    cracked pistons

your half way there, you may as well put in new pistons and rings, and be done with it, you'll probably also need new head bolts now that you have taken the old head off ( most diesels need them when the head comes off)
  4. sweet, thats good news i looked on the diagram and it has them listed, but i guess it was an option in 63, as there is no wiring at the back, on the bulb holders, or at the steering column (where the original 3 on the tree was located) i'll leave as is then, mucho thanks oldschool boffins, much appreciated
  5. hi guys, do old cars have to have reverse lights?? all i can find is that if they have them then they either must come on automatically with the gear stick, or that they can only come on when the head lights are off, my car has no wiring in place for reverse lights, its been through plenty of warrants before my ownership, but that doesnt mean much as they passed it with no window wiper squirter, and the headlight switch was a wire you pushed into a hole
  6. bugger, sounds like you got a bit of a lemon, do the basics first, rad cap, thermostat etc but that bloody 4d56 motor is a notorious for blowing, as you already know by the looks, i'd be tempted to look about for a replacment engine (not 4d56) and put that in, i was going to put a Mercedes-Benz OM611 engine in mine if it ever blew again, but poor delica got stolen instead
  7. http://www.mediafire.com/ or www.4shared.com/ are both free places to upload, and the files never get deleted
  8. how many kms on the clock, most go at around the 250000km mark, i replaced the long block on my delica, bloody expensive to do on a cramped van, once the head gasket goes once they seem to do it over and over, the bolts stretch and it never seems to run right again, do the radiator test, but my money is on the head gasket
  9. yeah no drams, i drove my old subaru leone for about a year with no power steering, f knows how it kept passing warrants
  10. you could try http://www.cryptontechnology.com/en/downloads and contact them to see if they still have old manuals on file
  11. well the 3.3 had a good shake down, i drove to wellington and back over easter, 4 adults, a boot full of luggage, towing a trailor and a 300kg bike, i had to do a couple of tweaks to the clutch actuation on the way down, when initially the adjustment arm loosened off, and it wasn't quite engaging the clutch fully, and then again in wellington, when id tightened up a couple of bolts too tight and the clutch wasn't disengaging properly, no dramas on the way home, and total repair time was less than 10 minutes, so pretty impressed, the car happily would do over 100kmh fully laden with trailer even running the smaller 2.6l carb (still waiting on accelerator pump for the 34 wiat carb) pics of te car in wellington on the rare sunny days i used about 1/2 a litre of oil for just over 1000km and about 120l of gas (24mpg bugger ) still got a long list of stuff that needs to happen before im completely happy with the car, but its a good start

    carb issues

ok just for reference sake, it was the accelerator pump, \new one ordered from http://www.gowerandlee.co.uk/ they have loads of spares for most carbs

    carb issues

hey guys, i am having some issues with my new carb, basically i was running a zenith 36 carb from the 2.8l engine, because the zenith 42wiat from the 3.3l motor was buggered and jamming, so bought another one and changed all the jets over, any way, at idle its sweet as a nut, but if i w.o.t. it, it just bogs down and stalls, how ever if i slowly open it up, it revs freely im gathering its something to do with the main jet or possibly the accelerator pump, any bright ideas?? mucho thanks
  15. right, managed to get away from work early today, so went to my local bmc mini shop and stole an alternator off them, (well didnt steal, handed over a wad of cash actually) chucked it in and she was good to go, all electrics now working pics and my new radio, soon to be gutted and fitted with a stereo amp (inside) and an external input, debating wether i really even need the radio part ... but you never know when a bit of radio rhema i needed (is radio rhema even still running? ) oh and this is my over drive switch lol more news as it happens
  16. picked up the velox from the exhaust place, had to get another muffler fitted, which is a bit of a bugger, but its done now, and he is quiet, so quiet its almost criminal, almost didnt get home, what with running constant loss, (buggered alternator) and being dark, i was having to flick between lights off and back on when i saw a car made it though, alternator on friday when i can get to the wreckers after work
  17. i ve read a post of yours on the net before regarding the 3.3 in the prince the 2.6 was much the same, quite torquey engines really, not fast by any stretch of the imagination, but solid, when i had the 2.6 in there, you could leave it in 4th, and even towing a trailer it would just sit at 60mph no matter what, im liking this overdrive malarky, flick a switch and it changes gear its almost .... modern
  18. car went for a shakedown run to the exhaust place tonight (work too late so have to drop it off and pick it up tomorrow night) car behaved itself very nicely, overdrive worked a treat, clutch is sweet as a nut, and super light, so light you can't even feel it just got alternator to sort, and she'll be back to te beginning... except with a bigger motor and overdrive, ready for some tasteful gauges, a new (old original radio) and a bigger carb (still running 2.6 carb at the moment) fuck im stoked the engine change mission is done, over it really D
  19. ok done the electrics, just to find the alternator is duff bugger, i'll whip it out tomorrow an see if it can be fixed, otherwise im on the hunt for a new alternator
  20. right a plyotha of 13 hour days at work have now finished so have been able to throw a couple of hours at the old girl, 1st weekend / day off in a month and its mostly been spent lying under the bloody car, i finally cracked the clutch actuation, what a bloody mission, but on the plus side, its super light, almost like a race clutch, any wa some pics and a bonus vid to prove that shes alive 4Rrphw8p3TI still have to sot the exhaust, and electrics
  21. ok another pictureless update, (thanks to the mrs who has gone on holiday an stolen my camera) finally sorted the clutch actvation, what a bloody mission, a combo of welding and meccano was needed, had a wee start up, started up really easily, a bit loud from the dodgy exhaust (have to get it welded back up) all that is left to do, is wire in a switch for the overdrive, fill the gearbox back up, and change over speedo cables and she'll be done, shame i'm on 12 hour days for the next 18 days solid (but for the money)
  22. sorry about posting in your build thread, it was before i knew the order of things here,
  23. i should do, i swear the fuckers were waiting for me, there were 2 cop cars and 5 cops, it was kind of scary, it felt like if they had guns they would have pulled them, 1 car once they had my story took off to check it with the ower of the car, while the other 3 checked all my details, tutted and shook there heads that i would even think about driving the car on the road, when the other car cam back and confirmed my story, they looked despondent, and said they wouldnt be crushing the car, but i'd have to have a fine for such irresponsible behaviour, must have been a very quiet day in hamilton, not to worry, shit happens, atleast i didnt get pepper sprayed, whacked over the head with a mag light, or bitten by the dogs, (which have all happened before) so i'll count myself lucky in that case
  24. ok a wee pictureless up date, 3.3 and od box is now in the velox, what a fucken mission!! engine went in easy enough, gear box not so much, it tryed to kill me by falling off the jack and then the box itself is alot bigger so had to make spacers for the cross member, longer bolts etc, drive shaft in, exhaust and intake in, although am having to use the 33mm carb instead of the 36 as the 36's accellerator pump is jamming and causing the butterfly to stay open, i'll have to search for a new one, no real loss as the 36 is in a pretty fuct condition any way, the dc-ac conversion done, my 1 stumbling block is the clutch, on the velox its a push on the thrust bearing, on the victor its a pull, so will have to make a pivot to convert, pain in the arse, i could have got away with this if i had pulled the velox bell housing off and put it on the 3.3 motor, but to do that, i would have had to remove the fly wheel ect, and didnt really think about that when i was swapping them out, too late now, basically as soon as i sort that, and fill with fluids she's ready to go.. i hope fucken english cars!!
