Unclejake
My first thought is that you have`wired the ballast resistor incorrectly. How fast do they burn out - within a few minutes of driving? Bosh points are FTW IMHO
excort
they burn out almost instantly melts the wire going to the coil i dont have a balast resistor i was told i didnt need one ? im not 100% sure if im even getting a spark caurse i havent got the engine running yet its just been rebuilt it has a msd high voltage coil on there ive had it running sweet b4 tho ... Unclejake
^ you have fucked up the wiring I am afraid. Draw it out on a bit of paper and it will probably become clear. The only other option that comes to mind is that the insulator between the two parts of the points has failed/isn't there
Unclejake
almost instantly melts the wire going to the coil .. Which wire? The one between the coil and dizzy? That should (I think so check) go to the negative side of th coil
excort
its prettymuch exactly wat it says in the books positive to coil from ignition then negative from coil to dizzy ive had this problem b4 when i wired up another engine ones i think it mite of been a shit earth on the coil it only does it when the points are closed so i mite try it with another coil and see what hapens there . kyteler
Is it a coil for electronic ignition? because if it is, the 12v going to the dizzy on the LT lead instead of 6v will be melting shit and fucking your points.
excort
im pretty sure it can be used for electronic and points set ups ive had it running on my car before with points i have electronic ignition but it wasnt workin hence y im trying a points dizzy but im thinking the coil must be screwed trial and error ill work it out eventualy lol. kyteler
The way it can be used with points is likely with the addition of a ballast resistor.
drftnmaz
wrong resistance coil for points by the sounds of things, or faulty coil
forced
Check the resistance of the coil with an ohm meter. Stock coils normally about 3 or 4 ohms. MSD maybe a lot less.
