  1. Should be a bit of fun, lots of noise and a bit of straight line speed once it gets going, will definitely still need the pedals for hills and starts. I'd like to make it "bolt on and go" and leave the bike as original as I can apart from new tyres , bearings and some brakes. And a new seat, its a bit lumpy. Initial thoughts are tubing sub frame, same colour as the bike while trying to keep it looking minimalist. Kero (jet a1) fuel tank parallel to the seat stalk, perhaps 4"alloy tube with a false bottom to hide the fuel pump. It drinks a lot for a tiny engine (350mls/min) so I wont be going for long distance records. Another oval or round tube to hide the ECU and battery and possibly the mini propane bottle (for starting) and run all wiring and tubing inside the engine sub frame, I hate seeing wires and crap everywhere. A quick release clamp around the seat and steering stalk to hold it all on, if that's what you call it. Will need to put controls somewhere. Open to suggestions on all of it, will do a couple of shoddy sketches and post them up.
  2. Buy them, put your boots on and grab a skateboard!
  3. More for shits'n'giggles really. Been asked what speeds to expect out of this with wild expectations , some of these jets will do 500kph+ on a plane, would be lucky to get 50k's on a bike though, possibly more with pedalboosttm. Lots more weight to push about and loads of friction to overcome. Its a mid sized unit with almost 15kg of thrust, bigger ones are available , up to 40kg at present.
  4. Thought I'd asist the pedals with this.
  5. Nice surprise, the gears still work and a cool changer on the handlebars Pedals look a bit worn and rusty and the bearings are probably poked
  6. Found this on a visit to Threeonthetree's shed the other day. Sweet little cruiser, just needs a bit of love. Bit of rust in the Rims, not sure if it's fatal or not, must be able to pick these things up with relative ease?
  7. Would be keen but my shed is more full of electronic shite, rather than car stuff, keen to see others though!
  8. I have a limited supply of 8 track blank tapes if any OS'ers have an 8 track machine in their car and want some music they can actually listen to.
  9. 8 track machines I picked up 4 machines recently, 3 that can record and one that is play only, in addition to this there were several boxes of tapes including some still in box new tapes. 2 of the machines were working, but again they were a mess and covered in nicotine residue. Internally they are all pretty good and most of the work required was just cleaning, lube, removing labels that had come of tapes and munched up in the mechanism and a couple of dodgy capacitors The exterior of all 4 were sticky Buttons needed a good scrubbing with Jif All clean and ready to go. One is an older version and still needs a bit of work, the bottom 2 are going sweet.
  10. Thought I'd start 1 thread with the different bits and pieces I work on from. Starting with... Here's a Playtape I found last week, it was covered in cigarette smoke residue so I stripped it down and cleaned it inside and out. Originally it was so covered in nicotine that it was yellowish Playtape machines are like small 8 track tapes (but with 2 tracks), they were only released for about 2 years when the format was made redundant. I have a 2nd machine that needs a bit more work but I should have that working as well in a few days
  11. Sorry 7VEN, didnt even notice your post. SFA going on at the moment while I wait for some bits to arrive, that said the desire to get out lately in the cold and wet has been waning somewhat...
  12. Cheers, looking forward to getting it back together, would be much easier if I would stop pulling things apart. Have done a little bit more lately, stripped the bars and had them powder coated, came up better than i expected as they looked like crap.
  13. I have nothing to worry about then...
  14. BTW, setting up a simple acid zinc setup, nice and easy and the electroplater is going to set the whole thing up for me so I can zinc away until my heart's content...
  15. Pretty much, nice simple read here, glad me mentioned it ! "The release of hydrogen atoms into a metal causes them to pool in microscopic flaws and tears. Individual atoms bond to form molecular hydrogen, which is then under pressure to escape and drives greater cracks into the metal. Eventually, the metal will blister and become brittle." http://exclusive.multibriefs.com/content/stopping-hydrogen-embrittlement/engineering
  16. Possibly Warned not to do it by an electroplater, he mumbled something like that. So you can reverse it by baking? I have a feeling that some of the quad bike bolts could have been HT and had already done it before being told this..
  17. Well here's a heads up, high tensile bolts must no be dipped in hydrochloric/ sulphuric acid as it changes their structure and weakens their tensile strength.
  18. Man of colours was a bit namby pamby anyway ; )
  19. I'm setting up a bit of an analog system, at present 3 of the 4 Reel to Reels are hooked up but what I want to do is get the 2 otari's up to studio spec/alignment as a mate has a bunch of studio masters that the takes are starting to break down, so we want to make copies of them before they're lost. I'm also adding in normal cassette dubbing and 8 track copying/recording to make use of the old 8 track car players that are sitting around, off of this of course can be dubbed into a digital format or vise versa. On the far right there's a turntable as well. With a bit of luck I may have a new Reel to Reel that will replace one of the Revox decks
  20. Some nice decks in that lot, especially like the 760 and 570!
  21. Here's my shed audio hidey hole, bunch of stuff to change around yet.
  22. Miss my old tape deck, made loads of awesome tapes with this machine. Manual Bias, the works..
  23. Depends on the deck you had to record with really, if you had a machine that could handle type II tapes then they came into their own, especially with high frequency response, I always liked type IV or metal tapes, chrome tape always sounded a bit brittle or glassy to me, metal tapes sounded a bit more natural and better bass response. That said, I loved chrome tapes until I found metal tapes. Just my humble option though...
