  1. tell me about it! i need another parcel too. might get that one sent to the mother in law and get her to send it out in smaller pieces!
  2. shit yeah i have vernier timing gear too! forgot that haha. single chain, didn't bother with the double. liking the project though, i love cortinas and i love 2dr mk1's!! yeah it took longer for dhl to clear customs and deliver it from auckland than it did for burtons to get it there from the uk!
  3. cheers for the info. I've got all new bearings, A2 cam, +60 thou pistons steel rocker gear, twin 40's and flows. just need to work out a valve size suitable for fast road and i'm all set. i got my stuff from the uk too but in kit form ha all from burton.
  4. nice build. I'm building a 1500 at the minute for my mk2. do you know the valve sizes? are they stock or bigger? i'm not sure what to go with for mine i cant find standard ones anyway and have been looking at throbnozzle stuff online, and 105 speed but cant find much info on the uprated sizes. The machine shop said they can make them up easy enough but i cant find much info on them so i dont know what to ask for. all the tuning discussions and "guides" online are for the 1600 x flow. seems these aren't really messed with anymore.
  5. Tell me how much of a fool i am. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/46071-mighty-joes-english-duo-cortina-67-triumph-74/
  6. Still Smoking about in the old triumph. well the missus is. I've just placed a very large order with burton power. The Cortina should be seeing a tickled 1500 pre crossflow in a month or three. long way from home yet but rough spec is going to be 0.60 thou over pistons 10.5-1 comp, A2 cosworth cam, twin 40 dcoes 4-1 mainfold and everything that moves renewed. only thing i'm not too sure of yet is the final spec of the head. As you can't get the valves anymore the machiners reckons he can make some easy enough just let him know sizes, so i'll work out what i want and that'll be the last bit. gonna have unleaded valve seats fitted though. the list! and thats not everything! fuuuuck. ahaa. classic cars.
  7. cool i think that'll be the go for the start anyway, its a weekend toy i just want to err on the side of caution. cos i'm skint lol. and yeah 3 times output is an estimate as the engines still in bits, but the stock motor only put out 50hp and i'm hoping for about 120-130. it was also the increased torque and revs i was worried about. i'll get it stripped down and put up some pics anyway, should be next week sometime. cheers for the input.
  8. i messed around with cvh turbos for years in the uk and went through about 9 or 10 BC boxes in that time, they'd shit themselves in 2nd and 3rd usually when thhey came on boost. first gear only got mullered if you were doing too many burnouts on the limiter. They'd start making a hell of a grumble first though, and it was always the layshaft bearings that took the hit first. i switched to an IB5 box then which i fitted my lsd into and ran that one for 4 years no problems. its a common mod now for them, they're a 25 year younger design inside the same housing, with the main differnce being the bearings ( and different gear ratios but... i digress) so i thought that was a good place to start. i'm a real novice with gearboxes though hence this post, i'd sooner wave a magic wand at one than crack it open tbh.
  9. I was actually thinking of having to machinne the box to fit bigger stuff. you reckon a like for like size will be a good enough upgrade? i know gearbox upgrades usually mean a second mortgage too so yeah i was kinda hoping to avoid that area as much as possible ha. The toyota hiace thing was something i was looking at too tbh, and some 80's navaras were column change too. this is probably my best option if i grenade the ford one but in my mind its alot more fucking around with linkage, bellhousing and driveshaft etc.
  10. I am currently building a 1500 pre crossflow for my cortina and i'm looking at options for the gearbox. Its a 4 speed column change manual ( so quite rare and hard to replace i'd imagine) and the engine is going to be putting out about 3 times the original power, i dont want to be sweeping parts up off the road after the first donut. i know i could rip it out and fit a T5 floor change but i assure you thats not going to happen! i was wondering if anyone has any experience with fitting bigger / stronger bearings, to handle more torque and rpm. Am i mad?
  11. i was going to suggest torn diaphram in the fuel pump. the level shoudn't fluctuate. it should be 95% full all the time. since you've had it apart you should check all bolts for tightness too. it could be sucking air. although thats usually a constant issue, not intermittent. have you got oil in the carbs too? lovely car by the way. i love mine. really, really love it. they're so underrated and have so many features for a classic. i've never seen one that colour look as it should. the CHCH ones that colour are faded to fuck and resemble bile green. i get shit for painting mine blue and orange but i have no regrets. yours has history to your family thats cool, mine was a 1500buck fixer upper!
  12. She's been wof'd for about a month now, sorry about the lack of updates but i'm crap with that, the missus takes all the pictures anyway. finished it the wed night, wof thurs, straight through, up to kaikoura for the hop on friday. close! since then i've serviced it thoroughly and have been fitting finishing touches took it to marlbrough last weekend for labour weekend and she flew. 100k all the way, only minor issue was she split a rad hose and was weeping coolant because i disturbed it to flush the rad i reckon.but it was close to the end and i just cut it and reattached to get me home with a slight kink. happy days. . Its still not done but its close. can't get the chrome trim on the new windscreen seal so i think i'll have to glue it on. the painter has gone radio silent on the visor and i got a heart stopping quote for some new minilite wheels, so i'm gonna look elsewhere for now. few pics. feedback appreciated on the finish, colour scheme etc, good or bad. its been dividing opinions for 3 weeks now. love it or hate it lol. Joe.
  13. http://www.leenks.com/link517593.html I know its a follow on from the vid but I just saw this on leenks. Pretty cool.
  14. Not been updating this much but its all pretty standard stuff. cleaning parts, polishing parts, replacing parts, sourcing better replacements etc. Got the dash retrimmed a while back and fitted it today. not 100% happy with it. it has a heat shrink mark in the d/s corner and glue overspray on the other side. not a massive issue but fuck you pay retail for something you want a nice job done. i could've done it myself better but lesson learned. it looks better than before though. got a carpet kit ordered this week so i'll be stoked to get that in and get the floor covered. it'll give a huge moral boost i reckon. me and the missus want to do the Kaikoura hop on 20th sept. 7 weeks from now minus a week for a holiday we've got. eep. Give me some love and a kick up the arse to " Git 'er dun" please. Joe. Discussion. //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/46071-mighty-joes-english-duo-cortina-67-triumph-74/
  15. Cheers. I think i;m going to go with some 15" minilite/superlite style rims. probably with anthricate spokes and a polished lip. i've seen a set of 15's on a mk2 and i like the fit. S mags are also an option still, depends on budget, but i don't know how easy it is to find 14" tyres with a decent sidewall profile. i don't want baloon tyres.
  16. Cortina is coming off the road for a new engine once the triumph is warranted again. rings are gone and the carb leaks. not ideal but the missus needs a daily. yeah it'll be getting a pinstripe. also got a visor to go on but it's not ready yet. it came out so much nicer than expected. he did a really nice job for not alot of cash. gave him free reign on the stripe, just a few pictures to go off and this is what he did. Once the bumpers are on and the lights and stuff all fitted it'll look totally different again i reckon, relaly looking forward to seeing it with a face. chuffed to pieces with it. needs to harden up for a few weeks whilst we're rebuilding it and he's gonna have it back for buffing. you'll not loose it in a carpark anyway haha
  17. Fuck. Watch your retinas. She's bright alright haha. No missing it anyway. Love the colours, the sills were left blue at the request of my girlfriend who'll be driving it mostly, and the stripe is thicker than it should've / could've been. That was down to the painter. he tried a few and reckoned cos it's a wide flat car the thin one looked stupid. Love it. looks just comical having a triumph saloon in full racecar colours lol. anyways now the fun part begins..... Trusty old Hilux. Never even broke a sweat. Can't f**king wait to get some trim back on it. Discussion / questions / ridicule.. . //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/46071-mighty-joes-english-duo-cortina-67-triumph-74/
  18. Lola's painted. Should be ready for collection at the weekend hopefully, and he said build it up and he'll have it back in a month to buff it. This is straight out of the gun! she's looking SO GOOD can't wait to bolt some chrome back on and see how its gonna "pop" in the sun.
  19. with regards to the rego. My cortina which is a 1500 super is down as "ford cortina 1967" on the rego. you might be able to have the year there instead of 1.3.
  20. I'll try and make that, be good to meet a few faces
  21. Yeah 34mm choke, f8 55 idle jets, but these are a bit too big. It had 45s on there which were too lean but the 55s are wound right in. How much difference can 0.1mm make? Quite a bit apparently. I'd recommend looking at maybe f8 50s. 130 main jets with f16 emulsion tubes.
  22. The triumph is a TC, always has been. It was owned by a lady who's brother is a mechanic and he maintained it for years. It's superb mechanically I haven't really touched it, minor parts here and there but she's been a great daily. Cheers for the positive comments on the colour scheme, gonna get some quotes to lay the paint soon. Get Christmas out the way first though.
  23. Yeah it was mate ha, i was on my way home from the boss' workshop after working on the two, the cortina was still miss firing a bit then so i couldn't go any quicker. i was just cruising and enjoying the admiring glances
