peteretep Posted May 11, 2008 Share Posted May 11, 2008 anyone know if the water pump off a 681 block is different to a 711 block, I just remembered about my one I have a 681 block and bought a generic ford 1600 water pump, but the pulley sits around 7mm further back than the other pulleys, i realise that they dont need to be properly in line but its more than I would like, so anyone know if they are different or should i just put some spacers between the pump and the pulley?? I assume you are measuring from the centre of the pulley V rather than the back of a cast pulley vs. the back of a pressed steel pulley etc.. 7mm is enough to make the belt squeal I think. It certainly doesn't sound right and will rob horsepower. What the differences are - i couldnt tell you. slipsittin Posted May 15, 2008 Share Posted May 15, 2008 I had this problem on a couple of engines I brought for parts years ago, but they were XFLOW/NON XFLOW parts mixed together. From memory you will find there are 3 or 4 genuine differences and back when they used to rebuild them with kits the shafts were cut off to suit the application before final assembly.
