EURON8
My new motor ran fine for the first week. Then friday it start making a metal rattling against metal noise. friday night it sounded like it was loose exhaust flange bolts but they were all tight. The noise wold come and go also. Now the noise is always there while at low revs/load. When accelerating and heavy engine breaking it sounds normal. Now at idle its noisey as and the oil pressure light comes on sometimes flickers, sometimes solid. (engine still has full oil) Could be busted oil pump? All this doesnt effect the running of the motor, its a noise pollution. Now any ideas? Do these motors use the oil pressure to tension timing chain? Havent had the rocker cover off yet Hoping some one will know what else to check.
CaMpylobacter
I beleive they may do. our olld shithouse rn41 rattled like fuck in the timing chain department upon first start up in the mornings. went away rather smartly. try that
EURON8
Yeah according to Haynes manual it is used to tension chain. It is likely to be either pump or valve/timing gear. So rocker cover comes off tomorro for inspection.
forced
More often than not, low oil pressure at idle is caused by worn bearings. Yes they have a hydraulic tensioner for the cam chain. Steve
Spencer
^ yea I was going to say the same thing, most of the time its bearings over an oil pump failure on these motors. But need to have a listen in person
sleeektoy
check that the water pump bearings arent on their way out too(prone to failure) - fanbelt off to do that low oil pressure at idle is common these too.

Stupid question. Take fan belt off, spin fan by hand. Feel how it is? should be smooth. Right? Minds in a bit of a fuzz with doing nothing all day plus this stuffs bit of new issue for me.
