davidian
didnt come with instructions... youll have 1 earth, 1 neg coil, one switch/ignition and more than likely 1 to lights. advise wire colours
Spencer
oh snap! theres no coil, diesel tachos have a few different ways of working I assume you didn't just buy a generic tacho?
htwn-escort-boy
diesel man, they glow plugs, wire them same way az petrol? i didnt fink so. thort it was somthign to do with the injection?
Spencer
well I'm no expert but my last diesel was a Toyota 2C and we had a magnetic pickup running off the injector pump it wasn't just a simple 'put the wire on the coil boe' job.
htwn-escort-boy
hmm, we will have to figure something out, any1 else had experience?
Guest sexychevette
dont the deisels have it off the gbox or something like that....measures the actual turn of the engine rather than the spark. Shutup it could work edit: or maybe u could run it off the altenator somehow. Im no electrician but u never know. Must be some info on google

L0WMK2
does it have an ecu? that should have a tacho output?

Hemi
usually has a type of pickup on the pump like a angle sensor thing , could also work on the vibration of number one injector pipe , its not as simnple as petrol haha
htwn-escort-boy
mike-e stuck a tach on his hilux, hit him up? its petrol dipshit haha, im not actually sure aye, ive never actually got under and have a look, i know nuttin about diesel. only experience ive had with it is watching ppl doing skids on it,
Spencer
if it doesn't have a ecu or had a factory tacho, I'd say your not going to get it going without looking into things a bit more boe

htwn-escort-boy
i just presume it has an ecu? considering diesel is injected? umm nah no tacho orginaly,
Spencer
na probably no ecu champ I'm guessing its an older hiace there mechanical injection stz. Most places will charge abit to set a tach up on a diesel like this. Is the tach so you can avoid paying diesel miles?
htwn-escort-boy
nah so it looks choice,
Hemi
and nearly all diesel engines, which have no ignition system) engine speed is determined by the frequency from the alternator tachometer output (a special circuit inside the alternator to convert from rectified sine wave to square wave)which is directly proportional to engine speed. Tachometers driven by a rotating cable from a drive unit fitted to the engine (usually on the camshaft) also exist- usually on simple diesel-engined machinery with basic or no electrical systems. With modern engine management systems found in present day vehicles, the tachometer is driven directly from the engine management ECU. there you go
Spencer
^ I think if it didnt have a tach factory, he'll be lucky if the alternator just has one sitting there
mark105
never know my rolla had all the wiring right up to the dash for a tach but never had one, being that it is petrol and wiring is all thats needed its a bit different but u still never know, toyota is good at having everything there but the bit you look at.
