  1. Nah, the original put a leg out of bed after 8k redlining. That motor is from some parts that we picked up(I'll keep it for a spare block just in case), the auto out of the silver 121 I just sold. This car originally came with and rx5 5 speed which is going back in along with a genuine rx5 diff, not sure if its lsd or not, never checked.. She looks awesome from 5 or so meters hahaha, from half a meter you can start to see "issues" but I dont think I'll worry about paint for a few years or till it really starts to look shit, which ever comes first..
  2. Gave it a clean, it amazes me how your brain forgets the little thing over the years.. removing the dust revealed a 6/10 paint job, lots of little nicks, stone chips and a couple of pressure dings etc, still looks good but the fine tooth comb is more revealing.. some pics black interior, center console is def different from 78 model
  3. cheers.. yeah its pretty sweet, the only one I've ever seen with black interior. Not sure if its classed as a series one as def has some small differences from the latter years, gonna give it a clean today and maybe go pick up the engine/box and diff.. build thread.. https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/33436-1976-mazda-121-mat-resurection/&
  4. Ok, time to start another project thread.. just drove my 121 back from storage with the plan to revert it to its former glory which, wont really take tooo much, fingers crossed.. Discuss.. https://oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/33439-yetchh-121/& Former glory (circa 1999) present day, back in the garage after a 10 year hiatus.. felt very dodgy driving with one headlight and lapsed reg and some crazy grinding noise from the rear.. anyway, pics Temporary storage.. Back home.. 12 years worth of dust.. what it had was a turbocharged 2.0 Ma, rx5 5 speed.. standard had about 80hp, not sure what it had after we turbo'd it but it was lethal. So that engine has also been in storage and looks a little worse for wear externally but has only done about 2000ks after a rebuild (leg out of bed) so should be ok.. the whole lot (including the silver 121 on trademe) was gonna be sold, blue one put back to standard with auto but no buyer could be found for the price so into storage it went.. until now..
  5. shit bro, you dont waste any time, the 51's shadows hardly dimmed in the storage unit and your already painting the firewall.. if I shut my eyes I can still see it there..
  6. always a problem with older motors.. there is always a 4cyl diesel
  7. How hard is to rebuild the 23? Even to pull it apart and check..
  8. you could also ring Solly's, thats the local GB freight company, see their trucks down here a bit so must do chch deliverys.. for the cost of a trailer the time and the gas it might be more economical..
  9. def keep it fatory.. whatever it came with
  10. It'll be some very slow progress bro, dunno about 1st as I have at least 2 years of sorting three other cars first haha.. the busy life of a classic fanatic this photo is of a mates 100% original in oz, its what it should look like
  11. cheers fellaz, every month or so I kick myself for buying such a heap of shit thinking why would I bring this on myself, but buying one of these cars wof'd and reg'd doesn't always mean the rust isn't present, these things rust like its going out of fashion, even my gold wagon has these issues, drivers side nearly as bad as the landau but from the outside it looks totally mint, I'll start another thread with that one at some stage as well.. as stated it will be pretty much a new car when I finish, but since they only made 1300 of them and they have all the GT running gear bar the 4v 351c, I think ultimately it will be worth it..
  12. Hah, not a beater but am keen and still thinking WTF was I thinking, plus, they're kind of easy once you get in there and pull them apart.. just a few spot welds.
  13. Thats what I need to know, you have any contact details by any chance do ya?.. yeah back in "paradise", 3 quakes later...
  14. that would be awesome bro, sedans and coupes have the same floor pan, wagons too, from the back seat forwards.. i'll somehow have find something rust free, if there's any such thing..
  15. yeah i loved that truck, spent heaps on it and sold to my mate before i left and he fucken blew it up then sold it for stuff all dick.. karma got him tho, he ran his 2002 Cherokee out of oil a week later hahaha
  16. as an etch primed shell under a tarp in my garage.. its, very long term..
  17. its only dry in the desert bro.. and maybe in summer..
  18. the stupid thing that really fucks me off was three came up for sale here in nz within three months of me buying that heap of shit and all went for under NZ18k which is getting close to what ive spent on it including getting it home... faaaaark
  19. haha yeah tell me about it.. sat in a field in outer melbourne (boronia) from about 1990 till i bought it in 2009
  20. ok, so thats a bit arse about face but you get the general idea.. etch primed is how it sits in my garage under a tarp, but thaks to the shitty salty air out here its already getting surface rust.. and nothing will be happening on it until i finish all my other cars which, by comparison, are a fucken small walk in the park.. struggling to find any sort of decent parts back here in nz which cuts me up a bit too, so if anyone knows anybody who is wrecking any of the xa xb xc series sedans or coupes could they let me know.. chur, thomas
  21. took the heater out the other day, got some rust pics.. passenger side.. passenger floor.. drivers side.. on sat i'll be finishing the last of the tasks the i have to perform on goldie (reco front suspension and brakes) so i can finally fill the rest of my space up with bits.. i will also be purchasing my mig this week and start drilling some welds out... i think the best option is for me to try and purchase a rust free XB front cut with which to replace all of the rusty ones in my landau.. wish me luck.. cheers, thomas
