoute here... "What we shall talk briefly about is converting these superb engines to naturally aspirated versions i.e. non-turbo - an area of tuning that is currently very popular. The first thing to consider is raising the compression ratio. Special Accralite forged pistons are available to raise the ratio to 11.5:1 for competition use (for fast road use, these pistons can be machined to a lower compression ratio). These pistons have special raised crowns and can be machined to suit individual requirements. Because the original head is designed for a turbo's forced induction it will require modifying to improve the gas flow of the naturally aspirated induction system. The cylinder head ports will require special attention and, for the higher power outputs, larger valves are used. The profile on the turbo camshafts is not suitable for aspirated engines and these will need reprofiling to suit the stage of tune. These profiles are not designed to be used with hydraulic tappets so these have to be replaced with special solid lifters. A set of heavy duty valve springs completes this basic list of requirements for converting your turbo engine to aspirated. The standard bottom end of these engines is pretty sound with the con rods being the weak link for higher revving engines. If the standard con rods are being re-used always fit heavy duty con rod bolts." CheeRS dave...
  3. What needs editing like?? More than just removing the Turbo Jerm mate, the head needs to be fully reworked as a normal YB head is deigned for forced induction with Injection and ECU etc... It costs about 4000 pounds to make a reasonable one up also!!
  4. I have heaps of contacts back in the UK that can supply new old stock and also remanufactured parts. Also heaps of tuning mods for all old school Fords. I will make a few enquiries first and then do soem reaserch at this end. Do you reckon there would be good interest then? I was thinking of first starting with say a 20 foot container load?? Also have to get myself GST registered so lots to look into first??
  5. I have been toying with starting a buisness importing Escort tuning and race prep parts from Europe of late. Maybe I could add a few sets of these lights to my maybe list??
  6. Cheers matey, no details on the car as yet, more has gone into the Mk1, but cheers for the comments. Jerm, I never actaully built the engine mate. I bought the car as a bit of a project and the motor was built by a NA specialist called Wayne Riggar, he drag races a 250 brake NA Anglia by the way. What I did was just strip the car down and rebuilt it all right. The woring was a mess, it had no breather, a poor extractor and exhaust set up, lts really, it just needed putting right. NA cossie motors are used purly for their reving ability and power right from the off, it was 230 brake that one by the way. Tango also did a 0-60mph drag sprint in 5.01 seconds with wheels spinning in all gears!! The manifolds I fitted were purly for better extraction, it makes it easier to use larger bores and also get each length equal to keep the engine running at optimum levels. Oh yeah, they also look mint!! CheeRS

The Haynes Manual thats dedicated to Webber Carbs is the Daddy! They copy I had was borrowed so maybe I gave it back before I left the UK, I will dif it out tommorow and see whats what...

Of no help what so ever to your question, but maybe useful in the future... ???

Always ran vacum-less dizzies myself so maybe thats where I get lost? I will still have a look at pics on my files though, you never know??
  10. Not BMW lights as I belive they may be smaller in diameter? They are manufactured in the Uk by a company that specialises in Minis and Moggy Minors. The diameters are the same but you need to carefully clip off the pastic brakets moulded to the rear of the reflectors so they fit an Escort. You then just unscrew the retaining clips from your lights, remove the outer lamp rings, undo the multi plug and slot in the new ones. Also need to run a seperate wire from your side lights to the outer bulb but thats dead easy. Look smart tho i reckon??
  11. Just got Exhaust pics at the moment so here goes... N/A Cossie YB Lump BDA Also dont forget that you will; have to fit larger manifolds and open up the gaskets when refitting! CheeRS Dave...
  12. Opening and smoothing of all internals helps yeah, but be careful you dont go crazy, especially on the inlet side of things. There are all kinds of crazy pysics type factors such as air venturis that can alter your flow. What you basically need to do is open it all up, keep everything even and symetrical, and make it easier for air/fuel mix to flow. I have some pics of opened up heads on my cars some place, giz a mo...

I know on a few twin weber set ups in the past I ran a hose from the brake servo to the inlet manifold, but to this does not realy answer your question? Also a second hose from the carbs to just a small K+N air filter as a breather. To be honest mate, if it works better now then its they way it should be?? I can maybe dig about for some pictures and see what others have used if you like? What motor set up are you using??
  14. Not sure on your set up but possibly the gearbox cross member type support under the car??
  15. Not for me sorry mate, too much bulkhrad chopping required for Escort fit. They go well in AC type kit cars though, he would do well to advertise in them kinds of circles??

Yep, here you go... http://www.racetep.com/weber.html http://www.carbs.net/Weber/weber.htm There is also a good Haynes Book all about Webber carbs?? I think I have one in my shed some place. CheeRS Dave...
  17. They look like this... CheeRS Dave...
  18. You can fit any bulbs you like mate. I have some of blue ones some place? I actually have the BMW style "angle eyes" lights fitted to my Mk2. They are the type that have the side lights as a ring/circle around teh outside of lights, they look very different!
  19. You normally just hone your bores if they go out of round. Its basically just a very slight machining to get things back sweet again. You will probably also need oversized pistons afterwards?? Opening up ports on your head is "normally" done with a burr type tool and by hand slowly. You are better getting them wider and also taking off any rough edges or steps to get free flowing gases. You can also dowel your manifolds in place to ensure they keep matched. CheeRS Dave...

    DIFF RATIO

Escorts are not meant for motorways anyway mate, just take the back roads and have fun!!
  21. CheeRs again folks, but I sadly had to sell all the other cars before I left the Uk for these shores. Just the BDa and Turbo Mk2 here with me, but I am still happy as larry! I am by no means an expert on Escorts by the way, I can fumble through and know all the basics but have to admit that most of my knowledge has come from asking real experts in the past. I stripped and rebuilt the NA Cossie Tango myself which was a good learning curve, but BDA engines get farmed out to pros! mongol, regarding body roll...having three folks on one side of any car will drop the supsension? But if its real bad and rolls from side to side then its most likely your shocks that need upgrading. If its too soft then upgrade the springs also. What a shocker does is just dampen the amount of bounce on your springs so wont really firm up any ride, it just evens it out more. Also adding a panard rod to the back axle will stop side to side movement/body roll? EP, not really a cruise type person to be honest mate. But I do intend going to as many shows as possible this coming season and also a few track days and hill climbs etc... Hopefully get to meet folks at some of these events? Jerm, no worries again mate. I like answering questions if I can. The engine in Tango is a full race spec Normally Aspirated 16V Cosworth (ie no Turbo). It is running on twin 48 DCOE SP's and had mad head work to be able to run without forced induction. Also the cams need to be upgraded with solid lifters and springs etc...It also had APE forged pistons to suit and was built from scratch for the car. The manifold is a hand made "Tnoy Law" up and over 2" race spec monster also. The V8 is a 3.5 Rover item and goes very well! Its owned by a mate now and he has done heaps of track days in it with no worries on the handeling front. The all Ally V8 is actually lighter than a cast steel Pinto! I painted Tango myself on teh front, but it looks better in pictures than in the flesh. The only other cars to have paint are the two I have here. My RS500 and 4x4 Saphires were mint origional low milage examples. never won any lotos, just worked hard and spent wise! CheeRS Dave...
  22. and this was just a week before I left, what a car this was by the way... I wish I had been able to bring Tango with me, it was an animal!!
  23. Aww bless yas! Is that the picture of me that you say is beautiful? LOL... Nah, I doubt it! Costs of build to date are 26K for the Mk2 and probably 30K for the Mk1, it also cost me 2K each to ship them over from the UK with me. So I suppose on the two cars I am sitting on bills for 60K, thats in stirling by the way...dont tell my mrs!! I was crazy enough to work overseas for many years in dodgy places so saved a few bob up, never won anything or been given any handouts, all hard earnt and well spent I say. Got bugger all left now though, even after selling 6 other cars before I left for NZ. Got me a nice house though so it aint all bad. Just before I cry over my old babies, have a look at these... All gone to new homes now, hope they are all doing well..sniff, sniff...
  24. I had different brakets on my Mk2 to fit the princess calipers to, mind you it also had differnt struts also? Still a good option, but have you felt the weight of the buggers!! The brakets I had are sold through Rally Design in the UK, they do all kinds of kits for fitting various brake options to Mk1 and Mk2 Escorts. They also sell all kinds of spacers, well worth a look. CheeRS Dave...
  25. I never thought about sealed units being fitted to an Escort, good point. Having never owned a square lamped Mk2 I was just guessing that they would be the same as the round ones??
