  1. Been fighting the weather this weekend, managed to get the boat cloth done. resins mostly set now but I'll let it cure over tomorrow as well then paint it in that same black epoxi enamel I used on the underside and wheel well's glad to get most of this chapter done, has a been a pain in the ass having to do it and put it back together everyday so I can get around. have had the whole front end apart 4-5 times now. started on the valance thing at the front. She's probably the worst panel on the car. tidied up some other parts of the body too. Pretty keen to do panel and paint next.. unsure of what colour.. upgraded the the ground straps too and cleaned the metal and add some petroleum jelly. Battery's not holding its charge as well now it's colder
  2. Cheers! Haven't got that far yet so wasn't aware I could
  3. Motivation was definitely lacking this weekend and bugger all was done. telling my self it's to cold for epoxi to cure properly haha drew a crude wiring diagram. was going to incorporate it into the factory stuff but CBF with that shit storm, also means if I got to sell the setup it's all complete and can literally bolt into any 4cyl car. Picked up a fuse & relay box off Ali for 10-15 bucks from memory, seems well made. thermo switch for the rad for $7.76 think I've got some relays and fuses from a car a wrecked so that'll save some $ just need a fan and rad, maybe use the Aw11 one for extra free bonus. be sick to build the whole system for less then $500 fucking wheel bearings gone again. Going to get wheels rebalanced and a wheel alignment. If it happens again I'll haft to buy daily, piss' me off cause aside from that it's been a trooper of a daily
  4. Have inherited a couple blacktop motors so the aw11 will get a BT 7A so all the snazzy 16v stuff will get put in this motor. 272/267 cams Toda valve springs Full ARP and billet oil pump Picked up some carbs and manifold because I'm impatient as fuck and want to run the 7A before cert Heads at the shop at the moment, blokes taking his sweet time so hopefully I get it back soon, although I still need to sort Ignition (hyperpac most likely) and extractors Picked up some 3pc 14" wheels I can daily on and fit a decent RCA in as well so those should be here next week. Put some new mintex pads in the front, on the inside pads the bottom edge of the pad sits out a bit (only half a mm sits in the clip) and is pretty much only held in by the piston. Think the brakes brakets are a bit different between the new/old struts so I'll pull them off and shave a bit off so the brackets sits more centre to the disc, would hate for a pad to slip out on heavy braking. Also have an idea for a shifter relocator, purely for comfort reasons. With the current t50 I haft to lean forward a little for top shift. Both the short shifters on the t50 and the j160 unscrew like the picture so it could transfer to the j160 to move the shifter forward once that's in All draw something up and send it to a good bloke down the line
  5. New under seal under the guards at the A pillars is done. Three coats of the epoxi stuff all the way up to the windscreen. Weathers been mint for getting it to cure witch is awesome and making it quicker Guards can go back down now and with the struts etc back in, go back on the ground Going over the car it seems the dizzy is leaking, possibly the cam cover gaskets to As I expected the 3A dizzy is very similar to the 4A dizzy and the Orings are the same size Luckily I've got loads of new genuine Toyota ones already (AW11 cooked repco ones on track days and oil would seep down onto the headers and smoke like fuck) Unfortunately my marking on the dizzy came off and my timing is now in limbo Setting to TDC I think I had it on the exhaust stroke and the battery died before I had a chance to swap it around.. FFS I'll give the cover a smear of gasket goop and clean it down to see if there's any other leaks Once the leaks are fixed I can clean up the trans tunnel and continue the under seal
  6. Finally, decent weather! Pulled the gaurds out, couple coats for west system epoxi and boat cloth A pillars will never rust!! Started on the new under seal. Black epoxi sealer, first time I've used this product but it seems pretty good so far. It's thinner then I thought but its intended that it's able to be sprayed on. Broken foot means I can't get to the workshop to use the compressor so I've just been using foam cut offs to apply it. Seems to be working well through. Managed to swap the struts and bled the brakes again Got a load of other stuff coming threw in the next couple weeks too
  7. You can run throttle after if response is an issue but will need to use a mag clutch and run bypass valves witch is more pissing around, ugly pipe work and $ Money to make that work would be better invested in a water/meth injection kit
  8. If you lens come off easily you could make new backing plate from thin ply and fibre glass to mount the LEDs to, then if you don't like it you can just swap your org backing with lamp holders back in
  9. Gutted to read about the motor mate! Just on a side note while it's in my head. With the accl pedal, for me it was a little to far away from the brake pedal to heal toe well I and I would sometime miss it and end up with a little compression lock here and there. While I changed the cable (fraid at throttle) I pulled the pedal out. It's not hugely strong and by putting it in a bench vice and tugging on it with some force (all body weight) I could bend it. Managed to get it exsactly where I wanted for heal toe position and was miles easier. Not sure of your preference but just a thought for when you get it back on the road. Best of luck with getting it back out there. If you need anything let me know, I've got odds and ends laying around. No blocks any more though sorry
  10. PS we should fully have a drag race in our 3A carinas haha
  11. Don't get me wrong! 3A would have been a good motor in its day and it does the job, you're seen how it pulls for me. I just need a bit more of a kick. Maybe I've just been driving to many modern cars. Wishing I kept the 2ZZ I had as that would have been perfect
  12. Yeah I agree, if it were a gtr or even an ST model it would be worth restoring to full trim. That and the 50hp 3A is pretty tiresome and it's really missing another cam and more carbs/throttles It's not gonna be butchered or hacked though, just not done how he would have liked maybe. It will retain the snazzy paint job he gave it though haha Pobbably sealed in a slightly more rustic state
  13. Picked up the new front strut assembly's Friday and swapped the springs and shorter inserts over. Pulled the other hub off the other strut (the one that didn't explode) Looking at the bearings between them, the one that let lose and the one that was still sweet, there's a huge size difference. The one that destroyed the hub being over twice the size. The chase had be pressed up onto the spindle and flared out. So I'm wondering if someone's put the wrong size bearing in there and when I've tweaked it up its gone to far up the spindle, and the bearing was set correctly but the chase was pressed on and caused friction witch is why the grease deteriorated then the bearing ate the hub as it was just metal on metal?? IDK but I'll fucking sure to get the right size and do both the new struts when I put them in. I had to cut the chase off the spindle witch wasn't to bad a job and I managed to do it well without nicking the spindle. The area the chase sits on is pretty rough where it welded it self on. I'm wondering if I could get someone to machine it nice again and then I can turn these struts into coilovers. Had intentions of giving the body some love but working 6-7 days a week is making it hard to get any longer jobs done that involve putting the car on stands. Hopefully I'll get some time free before we head into Christmas and I get swamped with work again
  14. Rack body 415mm Rack 555mm Bush bolts 255mm centre to centre Bushes 35mm wide
  15. Cheers man! I'm not sure yet, it would make more sense to use the plug to make a mold to make copy's/replacements It would haft to be two part though and I really can't be bothered haha Would need to stock up on wax etc and it's already cost me a bit so far To use it as the mold would mean to break it to get it out, witch also seems like a waste. That being said I've already got bonnet molds etc at mates places so really don't need anymore unless I could sell a decent number of them, cost/ finish quality/ demand and time these things don't seem hugely viable We'll see
  16. Some good news! I've found complete front AA60 strut assembly's! Wahoo! So I can get these jacked up rona struts out and get it to cosure hight In the build side progress is good Picked up a mint J160 with a short shifter Small port head, ITB's with RWD linkage Mold for a carbon intake plenum is nearly done. I've got some forged 7A rods and several sets of 4agze Pistons I'll haft to see how much gets skimmed off the head and the block before choosing witch Pistons as I've got 8:1 and 8.9:1, but the 7A setup means thoughts Pistons ended up giving higher comp anyway Something closer to 10:1 would be cool. High, but it's not meant to be a big boost build, more a responsive motor with usable power, with a little turbo just for a bit more kick. If it cracks 200hp if be happy as
  17. Yeah managed to pull it together and ended up parking in a road works bay on outside of the western. Then made freighting dash across 3 lanes not able to go faster then 30kph to get off at rosebank. Drove it back 30kph the whole way with hazards on, slow, tedious, and some what scary. Awesome info! Much appreciated!
  18. Sweet as. Sorry just thought ma61 hubs might bolt over or something. And thought Cressida might as I've been told the brakes etc swap over too. Think the struts I've got in it now are st141 and their good so I'll hunt down some of them. Cheers for the reply
  19. Yeah I know, as soon as that started happening actually I booked it in with a bloke for the following Monday. Made the mistake of "oh one quick drive down to the next off ramp to pick something up won't hurt" Ok so bearings and struts are all different between models. I'm told x7 chassis struts are the same so I guess I'm on the hunt for a whole assemberly. We don't think hubs off anouther XA6X might be the same??
