toyworld
Sweet thought i might start sharing something for a change. Weather you got a valiant or old toyota its the same deal it should take no more then 3-4 minutes to install a rear window..... u need some soft rope, i didnt have any this time round i ended up using an internet cable put the rubber seal on the window and run the rope inside the seal lip all the way round finishing at the bottom centre. now sit the window in the car with the rope on the inside slowly pull the cable out and the lip gets pulled onto the inside of the car, go all the way round youll probly find it easy to finish the last bit off in one of the bottom corners. done
Escorto.
Works the same for old fords. did my escorts front windscreen like this. You have to put some sealant in there too or it'll leak like crazy.
toyworld
the problem is that proper window sealant is designed to stay kinda runny so it tends to leak out and make a mess around the seal/on paintwork. its beter not to use sealant if you can but if you got hard rubbers or gaps use sealant no doubt
andy
gotta be careful with the sealant if your hood lining runs into the window seal. I have always spent the extra to fit new window rubber where it is available. Saves alot of hassle later on.
bubblegoose
the sealant also helps stop water from sitting in the seal and making rust babies grab some low tack/stick 2" masking tape and run it around the bits you dont want sealer on makes the clean up much nicer any excess can be removed with prepsol/wax and grease remover
camo_78
i never used sealant on the cortinas front and rear windows and it stays dry as inside,ok the boot leaks via boot seal.my escort van on the other hand leaks like sieve round the front windscreen, even with sealant that was put in there before i bought the van.IMO it all depends on the condition of the seals more than anything else
