  1. So jealous of this car man it's so epic.. My mum had one of these as a daily when I was a kid, I learnt to drive in it and then they sold it when I was 14 so gutted.. Good on ya for persevering with classic alfa idiosyncrasies / falling apartness

So I should have been working on this thing more lately but haven't spent much time lately where I keep it and when I did make it there this weekend the escort decided to work for a change so I took it for a drive... So that was awesome, I think that since it has a warrant for another month I better make the most of it, who knows when it will be road legal again! This last photo is why I should be pulling the interior out, the carpet is very worn out and moldy but I'll get round to it soon...

  11. Hey, I've had this thing for 12 years now so thought I would show OS what I'm up to... (sorry in advance for the iphone photos) It was my first car and have held onto it since, when we bought it, it had the same paint job as now but was standard otherwise with a 1600 in it.. Since then the first things we did were mk2 front struts / brakes and a weber twin throat carb.. A few years later we added series 4 rx7 seats, a 1700 xflow with 40mm dellortos, a 1600 sport gearbox and the hotwires.. And most recently which was a few years ago now were princess 4pot calipers and a T50 gearbox that was found at the wreckers with a custom bell housing to suit xflow... Other than that it's been a mixed life of daily driver / parked up getting rusty.. Anyway some more photos in it's current state I'm removing the interior at the moment to tidy the floor up.. Finally have a garage to park it in too after years of it sitting outside so I have some new window and door seals to throw in there as well From what I can see so far the floor doesn't look too bad, I'm expecting some surface rust etc... I was able to get Josh aka Mr mk1 to work his magic on most of the rust last year which has been epic, he did such a good job.. Progress will be kinda slow at the moment as the car is stored at my partners which is 45 min away...But at the moment motivation is high to work on it when I can..   15. Hey so have decided I want to do this properly and get some adjustable front struts made up.. So I started by going into stocks and that is where my confusion has started... They want me to provide a bunch of measurements ie distance from bottom mounting point to top mounting point with the car in the air, the same again but with the car under it's weight or static, the insert marked with a cable tie in the air and then with where it ends up on the ground and a rough measurement from mounting point to mounting of what I imagine the final ride height to be... This is a bit beyond my minimal knowledge so any info would be helpful, I assume these measurements are for working out insert length to strut tube length? I already have a pair of mk2 struts for them to convert which have had their lower spring perches removed but always thought that the thread / sleeve would slide over this and just be welded on end of story... As you can tell I know little to F all so if anyone has an easy way to work out, explain or has done this before for a mk1 escort I'd love to know more cheers... Nick

  17. The car already has cert for front seats, gearbox and 1600 xflow among other things and includes for lowered suspension, just not adjustable suspension which is lame.. I did some measuring last night and I would be looking for a drop of min 50mm to max 75mm if it's gonna be possible which is a big drop so coilovers are looking more likely the go.. (the car is freaking high at the mo 150mm of the ground from the rails) And if adjustable camber plates do come under the need for a cert well then it's deff looking like the coilovers are the way to go, are thoses threaded sleves / platforms on trademe anygood?
  18. Hey, there's probably a thread for this already so if anyone can send me a link to it that would be sweet.. What I'm wanting to know though is what are most people's recommendations on here for a decent front suspension setup in a mk1 escort? This is a road car which I want to look good at a decent height but handle well too.. ( I am a bit of a noob and don't know too much technical stuff ) My first option is to get some shortened inserts and king style or custom springs with camber plates etc I think I'm looking in the region of $600 - $700 all up for the front going that way.. Or Get some adjustable suspension made up at a possible cost of $600 - $700 per side plus cert costs. Does this sound about right? I want the car to sit approx. 100mm or thereabouts... Any advice or info on what others have done with their escorts would be appreciated.. Cheers Nick

  20. So this topic prob already exists on here somewhere but I'm gonna ask anyway.. I've been looking around for a panel beater in chch that will work on my escort, most say no. It isn't very rusty and has always passed warrants so is not major (I hope) but I still want to find someone who would be keen to work on it. Can anyone local on here point me in the right direction / no of one or anyone I can take it to just to have a better look? Cheers Nick
