  1. Bike prep is going good. Might take it for a test ride this weekend And by ride I mean sit on it and make nang noises
  2. So dreamy! What a combo.
  3. battery was drained and i charged it back up, reading healthy voltage. also sounded fine when it cranked today so i think its doing its job. think stator could potentially be chooched eh, i will run a multimeter over this new reg/rec tomorrow to confirm its still ok, and then probably check the stator. its weird that a stator would blow the fuse instantly tho, could it be shorting out?
  4. we will rebuild today smashed in some new headset bearings, feels pretty nice up in there i tell ya. new tyres were fitted also. i went for Pirelli City Demons front and rear, both 3.00 x 18.tried and tested good quality road tyre, be interesting to see how it fears on the waikaremoana gravel.. Front rubs on the fender a little bit so i am going to have to grind down the side brace things. Still need to do a yambits order for rear sprocket, front brake pads, oil seal for kickstart, and air filter. then i will have accumulated everything i need to fully reassemble! fizzing!!!
  5. Wondering if anyone can give me some ideas, my GS450 recently shat the bed and fried the reg/rec. it drained the battery, would push start ok for a bit then wouldn’t push start at all. The coil runs off the battery so once battery was dead flat nothing it wouldn’t run at all. Replaced the regulator today with a similar model, off a GSX400E Of the same vintage. Same colour connections etc. after fully charging the battery, I started bike up and it blew the main fuse after a few seconds. Lights and ancillaries don’t seem to blow it just when the bike is starting/running. Any ideas on why it might be blowing the fuse? Have checked all the immediate earths and everything is secure
  6. That looks to be a fa50 tap, which are vacuum operated iirc. Fz are gravity fed taps, you should be able to find a chinga replacement for $10-20 shipped if you browse Ali or eBay
  7. Strewth accomm in gizzy is looking expensive, where is everyone staying and what have you paid? Waikanae beach is suuuper spenny on booking.com etc and no cabins left at the top 10. Either something else is on in gisborne that weekend or Oldschool is going to double the population for one night
  8. makes sense, might give it a nudge
  9. more progress these last couply weeks, ordered a bunch of parts which have arrived but still few more yet to come. todays job was fork seals, everybodys favourite. Yamaha's quality suspension components were on display when removing the old seals... yay for hoarding parts bikes! lots of rust and old fork oil sludge. now forks are back together looking a lot better than when they started. the stanchions came up alright with sandpaper and steel wool, the super rusty shit is gone but there is still a fair bit of pitting in spots, i am skeptical as to what the WOF man will say come re-vin time. i will just whack a pair of gaiters on in a half-assed effort at hiding it. bikes coming together! waiting for headset bearings to arrive this week, then can keep assembling bike. Then fit new tyres, rebuild carb, sort out front brakes, get her running and take it for a skid!
  10. do weekends work for most people ? could be keen to venture out to the Puketapu tav or somewhere similar one saturday arvo if that works
  11. yea hell yea lets get the moped pest club in full swing @Ash-he lemme know if you needa hand getting scoot together
  12. hello darling, it's been a while. i was a bit tossed up on the last bike. it was high kms, pretty rough and i was hesitant to spend a bit of coin on it, so cut my losses and sold it. GS450s are probably one of my all time fave bikes, and i was stoked on the above one, but it wasnt no 450 sport. the bikini fairing, racing stripes, throwing star wheels, the pinnacle of motorcycle design. so i held out, waiting for one to come up for sale, and low and behold one lazy sunday afternoon this thing popped up on trademe. talked turkey with the guy, agreed on a price and today i went and grabbed it. my word its dreamy. they have a beautiful sound when you open it up and plenty of mid range torque, i wont be losing my licence anytime soon being a 450, but its performance is nothing to be ashamed of. I will be leaving it as is, and tidying a few things up. the carbs need a bit of attention as it takes a while to warm up, and there is a slight miss in the middle of the throttle, then the usual maintenance bits like brakes, tyres and chain etc. and just ride the fuckin thing. Its mean
  13. what a wild weekend just been, PPSC clocked up 550 odd kms doing a return trip from Feilding to Kuripapango, on the Napier side of the Napier-Taihape Road. taking nothing but rural back roads through the beautiful inland north island, including plenty of gravel, suspension bridges and angry wife-beating cockys doing a shit job at moving stock, climbing some 900 metres in altitude along the way. To my pure amazement the MT50 rose to the challenge and sat at WOT doing 9000rpm all day with no dramas at all. considering 24 hours prior to the trip we had welded up a very pesky hole in my exhaust which has been an ongoing debacle. after being unable to weld up the hole due to its swiss cheese/rust construction, Blizzshop managed to tack a piece of steel over it. This thing is incredible. I carry a reasonably solid tare at 90 odd kegs, and this weapon sat comfortably at 65-70km all day and climbed hills at reasonable pace, showing no signs of weakness. There's something to be said about nanging a 50cc 2 stroke at its limit, sustaining minimal traction on a gravel road, one of life's greatest pleasures. It takes a lot of riding to keep it in the power band at all times and time your gear changes perfectly to maintain momentum up hills. Perhaps if i can be fucked i might track down a 17" rear wheel and swap the rear, it looks quite funny with the 19 front and 16 rear. And of course keep blasting gravel roads into the sunset. Pic dump for Fred
  14. Please swoon me with power station yarns @Beaver
  15. i got a better idea, drive them to the ball in EA wagon, wearing your pirate costume, and ramble on to the kids outside the hall that the EA is a future classic and a high quality Australian sports wagon, and that they will be the most desirable car in NZ. then they will look back on that night years later, being like, hey remember that old pirate dude at our high school ball who told us EA falcons were the next Mustang? he was right all along. /ling
  16. That loop looks dreamy tbh, keen for the Tuhoe Rod and Tackle Tickler 2019
  17. Yea now I’m in same island as this I am deffs gonna make it to wherever the ride is. I think the only person I know of who’s been thru waikaremoana is p8vete so would be a good part of the country to explore. Jugs of Waikato at murupara tav and perhaps a social geography lesson at Kaingaroa Village would also be interesting
  18. did someone say power station? lets do it
  19. Yarns about princesses over a couple ranfurlys
  20. Pretty keen to get some meet ups/events going on round the bay. I see there’s a few lurkers on here from round these parts. Even if your old car isn’t going would be good to have a meet up and yarn about gross cars over a few beers. @00quattro00 and I are often working on our old shit most weekends so keen to get something together. Who’s down? @Ash-he @Leebo3 and others
  21. gaw blimey, the frame and gubbins are back from the painters, was stoked on the three working day turn around. even more stoked on the finish! potato poor light pics dont do it justice, the finish is grouse. I went for a sandblast and then an epoxy chassis/industrial paint, its a decent coat and has a real nice gloss to it. cant wait to get it all greasy and yuck reassembling. If anyone was interested; frame, swing arm, brakestay arm, triple clamps, side stand kick stand to sandblast and paint was $200. Can thoroughly recommend Comac Industries here in Napier, good dudes who pine over classic bikes and have some rad solo speedway bike memorabilia around the office. Carb kit has arrived, waiting for my yambits package then she'll go off like a long tailed cat in a rocking chair factory
  22. mean. I need more pointless shit ill never use. i'll be there
  23. got round to completely stripping this bad boy, and is now a neat-ish pile of bits. got mildly overwhelmed looking at all the bits there wondering if i'll remember how it all goes back together. she'll be right jim so i have the frame bare, along with swing arm, brakestay, triple clamps and stands ready to be sandblasted and powdercoated. that will be next weeks mission. Then can finally begin the glorious task of putting it all back together! really going against the oldschool tradition and actually making progress on this. in other news, i have ordered a whole bunch of shit from Yambits, swingarm bushes, seals, sprockets and the likes, along with a carb kit. The arrival of these bits will coincide quite nicely with getting frame stz painted. i also spent today taking apart the front brake caliper and line. I thought at first that the master cylinder was good. but after trying to give it a bleed i realised it wasnt actually letting any fluid flow through. the inside looked like a Castle Street bathroom. Brown Jim put me onto one of these Aliexpress master cylinders, which could be had for a ridiculously good price. it arrived last week, i wanged it on and by gum she bled up and felt goooooood. Then i took apart the caliper and it too resembled a toilet in a student flat. But alas, a piston and seal kit are on their way. Lots of words! tldr? We're gittin 'er done
  24. A lazy, turd polishing afternoon. have some boring pics, bought to you by steel wool and wire brush and loads more i forgot to take photos of. the bike is slowly falling apart...
