TBH most of Jaycar's products are China spec items that have been branded.  I've compared a few things from them and Aliexpress/Wish and they're identical but cost about 10x as much.
If you want Deutsch connectors, Repco can do the Narva ones, and can also get Hella ones. They're great but expensive.

Jaycars auto electrical stuff can take a flying leap into the bin, genuine deutsch  connectors are actually  quite reasonably priced (given i do have wholesale prices from non retail suppliers) ,  just dont buy them from retail outlets like repco , for anyone interested I  can price them up  along with the budget home level proper 4 indent crimp tools

  2. beware of chinese junk knock offs, they  look similar but they cheap out on the terminals and end up with fuse holders & terminals melting from poor connection, stick  to  something known like the painless or the kruzin ones

Been keeping busy while under the weather with the Coronavirus

Finally my summit order showed up. I’m a bit embarrassed that I didn’t realise Japrace in Chch sells the AN fittings for pretty much the same price. Won’t be shopping American again, especially with the exchange rate as it is. Had to go into japrace to do my panic shopping. Got a fuel pressure gauge and some hose and fittings.

Fuel line looks pretty tidy now. It’s -8 between the rails but only -6 from the pump. Just trying to save on fittings, the rails were -8 female.

for anyone doing an engine swap (with EFI) the Corvette FPR/filter is a great little number! Mine fits in place of original massive filter under the bmw. Cheap too. Saves running a return from the rails.

Started pulling bmw loom apart to see what I can biff. I want to retain a few sensors I think, so that dash works normally. Shouldn’t actually be too much of a mare. Will get commodore loom modified by someone way more special than me.

Stocked up on piss for the apocalypse. I got fucking smashed last night on red wine and working from home today is not great.

I reckon this lockdown is going to be one of the best things ever for productivity on oldschool. Will certainly be helpful for me. Sadly I’m still working full time (we build/fix hydro power stations) but I’m sure I’ll manage to sneak out to the garage every now and then!

    Stay safe out there cunts!

@spanners BMW wiring is so fun isin't it haha, iv got to  do  an e30 with an m54 swap soon,  back to the topic of LS tho,  Im assuming your using the factory LS ecu to run it, give me a shout if you want to get your ls loom sorted to  standalone and ecu setup, its what I do as a sparetime job.

  4. the 4l60e and vt ecu requires the speedo input to control the transmission shift points and also idle control on deceleration, without it you'll be stuck in limp mode, the sensor is a hall effect to the ecu, the ecu outputs a scaled pulse to drive the speedo,  the 2 common ones iv used for conversions are the dakota unit and, the speedhut speed box (alternately could go speedhut electronic speedo or similar

  5. brown wire is the alternator light. wire from ignition feed thru a diode thru a light and to  the brown wire.

white is the alternator voltage sense, ideally wired to  the battery + terminal (can be looped to  the alternator + stud)

let me know if ya have any problems getting your standalone setup  going, been a while since i done that one.

  6. vn/vp auto & manual ecus are the same,  just memcal programming varied,  they are even the same between v6 and v8  trusty old delco 808. I do heaps of them for engine swap setup. VR series 1 loom and ecu will also run the vn engine.

Hoist question, I’m wanting to put one at mine but would need to be outdoor on slab like yours.

what did it cost you? You get a company to do all of it and sign it off?

dose the hoist need a cover or is it fine outside?

    cheers

I done the concrete myself, im on swampy ground so has 5x 3.6m piles concreted in under the center area with a 200mm thickening and 200 thick ring beam footing around the edge of the pad, was almost 4 cube of concrete which worked out about $900, hoist is a motorex base model $2100 delivered,

So far been mint just keep it lubed well with spray grease, made a weather cover for the hydraulic pack and is all good

  8. Well back on the dyno at protune yesterday, made some good power (175rwkw 445nm at 11psi) but found an oil leak, seems like this car just dont like dynos haha, at least i was only cleaning up an oil puddle on the dyno and not engine pieces

Got home and checked it out, pulled the clutch dust cover...bonus its not the rear main rope seal.

Waiting on an engine support bar to arrive and il drop the sump clean it up Gonna weld in a couple of sump breathers and go to town with the rtv

Oh and all before drag day...

  10. assuming its got the standard 25d4 lucas dizzy (like my old 73 had),  you  can buy off the shelf electronic conversions for the factory dizzy  as they are the same internally as every other mini blmc etc 25d4 dizzy, nice and easy swap to ditch the points

  11. Hey  All

got a broken 83 corona decorating my lawn at the moment,  my mate brought it with a blown auto (previous owner rotated the rear tyres too rapidly).

we have replaced the burnt up clutch packs and steels in the trans, now have somehow stuffed up the valve body/ throttle valve and it drives but wont shift out of 1st. (it shifted before we took it apart)

anyone know their way around these transmissions or have a decent schematic of the valve body  transmission is an Aisin warner 03-50   A40D 3 speed  + O/D

pic of actual car,  (may be for sale soon)
