RUNAMUCK
Was it behind a factory Auto engine? What can happen if a box is used behind a factory auto motor is cunts don't fit the spigot bush. This can let the input shaft orbit and let the seal lose contact with the input shaft. (As well as shorten the front bearing life) Long story short, yes, there is a seal underneath that front cover thing, or thereabouts. Should cost like $7 from a bearing shop with trade discount. Be sure to check that the seal journal on the input shaft isn't damaged. And don't forget to put a smear of grease on the journal to keep the seal lubricated. RUNAMUCK
I'd just glue that front plate back on with grey threebond. Fuck buying a gasket!
