  1. Thanks to Threeonthetree I have got a second set of hubcaps to play around with. After a rough masking job and an even rougher rattlecan spray here is the result: And a before and after:
  2. I'm slowly tidying up the very sad looking engine bay one piece at a time, replacing/polishing parts and painting where needed. Iwill probably get the intake side all professionally polished when I figure out how to take it off. Half way through polishing up this rusty wiper motor cover my Dremmel died. That must mean I can justify buying an air compressor and all the gear that comes with. The car will be at the Auckland Triumph Car Club annual Show 'n Shine in St Helliers this Sunday morning. Could be worth a look if any of you guys are keen on your Triumphs. Expected turnout is about 50 cars.
  3. Glad to hear that. I get a bit of grief about my "non original hub caps".
  4. I've been told by a couple of people that these are PI hubcaps, and then some say the very late model TC's (78,79) had these from new. I have pictures of the car in the late 70's with these on them, maybe they were swapped early on, I dunno. A couple are a bit dented and scratched so I'm just seeing if there are any really mint ones out there.
  5. Any of you blokes know where to find a set of reproduction or used but in very good condition hub caps for one of these? My search has been fruitless.
  6. I have got the Triumph up at a westside thing Wednesday actually, was organised before I knew about the gig you guys had going. And yeah, Triumph can definitely be made available, preferably with a bit of notice.
  7. Are you putting some of the cars together for WestSide season 2?
  8. This sounds like a good cruise, was at this very Pizza shop last weekend on the 919 and can vouch for the quality of the food and beverages.
  9. Not a lot has been happening on the Trump recently (probably a good sign). All I have done is replaced the rear hand brake cable as the last one had stretched, the Triumph can now be left on hills unsupervised. Unrelated, a couple of photos of GreenTC and VKZAC out in Maraetai.
  10. Will be bringing the Triumph along assuming weather looks fine. If weather looks really good I'll probably be tempted to take the bike out to the Coro Loop instead.
  11. Replaced the right rear wheel cylinder. Imbalance dropped to 11% which is good enough for a pass. VTNZ WOF attained, happy owner.
  12. Picture-less update. Managed to get the imbalance down to 23% (has to be 19% to pass). After further investigation one of the Pistons had siezed in place , meaning the rear shoe wasn't getting much done. Back to Stirling Clutch & Brake on Monday it is. Hopefully the new part bring the imbalance right down.
  13. I've backed the adjuster all the way off on the good side, so I'll give the drum a good clean and a light scuff on the bad side as well as cleaning the brake lining itself as you suggested, hopefully its a bit glazed. The baking approach always worked prime on my bluebird for WOFs, but as is said above it doesn't actually fix the problem. If no difference is made I guess I'll have to replace the wheel cylinder on the other side and might as well do all the shoes. After that I guess it could only be a proportioning valve or bad drums. Knowledge of drum brakes = 4/5ths of FA.
  14. These ones are automatically adjusting. I think ill pull the left one apart, have a play about, and then bake the shit out of it.
  15. Maybe I should have replaced everything all at once. I now have an imbalance going the other way. The right brake is now the strong one.
  16. Just installed the new wheel cylinder and took the car for a road test. Braking is feeling a lot more firm and I can lock up the affected wheel under heavy braking. Hopefully this will mean a successful re-check.
  17. Just took her out for a road test. The car feels hugely different, that wheel was not providing any braking force whatsoever previously (according to the Brake Test Machine) and now I can lock it up under very hard braking. Feels a lot nicer to drive.
  18. Just bought a new hand brake cable as the last adjuster was rooted. The shoes have heaps of life left in them. Is it normally best to replace wheel cylinders in pairs? Or does it not cause an imbalance.
  19. Popped in to see Sterling Clutch & Brake, good bunch of lads who got one of these for me Hoping to pop it on tonight and take it in for another re-check on Tuesday or Wednesday morning, and then come to Wednesdays meet! Where do you guys get your WOFs? I'm guessing not the VTNZ?
  20. Legend, they reckon they will be able to get one in today and I can pick it up this arvo. Cheers for the recommendation!
  21. Images of the other lads cars for reference. No bloody photos of the VK, what a shag up!
  22. Beers and bogan commodore fun times in the VK today.
  23. Anyone know where I can get a new wheel cylinder for my Triumph? Replacement wasn't any good. Hopefully some where in Auckland or a place that offers one day courier.
  24. Turns out the reason I couldn't get the shoes compressed was that I had a spring flipped and it was fouling on a nut. Mph lack of experience with drum brake shows. Flipped it around, put everything back together and the tried to bleed all the air out of the replacement cylinder. All was going well until this happened The back of the cylinder sheared off completely. Always a risk with 40 year old bits. I've decided to buy a new one. Hoping to get one asap. ZebraDude recommended Strong Brothers on the shore. Anyone know what time they open on Monday? Or anywhere else I can get a replacement cylinder?! I'd love to get one on Monday or Tuesday if possible.
