Unclejake
If you feed a set of points a "12 volt" signal for more than a few minutes they will die. It sounds like: a) You know what you are doing Your MSD coil is crook or designed for a transistorized ignition. The MSD coil model number doesn't have a T in it does it? QCADTA
the msd didnt overheat did it by not having a ballast resistor? hence why it went for a short time before it stopped? just a thought.
pusherman
only ran for meyby 30sec too 1min, hope ive not cooked the coil id say they would be a touch more hard wearing than to shit itself after 1 min. i bought new points and got my multi meter so il give it a smash hope it goes
QCADTA
probably more likely to have goosed the points since you can run this with out a ballast resistor. put one in as it says, change ya points and you should be away laughing with a bit of luck. governorsam
the ballast resistor on an escort is a weird setup, a long resistor wire hidden inside the loom. by pass it, go straight from the back of the key and use an external ceramic resistor. don't forget the ballast bypass on startup either, usually the spare small terminal on the solenoid cap. not needed to run, but makes starting easier. sounds like you burnt the points out too. new points, new condenser, new resistor, new wires, should go mint. cheers. pusherman
got new points and a new 1.6ohm ballast resistor cut the resistor coil in half to achieve .8ohm gapped the points to .025" and it lives, definately needs tune its popping out the exhaust for 1st min and hates choke. Supose having an exhaust would help, due to custom (home made) gear box cross member the exhaust dont quite fit. that will be this weekends job. thanks again for all your help
