ca18detesky
Hi all, I'm new to this web site and have seen a few projects with escorts with ca18det's fitted. I am from Australia and legalities will be different but I have a few questions regarding the escort cross member and what needs to be added/removed from them to get the motor in the correct position?. I have a S13 1990 model k that I can use whatever I want off it to complete the conversion so that side of things are covered. I have the wiring diagrams and was also wondering if anyone could shed some light on what is required to get the motor running in terms of power/earths/relays and so on. Diff wise I was keen on using a hilux diff but if anyone has a better option I'm all ears. Any information would be greatly appreciated as I would like to do as much as I can myself before I hand it over for engineering. Cheers Matthew
d.p.n.s
hows it mate when i done mine i just put the escort crossmember in and sat the motor and box in there so it was sitting where i wanted it. i also had the engine mounts and rubber bushs on the motor (and remember it sits on a lean to the passenger side all i did was when i got it in the right placve i just made sure the front bowl on the sump was leval) anyway with the mototr and box in i got a pen and marked out how far down i needed to cut the escort crossmember mounts and how far forwod i needed to make them. took it all out cut the crossmember down and i think i extended my posts about 70-80mm each side i just used 6mm plate and gusseted them. ca18detesky
Thanks mate that will be helpful to get the ball rolling. I'll have to widen the transmission tunnel a little as well but once things are sitting where they should be I can address that. Would you be able to shed some light on how you wired up your ecu to get the motor running?. I have had this car sitting around for years meaning to get around to it so now I have the bits I just need to do some research before I get stuck into it. Hemi
i pretty much followed this writeup when i did mine, although i missed two of the relays and that was the fuel pump one 9was already wired in and i couldnt find the relay to enable the protective ecu signal so gave up) and the iacv one (didnt have a clue what it did) http://club-s12.org/v3/index.php?topic=18247.0 pretty simple the wires that i used all come out of one plug so everything was in one area then just ran one to constant 12 and one to ign on. Oh and run the oxy sensor to ign on too for the heating side of things you will need a dropping resistor too but that should be supplied with the loom , or alternatily you could wire in resistors into the fuel loom . d.p.n.s
and as long as you have cut the gearbox mounts from inside the escort tunnel you dont need to do anything to the tunnel the gearbox will fit and all you will have to do is cut a new gearstick hole. dan
ca18detesky
That's what I was looking for thanks. Looks fairly simple really. I'm being talked into running the whole dash and loom but I really not too keen on making the job harder than it has to be at this point. Guess I can keep all the dash and looms and do it later if I get enthusiastic . Thanks Dan things are starting to look up for this project. Can't wait to get stuck into it but I have another project I have to finish first which will require some funds plus I'm heading overseas for a little which is not a cheap thing to do. I hope that I can get stuck into things when I get home .

QCADTA
wirings not bad at all. dash wiring is pretty simple, go aftermarket or do what i did and used a s14 dash cut to fit the old escort one and recalibrated the speedo to suit which is also very easy to do. if you want yoir engine to sit relatively flat i cut the top of the gearbox tunnel and raised it slightly to match the pinion angle of the diff to get rid of slight driveline vibration. Where in australia you from?

Where in australia you from? Hey Mate, I'm in Victoria near Melbourne. I like the way your speedo and tach look in the car but I was thinking if I was feeling really keen I could do the whole dash out of the s13. Anyone done this to an escort before?. The vibration that you had was that in part due to how low the car is or was it more engine and gearbox position?.
QCADTA
engine and gearbox need to be within 3 deg from memory in relation to the pinion angle of the diff to limit vibration, my cars not that low, i just raised the gearbox to fix the angle and this fixed the problem. google has all the answers. havent seen an s13 dash in one. would imagine it would be a big job for it to look descent.
