First time out. Started with four onboard but one was looking very pale when we were about to drop the anchor. So we went back in and dropped him and the young lad  who seemed ok off. We went back out and caught a couple of small lemon fish and a Kahawai but my last remaining crew member started getting crook so back in we went. Still had some fun and the boat went well. Once we got out past the ports breakwater there was a good swell with slop on top rolling in. The boat seemed to handle it well.

Yesterday we hit the water again. Supposedly the best day for a while weather wise. The swell was about half the height of the Sunday before, but it was still a bit sloppy. We went out further to north Pania and dropped the anchor. I had my daughter and her hubby on board, and she was not feeling that well when we got there. Though she said I am not that bad so I will think positively. She did alright and caught quite a lot of fish.

Anyway, the weather forecast had the morning only being calm and around 11.30am it started cutting up, so we headed in with the swell running one direction and the chop in the other. The boat handled it reasonably well, but we did get some damage on the transom. I thought I may have to get the engine removed but it is not that bad.

You can see from the pics where it has failed with one area already repaired. The other is not quite the length of the inside of the transom.  I used the trustee multi tool to clean out and open up the join a little. I will use the west system epoxy to reglue it and i will add another piece of wood or two to add some strength.

A few pics. We had a good morning fishing mainly catching Gurnard. We took 9 home and threw the smaller back, apart from the one in the bin which was well over size but the first taker we had caught. We caught quite a few Kahawai as well but only kept two. A good fish for the smoker or fish cakes.

The long failure is about 75mm deep but should be fine when glued with epoxy.

After a few days to let it dry out and made sure it was with the help of a heat gun I masked off the inside of the repair so the epoxy wouldn't run out. Mixed up the epoxy with enough of the filler so it would still have some flow but enough for strength. Managed to get it into the join by pushing it in with a thin piece of wood and once I had a reasonable amount in it evened out by being still able to flow and level out.

I glued in an additional piece to increase the bond area and add a bit more strength. Once the glue had firmed up I removed the masking tape to see that the glue had made it all the way through the repair, and the tape had sealed it and kept it in place nicely. So very happy with that.
