Took it for a few hundie k run, burnt out the rear gearbox seal and fucked the yolk. Scrounged around and found another seal to get home, and got another driveshaft incase it was bent. Got home, did the same thing and fucked another yolk. Now the gearbox is pulled right down and im doing the bearings to see if that makes a difference.

I hope to christ it does, as i was rather enjoying the old girl.

Its real slow and makes alot of noise, but otherwise good.

Oh shit son.

After that mission and ruining my driveshaft yolks, My brother and I re-built the standard gearbox (why change it) so now it has new seals, bushes and bearings throughout.

Ive been trying to get this thing back on the road before today, as my best mate is having his 21st down here at his parents, and bring a bunch of mates i havent seen in ages, so i had to take the State, show them im not just a useless kent "collector" as they all know me, and i need to sleep in it.

Finding another 20 spline 30mm diam yolk was a mission. Found an old engineer in Dunedin who knew exactly what i needed, but im a Jew and wanted the cheap option.

Dad remembered he had given a mk1 Cortina 'shaft to a guy in Invercargill, so went and got it back, mum delivered it, i poked it on the output, and it fit, i was like "fkn yeahhhhh!''

So that night (Thursday) I came home, shimmy'd under and went to bolt her up.. The shaft is too long, and the plate that bolts through the the pinion is twice the size.

Stink.

So I decided id pull the yolk off, throw it in the proper driveshaft and be on the road with days to spare.

They universal joint cups are different sizes. The big shaft ones press in, mine have Circlips. Its all completely useless.

Now with only one day to go, i ret to work, wait till 8 and ring the old engineer in Dunedin, he says "Yeah ive got some, but I need to machine the circlip groove in. You would be lucky to have it by Tuesday mate".

So i greased up his ring, spun a yarn and he said hed see what he could do, best be probably being Satruday delivery.

I get back after lunch, at 2.00 and the best looking piece of engineering ive ever seen, is sitting on my desk. Well i was fucked for the rest of the day, just buzzing that i was back in the race. Then i got a wicked Ed Juniors pinstriped t-shirt for buying airbags from them for a client, WIN.

Also in the background of this, i had a flat tyre after my big journey, so i pulled the tyre off, got a new tube and threw it in, but it kept leaking, I couldnt figure it out, so dropped it off at Kiwi undercar, they said it was just air escaping from between the tyre and the tube, random aye. Now its all good.

Long story short (even though the story is still long) I got homw, put my UJ in the yolk, Yolk on the shaft and slid it in, ooooh yeah. Bled the clutch, went cruising for the night, and its GRAVY!

Not as epic as Gaz' wedding cortina, but i Worry more

Im leaving for the 21st shortly.

Lopped another Quarter of a coil out of each side, its now only barely captive while hanging, but has brought the tyre in guard, so its win.

Also chucked in my JVC 50x4 MP3 headie and some JVC 4in Components I had 'in stock', all hidden, Now Led Zeppelin just eminates from the interior!

Just some recent-ish ones. Note the headlight visors aren't on, they flew off while i was doing some ungodly speed, around 110k. I made another set since, and they are back on. No other changes since the front came down a tad.

Been having issues with the shifter, it sometimes misses the gate and just flops around...greatly due to a missing nylon Bush im guessing. but its all go again.

Was being a hoe and not charging, been this way for a while.

So I found 3 spare Alternators in my back shed, but none were as nice feeling as the one that was in it,

So I bit the bullet, and had it overhauled. New Centre bearing, Diodes, brushes, Resistor etc.

$153 later and it seems to be churberries.

Has anyone reading this ever had their X-Flow shake the alternator bracket bolts out of the block and loosen everything off/broke adjuster stay?

This has happened to 3 of my old fords!

While hilarious, its a bit uncool.

Thank you for reading, Enjoy your evening.

I Pulled apart my Escort diff from under the Mk1, and pulled an axle from the Cortina last nite, pslines are the same and the ratios much better in the Escort, so when I get half a chance, ill swap diff heads and see if I can get some speed and reliability out of the thing.

Also out my Bikkies on for a change, looks hard as!

Im loathed to sell this rolling Nostalgic museum, but heres you chance to own a very unique, purpose built Brit-Rat Rod.

Its an English Import, So has factory bucket seats and 4-speed floor change manual 'box. Imported into Dunedin, spent some time in Wanaka, and the rest of the time in dry old Central as a Contractors A-Framer. I have the papers to confirm this.

Originally a 1200 pre-crossflow, some fine soul has put a Mk2 Cortina High Compression 1600 (with rare screw-type tappets, perfect for a wild cam)..

I towed it out of a dry central otago paddock 2 years ago and dry stored it for a further year. After that, It recieved:

A new Sill,

Mk2 Cortina Disc brakes on Modified struts to keep cut springs captive,

Nolathane bushes in all the key areas,

Capri Type 16 calipers with good Pads,

Underside completely undersealed with Rust-o-leum Road Warrior,

Skimmed Rotors,

Brand new Mk2 Control arms,

New Brake-line cross-pipe,

New wheel Cylinders (one fitted, one spare)

Added Escort Sport Extractors,

New Engine mount,

Regular services,

Wiring renewed in places,

Rust removed from a couple of doors and the floor,

New interior panels in customwood with period Newspaper coverings,

Beaded seatcover (R.I.P Granddad),

All gearbox seals and bearings replaced,

Brand new Drive shaft Yolk,

Just replaced the Diff-head with a Mk1 Escort unit, much nicer to drive and drinks less juice,

Lowered in the rear with 2in Blocks,

brand-new Tyres

Sagged leaves,

Steel Venetian Blinds,

Bullet-caps,

No seat belts in the back, pile your skinny lady friends in,

Old coins in front guard, many 2c throughout the car,

Chrome Half-covers and Alloy Peak Visors on Headlights,

Much more...

It was Certified for its modified Front Brakes, Suspension, Engine and Wheels.

Comes with a Set of factory Steel wheels (as on front) with full set of Chrome Hupcaps, The rest of the Set of 13x7 Widened Ag rims, FORD Weber manifold, Parts of tail-light lenses, Generator, Alternators, Fuse-box, Lights, many a treasure...

FOLDER FULL OF RECIPTS INCLUDED IN SALE, CHEAP REGISTRATION!

The only thing wrong with it is that if your not nice and direct pulling up, across and back to put into reverse gear, it can fall out of the gates,..I got used to it, but a wee nylon bush on the end of the shifter, available from Enford in CHCH will fix it.

This car gets so much attention its rediculous, i challenge you to go out and not get bailed up for a yarn. Some people will ask when your going to paint it, everyone else just goes 'FU*K YEAH!!, Where your time machine?' etc

It is VERY straight for its age and occupation, the Chrome trims are outstanding, although the chrome has worn off some doorhandles and the bumpers are a bit rat-spec. The interior is perfect for how its supposed to be, but the rooflining has 3 wee splits, seats are blown out, dash is cracked, door-cards are wobbly..like I said, perfect! Photos dont do it justice.

I drive it everywhere at any chance I get, it starts every time, everything works as it should, and will do for years to come. Been Dry Stored until 2 months ago, which was summer, so still dry..

Very regretful sale, but Ive got a Mk1 Escort that needs a cash injection..
