  1. Yeah I tried googling to find pics on mounting rad for a pinto but couldn't find much So thanks BD! The rad is tilted slightly back the same angle as the engine, but that's because its on factory mounts Rad mounted inside mounts (towards grill) and shroud on outside(towards engine) Still have to get wire and gas for the mig Best place to get panel steel in CHCH? Notice the alternator top bracket? and the pulleys don't line up I don't mean it to sound like im whinging about faults, think of it as a mental note for future fixing
  2. Took radiator out today to see what was going on with the mounts Half the front crossmember is missing, will need to be boxed Also spot the quality of coolant Jobs to add to list: Gas and wire for mig get Panel steel get some damn antifreeze Looks like the engine and box will be coming out some time too, good chance to paint the bay while im at it Are Escort radiators 2 core? And are Cortina radiators 2 or 3 core? This one has auto cooler tubes in it so suspicions are raised... 3 months till I can start spending coin
  3. Looks Mint! Think they look better without side windows anyways Just remember it gets pretty dark in the back without Could you get a photo of where/how the radiator is mounted coz mine is so close to the engine the top hose rubs on the cam cover Edit: and you got extractors!
  4. And while I was rifling thru old photos An HPV made from a Raleigh 20 when I was a teenager
  5. Winch bumper I built for the Samurai Used old computer chair to get winch in good position then took measurements around it 4mm centre and 3mm sides Bent the 4mm top plate around the hook from an over-eager pull, so built uprights and pipes only for the purpose of exterior gussets as interior gussets were impossible due to the winch Test of the bumper, the front corner is all that's holding it up
  6. The dirty great hole that was hiding under the grill And the classy console made of steel complete with sharp edges, gaping holes and random screw holes Note the fuse box l/h side, and the door cards ha
  7. Did you get the white (I think it was white) one from TM with back seat? Im not too worried about the guards as the swage lines are right, I think only the edge surrounding the headlights are different, and that doesn't worry me because im keeping the twin lights so the grill wont fit anyway Some muppet has cut the two slots out of the front under the grill, and left a gaping rectangular hole ffs I just think those wheels wont suit the style (think modded Holden Sandman-ish) Its a Cortina 2.0L, I don't know what Cortina (think it might have Cortina loom as fuse box is passenger footwell not under bonnet. And type9 5 speed My first old Ford so I don't know what 2.0 (its not 205) Van was originally 1100/1300 auto (prev owner said it was 1200??) NZ new built in auck woop Edit: posted pic of the hole in build thread
  8. The rear bumpers are 1/4s with reverse lights in them like the front indicators, look good, the front has been cut in to 1/4s, doesn't look right RS wheels are a bit too contemporary I think Being a van like this in the 70s style its more forgiving to go ridiculous like Slots maybe, more like hotwires, turbos or maybe 1000 spokes with knock offs? lol I also think the van body has nice rounded mk1 lines with a mk2 front grafted to it, would like to put a mk1 bonnet on it and modify/change the slam panel to suit Maybe a capri long bulge? Theres a few other ideas but ill keep them for later Cant wait to get back from holiday and get started Lol how many ppl say they cant wait to get back?
  9. Hi Conrad This is a mk2 van so I wonder how mk1 discs ended up on it? There is small rub marks on the struts from the tyres (maybe pre-spacer) and there isn't much space. I think the rims need more offset anyway coz it doesn't look quite right even with the spacers. Havent decided whether to keep the green Modgies, chrome them, or go for something else. Anyway that's in the future and I wont have any money until after the USA trip Nice on the van acquiring! Cheers Richard
  10. Yeah it is. Lumpy cam or the carb needs a good clean. Type 9 box which hits the tunnel at the back of theshift tube, diff points downward wtf? ??tiny front rotors that don't fit the calipers properly I plan to get the running gear sorted out first before starting on the interior. Asked the wife for her input, she suggested I push it off a cliff It could be worse she could have told me to drive it off lol Did you go and look at it?
  11. Ok so let me know your thoughts //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/43864-mofs-1979-escort-panel-van/#entry1335745
  12. So it came with blue neons and LED strip underneath, that was the first to go And I removed the grill when I got a chance Figured out the headlights are Gen1 Accord, they fit pretty good on the slam but stick out the front a bit and the old buckets have been removed and covered over. So ill be looking for some Accord headlight surrounds in the future, and fit the ford grill between them. Pulled the front wheel off last night as I had some spare time to fuck around The wheel bearing was loose and rough (I don't know how it got its last WOF coz ive found a few other things it should have failed on) and I found this Sooo what/where are these discs from? Only about two thirds of the pad are on the disc, so at some point when the pads wear down the pads would touch and have no brakes... I also found theres wheel spacers behind the front wheels, but the wheel spacers are just loose and I think its putting off the balance coz they are not centred. Because of the spacers the studs barely poke out thru the rims aaah Maybe I should be posting in failed mods lol I relocated the aerial as it looked silly
  13. Discuss //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/43865-mofs-1979-escort-panel-van/ Hey OS This is probably going to be a long slow process but ill try post when I can Because we're going to the US later in the year I don't have any moneys to spend on it yet, so im doing what I can for free Bought this van about a month ago Most of the hard work has been done, the panel work is pretty good but the wiring and running gear is not good There's a couple small bubbles of rust, 1 in the r/h door front corner, and one on the corner of the bonnet. I haven't found anywhere else...... yet Heres some starting photos, I borrowed these from the old owner as they are better than dim lit garage pics. Someones modified the dash and made it a 5 dial And this isn't original right?
  14. Has the dizzy been out lately? is it at 1 with 1st on compression?
