escortu
I need help! i have searched through peoples posts but i can't find an answer i have a mk 1 escort and i am upgrading i want to keep the escort strut and assembly but put bigger brake rotors on i have looked at cortina and capri ones but they have a bigger sized centre hole so do i need to get the whole strut assembly form one of them or make a spacer as the escort centre hole is 63mm and the cortina and capri ones are mostly 68mm. i will be running AP 4 pots too. Any ideas would be very helpful
Gaz
Capri vented fit straight on from what I know and you can buy a 22mm spacer to run the four pots. How big ya wanna go tho. The capri ones are same size as escort sport but just vented from memory.
escortu
Yea i was keen on vented capri ones but i went to supercheap and repco and their ones had the 5mm bigger centre hole, so maybe if i go to a brake specialist they will have the right size centre holes? because it will turn to shit if there is 5mm gap and its not sitting tight, the ones i have looked at the capri ones are the 245mm diameter by 22 so i will definately need spacers for the calipers, where did you get those from palmside? Gaz
Yeap Palmside do the spacer kits and the discs. 2.8 9 1/2 inch Capri Vented Discs In Stock To Fit: Ford Escort $140.00 Bolt Onto Capri Hubs spacer kits $115 for both calipers
Gaz
Do you want them for street use or for track? If track then these are prob the best "bolt on option". If for street, and money is an issue then I would keep with the non vented sport discs and run decent pads in the APs. That way you dont have to buy spacers or new discs. crazy_rich
are mk 1 & 2 escort hubs the same?
escortu
O ok sweet thanks yea it is for road use im not overly worried about the price its just that i was wanting to run the standard escort strut and hub but upgrade the brakes and size of the disc rotor as the certifying guy seemed to be stressing about this when we took the car down to him and told him what we are going to do! so if i scrounge some rotors from a mk 1 sport they will be sweet on the standard escort hub and nice with the four potters! ok i will search trademe for awhile otherwise try get new ones!!! thanks for your help! escortu
Yea i thought they were but the centre hole is bigger on mk 2 from what i have been told! might end up getting a 5mm spacer turned and put that in to fill the gap if worst comes to worst! eke_zetec_RWD
mk1 have like 220mm discs and mk2 are 247. mk1 center is 63mm is 68mm. you can swap the hubs over tho as use same bearings. the mk2 calipers wont fit the mk1 strut, bolt holes are da same just they have webbing between them and it hits the bolt on steering arm on the stub. ap calipers shud do the trick tho as i think they need spacing torward the center of the car. if you want i can make you a 260mm vented disc conversion kit to fit spaced ap calipers. peteretep
mk1 stuff is all imperial and mk2 is all metric
crazy_rich
best idea here is to chuck a whole mk 2 front end in like methods did. but at the end of the day, thats effort thats probably not worth it, have you thought about just running better pads? spacing rotors to keep them cocentric sounds like an idea that could end badly, it'd be best to balance the hubs if they dont locate properly, to get rid of any brake shudder, steering wobble or anything like that that could come up. peteretep
yeah I changed it all like methodz, personally I would do it again too as the mk2 stuff is heavier duty and much easier to replace
eke_zetec_RWD
i dnt think a ring wud be safe. the bolts would go through them both half n half kinda thing
escortu
hey thanks for all the feedback! i mite try get mk 2 hubs from a mate and see if they will fit! using the front end from a mk 2 would be the best but it seems the previous owner had new stuff put in recently e.g steering rack, wheel bearings and brand new pads! also i have shocks and springs for the escort strut! so i dont really wanna change it all. I'm not sure about it being imperial its a 1974 so quite late and a lot of stuff is metric! and also the certifier we went to had a bit of a speil about bigger brakes and i have the AP four pots, man all i need is bigger rotors for the AP's and i am sorted for the front, that is untill i get new bushes later! anyway cheers all

peteretep
does your car have a brake booster too? my car went from drums all round(no booster) to recond drums and mk2 disks with recond m16(standard) calipers and a mk2 booster, was an enormous upgrade, I now have wilwood 4 pots on the front on the standard disks and they are sweet as
escortu
yea shes got reconditioned drums on the rear and came standard with discs on the front so yup brake booster, well if the mark 2 hub will fit onto the escort stub then life is good me=hoping & praying
