Bit late to the party but was just reading through this and saw what happened to your car.

I have an st170 which has done 250,000km and never misses a beat, truly a great engine and a great handling car. Unfortunately the car is at the age where everything that is rubber or plastic starts to go, currently doing a new RH engine mount which had to be shipped from the UK. Also thermostat housing has decided to crack so have a new one of those on the way having just replaced the o-ring in it a few months ago (was leaking). Other problems I’ve had in the last 4 years of owning it includes blower motor, window actuator, passenger door mechanism and my personal favorite of the gear linkage breaking on the motorway. Luckily It broke in between gears so I was able to roll along in neutral to about half way along the off ramp before having to push it and then towed home by my dad.

If anyone knows how to stop the rocket cover gasket leaking, please leave tips.

The rocket cover leak is common .

New gasket  , torqued to spec in spec sequence... mine didn't leak after that

Have had my ST170 only 108k miles now been off the road for months due to problems after a mechanic did the timing belt, Got told it was the vct pulley broken so got one, they installed it retimed engine still running like shit surging all the time with a bad idle, Have done fuel pump/filter, checked injectors/maf/IAC/PCV/TPS/Crank angle sensor, IMRC as well cant seem to find the problem These fords are a bloody pain have engine code P1132 and the mechanic can't even figure out what's wrong with it, Engine has good compression still so have no clue what's wrong with the old girl. Checked everything There is to P1132 code and P1130 as well but cant find the problem. Has anyone had a similar issue this car has been a bloody pain :)

Thats all the normal shit to check.

The timing could still be slightly out.. even spark plugs man... mine ran like shit .put a new set in ..ran better ... gapped them perfectly to spec....fixed it.

Great cars....just have some issues.

There's a bunch of vaccume lines on these ..pays to check them all.as they get brittle and crack.

The other main issue is the inlet runner control.... I looked at making someone replace this at one point.. but never did it.

... my plan was to sell the st170 motor and buy a stadrd 2.0 zetec and turbo it...

Yep found that about the vacuum lines quickly bloody touched one and it snapped

The IMRC can be bought brand new for around 1k landed to nz so not that bad, i have checked mine and its mint no problems with it.

When i bought mine last year in July it had pretty much been sitting since 2016 only done around 10000kms ish over the 10 year period, Old girl needs every bushing/linkage replaced its really squeaky over bumps lol pretty much has metal bushings atm

They can fetch good money... but no one has any at the moment.

Ive seen them sell for $4 grand.

I bought my car back for $500 .and got paid out insurance..so I bought it back so others could get the parts..

I advertised the motor for $1800 and it sold in less than a minute 😆
