Error 404, layshaft bearing not found
Looks like the towing let the layshaft push forward and blow out the front cover, yeah carnage!

As for the globes and hankooks, it depends how bogan you want the VL to look!

Ill trade you for a VL steering column? I did a (debate-ably) bad bad thing on the weekend
-
Sacrilege to remove the hankooks! Ive got a couple of sets of relatively low offset BMW e39 M5 replica 18s If you wanted to try them on? Annnnd I found a VL group A bonnet scoop in the garage.....

Sooooo you know how I said the gearbox sounded worse after lugging that heap of shit silvia about....
I then proceeded to lay a giant gear oil pentagram on Surfabs driveway, DW I cleaned it up.
Theres the man himself, strapping the dieseasaline down to his swanky new trailer so he could kindly tow me all the way from Woolstain to the town of the future.
Looks like the next step will be happening sooner than anticipated, more cogs for ultimate cruising efficiency.

Hello, been slack, including taking photos.
As mentioned last post, r32 front are no good for R30 rear so I needed to get something else, enter (first) parts car
Wife wasnt particularly amused when I said I was going to check out a diff and returned with a bare rolling shell (read race car) but for $200 who can complain.
The shell has a locked r200, disc brake rear, healthy rear shocks with lowered cobras, s13 front subframe and hubs (excellent) 3 16inch mags (scrap reimbursement) with good tyres and one steely with a brand new Supercat, not bad for $200.
Swapped in the rear suspension and replaced my worn out tyre with the Supercat, YAY WOF!
After missing out on some incorrect offset Watanabes these popped up
Ive always been a fan of mk1s, unfortunately it appears the higher offset pair may be beyond repair. It looks like the mount face it no longer true, or the wheel face is buckled. Time will tell I suppose. Sold the silly tyre size to @Fresh For WOF/skid purposes.
Also, acquired some potential future suspension components.
Photo proving the ER30 fucks
Although the gearbox sounds even worse after that.

Weekends updates:
I did effectively waste $275 on parts as it appears the actual gearset wear is the cause of the noise (322000kms will do that though). Oh well, its got new bearings.
Stuck an old race muffler on in place of @Slacker_Sam.s straight pipe, which made a marked improvement.
And Ive also determined that the R32 front shocks aren't quite the right height (trailing arms are bottoming out) and definitely aren't the correct spring rate, even the diesel makes the rear end squat terribly.
Back to the drawing board.

What a good idea Scott, one dr30 sedan per island @0R10N this ones an 83 non facelift though.

I'm also glad you ended up buying this car. it saved me from buying it
I too suffer from this very affliction. Speaking of anyone here interested in a Silver over black DR30 Turbo sedan like @0R10Ns, a friend has just imported one....

if you want to come and look at how mine is setup/take it for a hoon you are more than welcome to. also if you need R30 parts I have a parts car I bought for the LD28
Yeyeeh Very much so!

I was motivated for an hour or so after work,
diffsplosion
The bearings werent as bad as Id suspected, so hopefully I havent just spent $300 for no reason. I checked the wheel bearings and driveshaft centre hanger while the diff was out and theyre all quiet, hopefully it was in the diff and not just a second noise from the transmission transferring down the body. I tried to scab a subaru r180 LSD nugget off a mate but hes hoarding them for his silly drift subaru.
Bam and the diff is one
Just gotta put in the axle seals and stick it back in the car now.

I haven't built it yet but was thinking of copying @- i5oogt -s setup with a TD03. I think a T25 is a bit larger so more lag, roll coal, and boost. All of which would make the car more awesome. I might be keen on buying a T25 off you when the Cedric is running.
After doing a bit more research, apparently the GTR turbos are a 0.48ar on the exhaust housing with a 62trim wheel. Apparently the stock turbo LDs also use a 0.48, so Im happy to give it a go. The price is right for the turbos at least, considering I already have 4 of them. Twin turbo LD anyone?

Nothing Major this weekend, went in all guns blazing and lost interest after getting a pile of dirt in my eyes (which I assume came from Hanmeet)
New Diff bearings and front shocks
Hoists make handy for additional garage space
Diff out, dirt face
I might make the effort to actually do the rebuild this week..... maybe....

"RS-DIESEL" stickers on the rear doors would be a laugh.
Already planned! Sohc RS- Diesel was what i was thinking.

Surprisingly a mate just spent a mint on new Watanabes and they look like they were cast by a blind man in a dark shed. Unfortunately budget is a concern, especially if someone is likely going to end up trying to steal them.

Just as well I have a history of adjusting Kyteler!

What turbo is on yours? I do have a few GTR t25s floating about the garage.....

Im picking up what youre putting down, but I think it needs bigger than 15, because of stupid giant front arches.

Good jerb man! I told my mate that someone in the South Island was building an Iron Mask diesel R30 sedan and he got faux-stroppy because that was always going to be his pet project, hah.
This is a neat car. Drove it at Hanmer and somehow found enough restraint not to buy it on the spot, such an easy thing to drive and with a surprising amount of oomph for an oilburner. Brought back fond memories of punting around in my DR30 sedan, which @Brdflu keeps telling me I should really stop neglecting and start working on again.
As old man KY says, there's a bit of surgery involved to fit the nose, also you may need to buy some facelift bumpers and tail lights to complete the look.
I agree with Scott, stop neglecting the wedge.

Sooooo, I may or may not have got a little carried away while browsing Yahoo auctions for r30 parts...
It all started when I found this:
And it quickly escalated
And as a bonus (which I didnt realise at the time, the side skirts have rear corner caps too!
FIZZING! they should be here in a month or so! Unfortunately now I cant afford any wheels... Would people hate me if I ran widened steels for a while?

edit: also some motor honey like moreys stabiliser or its lucas equivalent won't fix your diff, but will shut it up at about 30% by volume (only for open diff, will probably wreck an lsd)
But $300 worth of bearings should! Although now I think of it(read: you remind me I have some in the garage) Moreys for the gearbox it is!

After a thorough examination on the hoist, everything seems to be in order. The body is really sound which Im extremely happy about and aside from some small oil leaks, tired glow plugs, the gearbox chatter and worn diff bearings (which @Slacker_Sam. told me about) its fairly mechanically sound too.
After finding the RH rear makita one way was not quite as captive as originally thought
and that the lower bushes on the rear shocks were in fairly average state, I got into my first free mod, using the original front shocks from my old Autech 26 R32
A quick tophat swap and viola, new(er) healthy springs and shocks.
No droop required
Soon Ill tell you all about getting carried away on Yahoo.jp

Turbo is on the consideration list, initially I was tossing up the idea of a VQ30 with itbs but Ive fallen for the diesel.
Igor, mudflaps have been deleted!
Im glad it was only a consideration!

Slow day at work, so I can show you the R30 trying on some shoes. After trying some 15s I think 16 or classic style 17s are going to be the go. The front arch is huge so Ill need a bigger wheel to make the car look better - arch gap is the enemy.
These are 15x8 +10, the rim fits nicely on the front axle but i think Ill need stronger offset on the rear.
These are 15x8 0, which are ideal on the rear. Check out the mad race tyres.
MOAR LOW required!

Right, I'm back again, to actually make a proper effort at a car, unlike my KE70 that I abandoned after a week.
The R30 pine has been strong as of late and after sharing my pine with Scott (Brdflu) the week after Hanmer-nats he pointed me in Slacker_sams direction.
A few Facebook messages and a 40 minute plane ride(stupid pencil planes) and BAM!
Glorious! Topped off the tank with diseaseline at 6.45 in Motueka, swung past maccas and left at 7pm. 5.5hrs chugging through heavy rain, I was lucky theyd cleared the Lewis of the Spring snow fall that closed it the night before :S 461km from Mot to my door, didnt miss a beat!
Safe to say the already noisey diff is making even more noise now though.
On with the project!
