    Start up

Yea what everyone else said bout the black shit, you burn a litre of gas an you make X amount of water. Umm, new piston rings = heaps of compression = harder to start... havent put new rings in it lately have you

    1600 Xflows

And yea who cares about the cert? Only a escort owner or ex escort owner is going to know that a 1600's block is an inch higher than a 1300's, so who is going to be able to tell that its a 1600? Just say you reconditoned the 1300 and now it goes alot better. If that fails say that you were told by a mechanic that you wouldnt need to get it certed as escorts came out with factory 1600's using the exact same everything else so why would it require a cert? Thats what I'm going with

    1600 Xflows

Follow Mr Haynes an you'll be right Just mind you dont try and force your gudgeons out, sometimes they can be a bit of a mission and then the next minute they will slide free, take your time so that you dont leave any marks on them. Use plenty of grease/oil when putting things back together. Use the right torqe on all of the bolts etc. Take your time putting the sump gaskets on otherwise you will end up with a leaking main oil seal like I did Pretty much take everything possible apart and recondition it while you have the engine out and apart, saves running into problems later on. Get your cylinders honed or at least take off the lip that forms up the top and then roughen up the cylinder walls before putting your new pistons + rings in. Flush out the block and get new frost plugs. Howcome you aren't going to do anything to your head at the same time? It won't cost much to re-seat the valves using a drill and some valve grind paste.

6 grand? Which engine has it got? The 1600 pushrods will do 6000 according to the haynes manual. Not sure about the OHC engines but I wouldnt think it would be too much higher than that

    Escort probs

Yea what Kyteler said. When I got my engine the dizzy was 180 degrees out, ie was put on backwards. In which case you can just swap the leads round rather than fiddle with the dizzy. But by the sounds of it the dizzy has been moved around and you cant remember how it was anyway.

    Polishing wheels

Heh, I got one of each when it comes to rocker covers, black one and a chrome one. Chrome needs a tidy up though before I swap them over.
  13. spacie - a few of us here were discussing throttle cable brackets awhile back and we had to make our own because the 1300/1600 ones either didnt line up with the carb properly, or didnt bolt onto the new manifold in the correct place. So try a wrecker and if their ones dont fit, you might have to make your own or modify an existing one. Hope this helps.

    Polishing wheels

Use finer sandpaper and more Autosol Sux huh
  15. Thats what I did, nothing dodgy bout that, wire stays in there fine
  16. Damm I forgot about putting shortened springs back in Kyteler is right, shortened springs will give you no probs
  17. Borrowed some off a mate from school I think they are like 30-40 bucks from auto1 or similar place
  18. Step one. Take out strut. Step two. Find some nice meaty wire Step three. Twist loops of wire around the coils nice an tight in lots of places Step four. Remove the nut or whatever from the top of the strut, coil will expand very slightly until the wire tightens. Step five. Remove one loop of wire at a time, that way it gradually uncompresses and doesnt kill anyone. Thats how I did it, dodgy eh? Worked though. And theres no way that you can put them back in without spring compressors.
  19. Well Im not sure about 1100's but 1300's and 1600's definately have different pistons as jerm has mentioned. And no the cranks are not all the same, the 1600 crank is alot bigger, hence the extra inch in height of the 1600 block. If I was you, and wanting to eventually put a V6 in it, I would say, stick with the 1100 for now, put the bigger carb on it and maybe some cheap extractors (there is always some on trademe) and just enjoy that until your ready to do the V6 project. All up to you though Welcome to Oldschool, happen to have any pictures of your car?
